Seeing as this event is down the hill from me, and I'm volunteering, thought I'd start a thread.

Went to training yesterday...everytime I go to LACC, I'm blown away at the sheer amount of land it occupies...it must be the most valuable golf course (land cost) in the world.

Have to wear long pants (not spectators, though)...asked a member about it...they said they voted on it a few years back, and it was the women who objected to men wearing shorts...go figure!

Golf is September 9-10, being shown on FS1.

Hopefully, there will be a better turnout than at Riviera...at least they got the members involved.  Seems like 100s of the volunteers are members, vs just a handful at Riv.

Go USA!

Home advantage is a big deal. I too think USA will win.

Really looking forward to watching the matches.

Shame this post only has one reply. I'm really looking forward to watching the matches. The golf course intrigues me as I've seen a few pics and who doesn't love team match play?!

I'm looking forward to watching it! I've never seen it on tv.  Honestly, I'm probably most excited to see the course on tv...only seen pictures but it looks unreal.

For many golf observers this is a rare look at LACC, and I'm sure a lot of folks will be tuning in just to see this storied course.  I am very much looking forward to watching this event.

I for one am looking forward to the Walker Cup. When the Walker Cup was at Nairn in 1999, I was just a kid and I went along myself for both days and it was a brilliant experience. The likes of Donald, Casey and Kuchar all played that year and I have tried to watch it every year since.

Home advantage I think plays an even bigger role in the Walker Cup that it does in the Ryder Cup. The reason I say that is that most of the players are youngsters and don't have as much experience of playing abroad with different grass and ground conditions, etc. With that, I think that the US are definitely favourites for Cup this year.

The golf should be good and I'm looking forward to seeing the venue, especially after visiting the LACC website.

The guest information is very illuminating however I don't think I have to worry about getting the opportunity of violating any of their codes.

Always loved the Walker Cup since going to Royal Porthcawl in 1995 and seeing Tiger (Amongst others). Also local boy Rhys Davies beating Rickie and DJ at County Down in 2007.

Anybody have any idea if this is being televised in the U.K.? BBC usually have it when it is a home match but the fact it is away and on the West Coast, not holding my breath.

Walker Cup is always one of my favourite tournaments, usually a look into the future of golf. Nothing will beat 2 years ago when there were 5 Irish players on the team, we have to do with one so far but hopefully McBride puts in a good performance. Made the cut at a European Tour event recently, so has big talent.

I'll be there all weekend and will be posting photos as it goes along.  The opening ceremony is always a beautiful, patriotic event and since it's probably not going to be televised so I'll be posting photos from that.  I've got a dog in the hunt this year which makes it even more compelling.  Years ago, I was scheduled to play Riviera thanks to a reciprocal favor from my club.  When I was at the airport, our pro called me with bad news/good news...he said that something had come up at Riviera (member event of some kind) and that I wouldn't be playing there that day...ugh.  The good news was that he had gotten me a tee time at LACC-North.  At the time, I'd only heard about the course but, wow, what an experience.  I was looking forward to a relaxing spring round of golf and it was anything but.  This golf course is an absolute beast, one of the toughest I've ever seen firsthand and that wasn't even in anything resembling a USGA setup.  This one is sure to be a great test.  Look for the US to win convincingly.  I don't think that most of the GBI guys have ever seen anything like this before.  The practice rounds were yesterday for the US team.  I'm looking forward to hearing how it went.

Here are the bags that the players were given yesterday.  The small ones are the practice bags and the match bags are full-on Tour style bags.  Pretty classy deal.  The team has another practice day at LACC today.

I cant wait to see the Walker Cup at Cypress. It will be interesting how some the best amateurs in the world will do there. If the wind is up, i wonder how scoreable it will still be. I have played twice there twice and it one of the toughest yard for yard courses ive played

Have always enjoyed my rounds there at LA North. Never got to play the South. The locker room and clubhouse is a classy place. The Reagan locker. The guy shining your shoes. All old school. The only bummer is I was never able to buy anything from the proshop. They keep a tight reign on that place. I no longer live in LA but will be watching this on tv for sho!!

Still can't believe that we beat the US in 2011 Scott!

Nice home course by the way.

No knock on GB&I but SERIOUSLY how did this team lose?!?!

How did this team lose??

It was quite simple really~

The US got embarrassed, no strike that, they got pimp slapped all over the course in foursomes and of all the big guns on the US squad, only Jordan Spieth, ironically the youngest member on this Who's Who of Amateur golf team, held his own and contributed.

Those other lil stud muffins?

They choked their arses off and started playing at the end of their amateur careers as they would very shortly as Pros..

Like shat😎

They shoulda Played Nathan more-

He may not match up to you in talent but he'll give ya everything he's got, he has never choked and you will  Have to beat him as he very very very seldom beats himself, especially when the stakes are high.

This, as always is just my .03 worth

My Best,
RP

Can't wait for the event, can't wait to see LACC as well.

That stand bag up above looks sick, who makes it?

it was interesting cantlay just moaned and moaned... and struggled in the wind and cold....

friend caddied for Harris English and wow was he a nice guy, so was Uihlein. think the wind one day was about 40mph... I played Sunday off the white tees and 30mph was killer... its a very tight course....

funny I had to entertain the son of the captain of the US team - he was a super nice guy, took him out both nights and got him soooo drunk - think he got home at 4 both night but he was at the course first thing both days probably still drunk.... St Louis sounded real nice...

My dad was saying he was invited this year, once you host you get invited to all subsequent ones... he declined and two others have gone to the match as representatives from RA, one is an R&A member and he is getting taken to Pebble, Cypress and all the awesome course in California and as guests rather than paying.... Dad really wished he had said yes....
