Any other good storage ideas for the hoarding? I fear I've joined the crowd with the RZN Platinum practice deal.

I would think the only elements that could potentially damage the ball are directly sunlight, heat/cold, and air exposure.

Maybe get some of those vacuum bags to compress clothes, and then store them inside in a closet.
Don't laugh but that is what I do with some of my balata balls I use when playing vintage golf

Driver: Homna G1-X Homna stiff shaft
3 Wood TM V-Steel 15* TT light steel shaft (no joke)
Hybrid Adams Peanut 22* Stock Adams stiff hybrid shaft
Irons Mizuno Mp 68 3 thru PW S-300
SW Vokey SM-4 Oil Can 56* S-400
LW Hogan Sand Wedge 58* Apex shaft---- Yeah a real Hogan back when Hogan was Hogan
Putter- 1985 PGA Tommy Armour blade (yeah 8802 style)
Bag-- Original Ping Hoofer or Vintage Titleist Mini Staff
Vintage-- Too many variables to list and I get tired of updating this thing!

It's kinda like ammo.
God knows you can't have too much ammo.

But "new" ammo has an expiration date....old ammo, not so much
It keeps well if you use military style sealed ammo cans. Last week on vacation I went to a shooting range and burned off about 100 rounds in my .380 that were about 15 years old or older. No duds or hang ups. Of course I replaced what I used with new

Now I am up to about 28 dozen or so.  Some of which I picked the Nike balls in a bigger quantity than needed cause me and another guy was gonna split them.  Well, he decided to only take two dozen so now I have like 5-7 dozen too many.

It a very good ball but I normally just use yellow balls so I have a bunch of Chrome Soft's and B330RX's in yellow plus a few dozen yel/black Truvis and even a couple of dozen other white ones so way too many!
I don't think I've used 28 dozen golf balls in my entire golf life, I just don't lose that many. The problem with having a large hoard of golf balls is that when he want to try something new what do you do with the horde that you previously bought? Many people like to change golf balls like they do putters or drivers.
"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist."

Me neither!  I also don't think I ever owned 28 dozen golf balls at one time or even all together!  lol  I did play yesterday and today and managed to lose a couple of golf balls each day.  The ones lost yesterday were from my hoard but the ones from today were a couple of found balls that are real nice balls that I kept to try out.  If I get more than a 3-5 odd ones then I do a "purge" and only used the found ones in that round.  When I find some that I won't play which is most of the time, I usally just leave them in the cart or give them to someone on the course that I run into or catch up to them at a tee box!

I did manage to sell my buddy 4 dozen balls today and another guy 3 dozen so getting down there!  I have about 5 brands/models and will get down to 2 or 3 brands/models before I am done cleaning house!

Man golf ball hoarding is such a slippery slope. I used to only buy 3-4 dozen at a time when they're on sale. But after scouring the internet/forums for deals, the dozens start to add up. I'm at 14 dozen now (9 dozen pro v1x, 2 dozen tp5, 1 dozen tp5x, 2 dozen srixon zstar) and it only took about 4-5 months. I play 6 rounds a month and don't lose all that many, and I find maybe 1-2 playable balls per round which means I hardly dent my stock. And yet I keep adding to the collection. It's a sickness, I suppose.

I'm nowhere near the 20+ dozen crowd but I definitely have a stack of balls in the garage. I just like trying all of the new balls out there and I keep adding to the stack. I had to make a promise to myself that I can't buy any more until the stack is completely gone.

I finished my league a few weeks ago with just 1/2-dozen Chrome Soft X's left in the bag.  Did a little scouring on the interwebs for some deals (averaged out to $20.08 per dozen) and here is what was delivered to my door in the last 4 days:

2 dozen - Chrome Soft
3 dozen - Chrome Soft Truvis
2 dozen - Wilson Staff Duo Urethane
3 dozen - TM RBZ Urethane
6 dozen - Bridgestone B330-RX
4 dozen - Kirkland Signature (not delivered quite yet but got my shipping confirmation email this morning)

My wife has given me the stink-eye each day the UPS guy has rang the doorbell, but all I have to do is let her scroll through the pages of this thread to see that my 20 dozen is peanuts compared to you crazies!

I should go on a buying spree. I tend to buy about a dozen balls per month and buy a replacement about 9 balls in. I need to start bulk buying.

Ping G400 Max, 8-degrees, tour stiff
Mizuno JPX900 Forged irons
20-year old Mizuno 5 Wood
Balls: Snell (any model), Srixon Q Star XV

I am down to just about 12-14 dozen now.  I have about 6 dozen Chrome Soft yellow/black Truvis's, 2 dozen Chrome Soft X in yellow and like 5 dozen Nike RZN Tour Platinum's and probably a dozen of these mix in my bag.

This may be a question that doesn't make sense, but I once thought I heard balls can lose a minimal bit of their performance, any validity to that? Either way I keep 8-10 dozen on hand, partially by buying in slight bulk better price. But always wondered if true? Do they lose anything by sitting on a shelf for 2-3 years?

Back when they were made with rubber band windings, certainly yes. Modern construction, no way they deteriorate in 2-3 years stored indoors at normal temps.

Not sure I'd personally use a 10 year old one but even then, can't imagine a huge difference.
Everything has its drawbacks, as the man said when his mother-in-law died, and they came down upon him for the funeral expenses.

That is alot of golf balls and also alot of different brands/models.  How the heck do you pick what to play?  lol  I only have three models.

I want to try the TM Lethal's and maybe one of the Gamer's cause I heard good things about them!  I will admit that Topflite kinda scares me though!  :)

I know lots of variety. Honestly all the good urethane balls play similar for me so that’s easy, just grab one. The other balls I use during certain times of the year when I’m just playing casual rounds; like early spring or late fall when I don’t wanna take the chance of losing good balls.  Some balls I got in trades which I thought were better for me (ex. Traded 4 dozen k sigs for 8 dozen gamers).  When I have an important game to play, the Lethal is my ball of choice...it just works for me.

Do not fear the gamer soft. They are awesome. Also, with Black Friday coming, time to hoard, lol

Bad reputations are hard to shake.  I get grief for playing "rock flights" quite a bit.  Playing partners even look at me sideways when I switch over.  Give the Gamer and Gamer Soft a shot, both are very nice balls.
