There were many spectators today in shorts, flip flops, etc, so the typical LACC dress code wasn't enforced outside of the clubhouse itself.  The club is on a beautiful piece of property and the clubhouse has undergone a renovation.  It's a lovely spot for a Walker Cup match.

It was another beautiful day in California as our thoughts are with those in Florida and the surrounding states affected by Irma.  The course was set up super long and tough today.  I didn't hear of or see anybody breaking par out there.  There were two nearly 280 yd par threes, a 620 yd. five par (which a few of them got home on) and a 120 yd par three and it still measured at 7400 yards.  You probably got more accurate information than that on TV but that's what I know.  The golf course is in fantastic condition but it's not what you'd call a beautiful property but it sure is a fantastic golf course.  It's all about the course, not the surroundings, or even the many trees on the course.  They're all the kind that lots of clubs remove, like Monterey Pines, Eucalyptus, and lots of other scraggly looking species, but it all works when you've got a course that is so well laid out.

One of the reasons people form private clubs is so that they can associate with like minded people. Some clubs are just a bunch of normal people with more than average money.  Others are pretentious people who like to associate with pretentious people. That's their choice.

No shorts on the golf course.

That's just damn snooty in this day and age.

Whatever.

And no phones are allowed on club premises except for certain few areas. I wonder if spectators are allowed to use their phones during Walker Cup.

I love that little 15th hole at 78 yards.

Went yesterday (stationary marshall volunteer)...had a terrific time.  Membership is not a whole lot different from say, Big Canyon in Newport (could be way off base here - just my feeling) - very waspy, and old money Southern California.  Gentile.  Mostly very friendly, polite people, some snobs, some arrogant jocks - pretty much like any other high profile club I've ever visited.

One member said guest fees were 225 plus caddie...so figure three bills plus for a day.  Many aren't happy, but he thought they did it to keep guests off the course - not surprising given LACCs reputation!

Didn't take many photos...here is one of the second green...a beast of a par 4.

The course looks amazing to me, from the little bits I've read about the club doesn't sound like the most welcoming of places. Very ironic.

Didn't Larry David mock them in Curb?

That was Riv I'm pretty sure.

Nvmd there is definitely a scene making fun of LACC, there is one about Riv to though.

No...LACC..Riviera has plenty of entertainment and Jewish members...money is only obstacle to admission.  LACC is deeply republican and gentile...I don't think they had a Jewish or Minority member until this century!  Larry David, either real or fictional, would never ever be considered for membership at LACC!

Watching these talented kids I'm impressed with their long games.  Their long game is close to pro level, but their short games are not even close.  The gap there is quite large.

That's that.  It was a convincing win for the US after all was said and done.  The course was magnificent, the weather fantastic, and the play was as good as it gets.  In spite of the results, it was never dull since, in Amateur golf, it seems that there's more often a close connection of some sort between the gallery and one or more of the players.  Here are a few photos from Sunday.  I also got a really good DTL swing video of Cameron Champ that I'll post here and in the swing forum?.

It's too large to post but I was able to get an excellent DTL swing video of Cameron Champ on V1 if anyone would like a copy.  That kid has got the most effortless looking power I've ever seen.  It almost looks like he's taking practice swings at it.  He's sure got to mature a little as a player in order to fulfill his potential though.  He gets down on himself very quickly.  Once he gets that, and his short game dialed in a little, he'll do fine.

Great performance by the USA!

Pros, we'll be expecting 19 points from you in France next fall.

This was the first time I've ever seen much of LACC and I was very impressed. I can't wait to see the venom directed at it for being "not a big boy course" and a "tricked up Mickey Mouse course" when Jordan Spieth wins here in 2023.

As for the membership and their policies, I definitely approve. If I were allowed in the City of Los Angeles, I'd definitely want to play at LACC.

This was a bit of a whitewash and as someone said on Twitter, there's such a big advantage to the home team in these matches. Only twice has it been won away from home since 1993. Young GB&I players haven't dealt with the ultra-firm greens, young American players haven't dealt with links.

Some good Golf but the track was so tough it was more of a war of attrition. A lot of poor short game shots from both teams but the USA has some stars of the near future. They played much better and had a positive swagger. Lord help the players when the US Open goes to LACC.

I'll probably make the trip up to Hoylake in 2019, one or two Welsh boys I know of looking to make that team.

This years team didn't really perform to put it mildly, the two that did, Gregory and Singh Brar, probably don't hit it long enough to make any kind of dent in professional golf. Hope I'm wrong on that.

As regards the membership of LACC and their policies, like somebody has already mentioned, sounds like the Muirfield of California.

Don't write the GB&I team off on this performance. Jordan Smith played in the last Walker cup on US soil and didnt win a point and he's turned out to be one of the brightest young talents.

Gregory could be the next Fitzpatrick - not the longest but gutsy and with a deadly short game.

The other big success for GB&I was Robert MacIntyre. From what i saw he played well in all three matches. His only defeat was mainly down to Matt Jordan's poor putting (on greens that were faster than most had ever experienced).

As is often the case, this record win for the US team could have easily gone the other way if not for some really gutsy play by our team.  Most of the matches were very close throughout and only fell to the US late in the matches.  This team was a solid group of badass grinders.  You'll hear from every one of these guys when they reach the Tour.  Even at their young ages, the ball striking was stunning, and I mean that in the true sense of the word.  In ten years, there will be 150 DJ's out there.  When they can get their studies out of the way and commit full-time to their short games, you'll see very different players.  Anyway, men's frontal lobes don't fully develop until into their twenties and that's the part of the brain that deals with chips and putts.  They'll get there eventually.

Really enjoyed watching both days this weekend.  LACC should be a great venue for the Open in 2023.  It will be interesting to see which participants from this Walker Cup will be there.

watched most of this and was a bit surprised at the number of very long--275 yds+--par 3s albeit also the shortest one at 78 yds..plus some 500yd+ par 4s..

there used to be suggested limits on par 3s and par 4s iirc but it seems that has been thrown out the window..

still some of the players were hitting irons to 290 yd par 3s and the GB  & I even acknowledged they have to work on getting more distance if they are to do well on the US courses..

i hope longer courses are not going to be the trend in future Walker Cups although i have a feeling it will be..at least when it is on US soil.
