I am just barely on the wrong side of 30 but I'm definitely starting to experience some of the things mentioned in this thread.  First when the younger women around the office call me Sir, this is of course once I realize they are talking to me.

In regards to the golf though, I have a buddy that we became "golf friends" about 8 years ago.  At the time he had an 8 year old son who loved tagging along with us.  My buddy lives right near a golf course so his son once old enough would ride his bike there every day to play and practice on the range.  Needless to say he is 16 now and pretty damn good.  I remember being able to out drive him from the Men's Tees using a hybrid when he was teeing off from the most forward tees with his driver just a few years ago.  Now he is hitting it from the same tees as us and now I am about even or a few yards back in the fairway.  Not to mention he is usually on the right side of 80 more often than I am.

I started feeling old when I started taking people to jail with a birth year of 1999, my rookie year.  Before that was when I dealt with 1992 birth dates, the year I graduated high school.

It all becomes better when I go home and see my wife, who is 11 years younger than me. It's like an instant fountain of youth.  #cradlerobber #whoneedsviagrawhenyouhaveahotwife :superman2:

Took the wife on a date to a movie.

Walk up to get both tickets - she is standing there with me. The kid says the total, which seemed sort of low, and I pony up.

It was only as we were walking away that I saw the little sh## had charged me for a Senior ticket. Per their sign seniors are 65 and older.

It saved me $8 on the movie. But my wife still picks on me about it. Telling me I robbed the cradle and such.

As I have said many times before, growing old sucks. But it beats the alternative.

Was channel surfing on the radio and stopped on a Nirvana song.  After the song ended the next song was the Beach Boys!
It was the "oldie" station!  Kurt Cobain on the oldie station!

I started doing the math in my head.  When I was a kid in the early 80's my father listened to the Beatles.  The Nirvana songs are older than the Beatles were at that time!

Mind blown.

A local station was my personal fav and played the oldies. "Hits of the 50's, 60's and 70's!"

Which then became 60's, 70's and 80's.

And then 70's, 80's and 90's.

Finally the 80's, 90's and today. (that's their current ad/quote)

SJ definitely hit on something there. When you hear a song from your HS years on an oldie station perhaps those gray hairs you see in the mirror aren't just the light in the room.

I played with a guy once who could barely walk, had a little puff of gray hair and had trouble getting in and out of the cart. He couldn't find his ball, had to squat down to put a tee in the ground and his backswing was about hip high.

I figured he was at least 15 years older than me.

I told him that I hope I can play as well as him when I'm his age and asked him how old he was.

He was 3 years younger than me.

Sigh.

This happened last night in my league...330 yard par 4 and I hit driver wedge and my much younger opponent hit driver and actually had to chip back to the green.

I'm in my mid 30s. Earlier this year, I was catching up with a friend and his teenage son, and the son was excited because he was about to go on a ski trip with a friend and his family. I asked him where they were going and he said Aspen. I responded "Mmmm, California! Beautiful!" My friend started cracking up but his son was like "No, dude, Aspen's in Colorado."

Playing with my buddy Danny. He's a little younger - and just a blast to be around.

So, about 1/2 through the front nine I ask him "So, do you do drugs Danny?"

He quickly responds - "NO! Of course not. No way dude."

I asked him if he had seen Caddyshack. He replied "No man, that's an old movie."

When a movie you saw in HS is an oldie or a classic - you ARE getting old!

For me - it is the vision/distance symmetry.

In my 20s & 30s, I could drive 275 - 280 on average. And I could see the ball land. Over time (I'm almost 60 now), my vision has deteriorated, as has my distance. I can now only drive it 200 - 220. Fortunately, I can see the ball land (I couldn't see a ball 275 away). Funny how that works.

Physically? When at 38, and have had multiple injuries/surgeries, but getting slower and slower figuring out a pain free way to pick my ball up out of cup as my knees can be heard over the gas powered cart next hole over. Just gets more and more painful, when younger these little issues "worked themselves out" nowadays, not so much. Guess that's getting old. Point recovery drastically slows down and is a sign I'm growing old.

At 57 I can still drive well but I find myself asking my playing partners if they saw my ball come down.

Couple years younger than you Thug. I normally see where it starts and if it appears to be curving. Then based on how it felt, try to get to the distance I think it probably traveled and start looking there. Hoping it didn't take any funny bounces!

I hate to be a pain and have to ask. It's why I like playing with a couple particular people, they see abnormally well and know right where it is.

And thanks DP (although I'm pretty sure it hit a sprinkler head!)

I guess my top four would be ...
  • Guys and gals in their 30's hold the door open and let me go in first now.
  • First tee stretching involves a lot of popping in the lumbar.
  • I get the senior rate at some courses.
  • Every time I have to climb lots of stairs. (The Knees and Achilles hate this)

Number 5 would be the mirror... but I know it's a damn liar so I don't pay any attention to it.

Yeah, this is true. But have to admit the "Milk of Amnesia" really does allow for a great nap. : )
