Gents

Was at my local barn today and they were marking down all the 2017 M1 drivers....asked why....they responded with a new M1 in October....

Anyone heard any truth to that?

Looks like the rumors of Taylormade actually keeping product on the shelf longer than 10 months is a lie.

Haha. I am not privy to those release dates, but let's say by the time something hits the shelves it's been an old friend long before. It's the 1st clause of my employment contract that deals with never ever mention a word of pre-releasing test product. Automatic termination and probably a lawsuit for damages to a billion dollar OEM. Life over. Haha. Mums the word from me. ;)

Here we go. :eyeroll:
Of course there is a replacement, probably not using the same name.  I would think we'd see them out on tour before the release so for an October release, we should see them out by the Tour Championship?

HAHAHA That is one of the reasons I don't like taylormade, they always release new clubs and change the name of the balls...

I'm guessing you're right. The M family is complete and this would be a new line in some way. Likely still multi-material construction, but with some new feature to differentiate it from the current M series. Seems like a release this soon would likely be a response to the retail success of the Epic?

And yes, I'd buy it too.

Billion dollar OEM? That's funny I doubt if you added all the domestic designed equipment companies together you wouldn't get near a billion in sales (let alone profits). Titleist down 21% in equipment sales last year, TaylorMade losing 135 million last year. I guess that leaves Ping and Callaway to make up the shortfall.. Oh maybe PXG can help out..

Taylormade did $892 million in 2016.

Callaway reports $871 million in 2016.

I think once you pass one-thousand-million that equates to a billion right?

I can guarantee this, it won't offer any faster ball speed than allowed by the USGA standards. Maybe since the bar technology in the driver with a horrible name managed to sell well, they'll go from bars behind the face to a reinforced wall. A reinforced wall behind the face that won't compress at impact. And the sound will be out of this world better compared to last years. More forgiving too, unless you leave the club face wide open or come over the top.

Jokes aside, I went and got fit for the 2017 M1 but didn't pull the trigger as I didn't like the yellow/green color that was on the club and headcover. Hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing club.

My buddy who works in a golf shop said the TM rep told him the new driver hits tour in October for a PGA Show release. It's going to have 3 sliding weight tracks and have a new crown like Ping's aerodynamic crown. Rumor is that they hired the guy who came runner up in the Wilson TV show to come in and bling it out as well.

I personally hope they make the footprint smaller. The one big deterrent from me getting the 2017 M2 was how big the clubhead felt.

Of course it won't offer faster ball speeds than allowable. And it will fall within the parameters of the CT test. And it will be no more than 460cc. And it will conform to every other restriction that has been imposed which makes people think driver tech is dead. BUT...they can continue to improve ball speed on off-center hits and do other things to make misses on the face perform more like shots out of the dead center.

This is why I don't understand all the hate when companies release new drivers. Sure, if you hit every ball out of the center, there hasn't be a difference in drivers for the past 5 years, maybe even back 10 years. But no one hits it out of the middle consistently!! No one. Not the guys on Tour, and especially not the amateurs who are buying the clubs. Everyone misses the middle to some degree on the aggregate, so improving that performance will make the driver perform better. Period.

And I'll be over here still using my 2016 M2 with like 98.9% of the same ball speeds as whatever driver they've concocted this time.

All this mega high MOI stuff is great but we are talking fractions of an inch from center that it helps with ball speeds. No driver is going to help that over the top banana slice you've got. It's all about improving looks and feel, which are totally subjective.

Sure, but along those same lines, you certainly didn't need an M2 compared to the previous and so on and so on.

Correct. My old driver was a Fly Z and my M2 carries maybe 5 yards more. In fact, my longest drives have been with my Fly Z. I just hated the sound... Blew my ear drums out with hard range balls.

Haha. This has to be a joke. It's like bringing in Jack Hamm to promote it. Or hiring Elton John to come up with its paint scheme.

I heard it is going to named RM, Combo of the R series and M material.  JK!

If it were named RM I'd hate it with a passion. If TM came up with cup face tech and called it CFRM I'd burn every single club produced.

Seriously, I'd rather quit golf than have a club named RM!

According to very high level technical people in Taylormade, the new DRIVER will be filled with SpeedFoam and when the ball is hit a puff of this SpeedFoam will exit the butt end of the shaft.  Supposedly this provides a 10% increase in distance.

Refills of Speedfoam will be available!

If they are dropping the price they should be hearing from TM legal. No price drop, and no new driver.
