He said this on Golf Central this morning. Said hitting down on the ball is better than hitting slightly up on a putt and great putters hit down. Hitting slightly up will cause the ball to bounce. What about the skidding that happens when you hit down? What great pros today putt with a descending blow? I guess it depends what part of the ball you hit - above, on, or below the equator.

And THE key for all the great ball strikers throughout golf history is that they lift(ed) their left heel.

Sigh...

Also thinks that Lucas Glover wouldn't have slipped with steel spikes and thinks that golf shoe manufacturers should make metal spikes that recess into the shoe when on the green

Sounds like he just replaced the word Driver with Putter regarding the garbage arguement he had a couple months ago.

The only golfer I know who successfully hit down with the putter and produce good result is Jamie Sadlowski.  He hits it 280.

I heard him say it and thought, "What did I just hear?"
Every single teacher or pro who has said that people should start off left hand low mentions either that is helps keep the shoulders square to the line or keeps the left wrist from breaking down.
I have never heard that it causes people to hit slightly down. Especially since most people play the ball nearer the front of their stance.

I'm confused by Brandel. Did he mean left hand low causes a slightly downward putting stroke which is preferrable or did he mean that everyone using a standard grip should putt with a descending blow?

He said that LHL encourages a slightly descending strike.

I putt LHL and have for over 10 years. With the ball positioned off me left breast pocket, I have never hit down on a putt.

...and look at his tweet.

It (forward lean) puts slight downward pressure even thought the stroke is level to up??? Time for GC to start drug screening.

Brandel is talking about George Low.  George Low would rank near the top of any list of all-time great putters. The reason many here may have never heard of him is because he played on tour in the 1940's.  Arnold Palmer respected him enough to take a putting lesson from him around 1960.  Jackie Burke, Jr. had a few pages in his book about how good a putter George Low was.  I have George Low's book and he stresses the stroke should be "on the downbeat", striking the ball just very slightly above the center line.  Weight on left heel.  He lets the force of gravity direct the putter on the down-stroke. He says the path of the putter is like a shallow saucer...not sharply down.  Of course, this is old school putting from the days when greens were slow and putters often had 6 degrees or more of loft.

Forward press.

People who gush all over about the Miura KM350 yet don't know who George Low is.   Wizard 600 people.

One of the best ever with knowing how to teach the flatstick.

And Stockton doesn't hit down on it at all. If anything his students hit up on it more than average.  Forward press/shaft lean doesn't mean hitting down.  Two totally different things

Forward press.

People who gush all over about the Miura KM350 yet don't know who George Low is.   Wizard 600 people.

One of the best ever with knowing how to teach the flatstick.

Dave Stockton.   Forward press.

Cmon people, really.

Once took a putting lesson w Stockton and sadly a big waste of money. I putt left hand low and he starts lesson by saying he can't teach someone who putts left hand low. The only thing I recall about that lesson was his advice to not take a practice swing. Just walk up and hit the ball. Also made no sense to me. I did get an autographed book from him tho:)
