I hit the 718 AP2's today at Golf Galaxy as well as the MP-18 MMC and SC. The top line on the AP2's was much thinner than the Mizzy's which was a huge plus behind the ball. Feel was great as was forgiveness. Distance and spin were good as well. Not the longest I have ever seen but what I would expect. My miss lately has been the thin shot and they were still launching pretty well on GC2 when caught thin only losing a degree or two on launch angle.

I have asked my club for a quote on a set 4-PW and will probably go with a set when they get back to me. They typically offer cost +10% on special order items which ends up being a pretty good deal.

How would you compare the SC and the AP2?

Thanks.

At address AP2 won for me due to the thinner top line. AP2 seemed a little more forgiving but nothing drastic. Feel was a wash. I think Titleist hit it out of the park with these.

Thanks JStang!  I'll have to try the AP2, but the coin may be flipped between the SC and AP2.  Can't lose either way.

Feel was a "wash"??!  You can honestly say that the Titleist AP2 felt as soft as a Mizuno Grain Flow HD Forged MP-18 SC....this I have never heard before. Titleist is a great iron, but they are known for being crisp but clicky...even their MBs.

I was able to try everything yesterday.  Well, I didn't hit the MB or CB because I want forgiveness. I liked the AP2 but I hit it exactly the same as my 745.  I was a little hungover yesterday  so I wasn't making my best swings but we got some good data.  I decided to do a full set of the AP3.  I thought they felt fine.  The are just a very inviting looking golf club.  You can definitely see quite a bit of the cavity in the 4 iron, but for some reason it didn't bother me.  Really good flight for me with these irons.  We settled on the AMT Tour White S300.  SS was around 91mph, launch was around 18 and spin was in the 5600 range.  Carry with 7 iron was 10 yards longer than with my 745 and AP2, 163 vs 173.  We were on a TrackMan 4 hitting ProVs.

Hit the 4 iron a few times and it felt great.  Avg carry was 217.  Another thing was I fell in love with the new hybrids and I'm not a hybrid guy.  Feel was stellar and the ball flight was great.  Had an average carry of 229 with the 19 H1 which is a great number for me.  H2 was about 10 yards shorter in carry with a lower flight.  I really prefer the looks of the H1.  Overall I had a great time, I would highly recommend doing the Titleist Thursdays to anyone.

Final Specs for me are:

818 H1 Atmos Black 9 Stiff (I was hitting the blue but would prefer the weight and slightly lower ball flight of the Black 9)
718 AP3 4-PW AMT Tour White S300
SM6 48F, 54F and 60S AMT Tour White S300

and heres my issue- the AP3's look great and could take me into old age...........but they are cast and I long for a totally forged head again........but at that price could I be changing again as I head towards the winter of my years? or do I just work out, stay fit and bash the ap2's till I need an aid to walk round...lol

I'm an old 37 year old.  I need to start an actual workout plan and focus on stretching.  I'm a 2 handicap right now and see no need to give up the added forgiveness playing a different set.  I've played forged irons since 1994.  I'm changing.  ;)

I placed my Ap3 order today. I hope to get them before the snow flakes.
The Ap2's are amazing. My fitter wanted me to go with a combo set, but at my age I need the extra distance.

So I'm not positive but I think they stopped adding bounce because the grinds change from iron gen to gen. So when changing the grind it changes the sole shape and you cant compare bounce if the 2 sole grinds are different because you are then measuring 2 things that are not similar so the measurements are not a true apples to apples comparison.

Now I'm definitely not even close to being positive that's why there's no bonce measurement but that's the idea I got from the 714 vs 716 (716 did not have bounce measurements either i believe, and for some reason I remember reading that either here or on Team Titleist forum it's not a true apples to apples measurement).

Good review, I'll have to see how the 716's fall in price next year before I consider swapping out my apex pro's

looks like the 716 isnt as good as the 718 so might be a false economy. I certainly liked the look of the 716 but it didnt feel good enough to get me back to Titleist, I'm hoping the 718's play and feel as good as they look (and by the reviews so far)

Did you like the 714's then?

So what are you playing now?  I also think the shafts have a role in feel and the stock AMT options seem to be getting good reviews in the mix.

A fitting would be interesting to see which stock shaft they match - or upgrade they suggest.

no didnt like the 714 either, however I'm not saying they were bad, just not good enough to get me away from Mizuno and back to Titleist where I started with blades.

Regarding the AMT shafts they were appalling on the 716...in my opinion, hopefully they are better or maybe KBS or Project X shafts will match the heads better.

In my head I've already decided to move into the AP2 or AP3, I just hope they live up to expectations when I eventually get a shot at a demo

Haha, I have a tendency to do this with equipment as well.

Regards the new Titleist line, let's hope they are that good.  I'm hoping I hit/like the AP2 better as I like the 714's (beat out MP53's at the time) and wonder if the AP3's might be a flash in the pan.

I also dumped the MP53's after a week and got MP69's which were beautiful to play but once a week golf demands some more forgiving irons.

I believe a tour pro said the AP3's are a career extender, according to the CEO of Titleist (yes I know he would say that but i reckon its probably true.

I placed my Ap3 order today. I hope to get them before the snow flakes.
The Ap2's are amazing. My fitter wanted me to go with a combo set, but at my age I need the extra distance.
interested to hear how a combo set would work with the different lofts, did he say?

Sorry we really didn't discuss the lofts, because I wasn't really willing to give up the yardage. I know he's done 10 fitting since the release of the 718's and 5 of them went combo sets. The TMB's fit nicely with the 2's, but I thought those were the worst of all the 718's!

I hit the AP2 and loved the feel and the improved cosmetic of the cavity over the 716. Being a lefty, my fitter did not have the AP3s. Those who are thinking of splitting the AP2/AP3, where are you splitting the set and how are you adjusting the lofts?

I heard the ap3 will have a price point around 1900, trying to compete with epic. Any truth to this.
I believe right in same range as AP2's pending any options....at least what I was told by rep

Because of the higher price point of T-MBs, and the two new Titleist Concept iron sets coming out next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see the AP3 and T-MB morph into one model in the future. There's a lot of product overlap coming.

if its anywhere near 1900 they will sell about 3 sets!!!

It should be on a par (see what I did) with the AP2's and AP1's

STD loft, lie and length

Nice!

Is the black Atmos a no up charge shaft like the blue?

All of the Fuji Atmos line is no upcharge.

The AP2, CB, MB and AP3 are the same price points. T-MB is higher and the AP1 is a little lower.  Just ordered the AP2, AP3 mix set up for $945 4-pw.
