I switched golf shoes to a more aggressive set four months ago, and now my right knee is all messed up. It only gives me a fit the day after I play golf. It hurts so bad I have to wear a brace. I think if I modify my golf shoes, or wear the old pair it might go away, but this is really scary stuff! I really want to be able to play and have several tournaments I want to play soon, but not if it hurts this much. I have already ordered some braces, and plan only on trying it again with a brace. Maybe alter my foot position?

Where on the knee is it hurting?  Have you been to see an orthopedic doctor?

What is a "more aggressive set of shoes"?  Mine are all passivists since they just sit there.

As someone who has regular knee pain (I am well padded according to my girlfriend) please take it easy. I am now on a stretching programme, have stopped wearing leather soled shoes and wear good quality training shoes at every opportunity outside of work (Asics and Adidas cushioned models). See a physio as soon as possible. As a matter of interest do you have a desk job? That can tighten your hip flexors and hamstrings and aggravate your lower back and leave less flex in the muscles and tendons around the knee.

i am struggling with finding a shoe i like. I am tall. Went with the minimalist shoes and definitely soft spikes which in my opinion are easier on the knees.  I agree..get help before you make it worse

Don't try and self diagnose.  Go see a PT.  If it's not serious he/she will likely have you up and swinging pretty quickly.  If it's serious, missing a few tournaments is a small price to pay to get it fixed.  Self diagnoser here...big mistake.

I was playing Contours, then went to Hyper flex 2.0. The knee doesn't hurt, it is above and below the knee that hurts. I have some how pulled and twisted everything associated with the knee. I have already pulled out of a tournament and am going to rest and heal. I also modified the Hyper flex 2.0 so it doesn't bite so damn hard. I have a history of knee problems, but it has been awhile, and a brace usually fixes it, but not this time. Now it only flares up after golf, really!

I'm not playing golf for the time being. Just not willing to take the chance for now. This sucker really hurts, and limping is not cool at all. Once I recover no more golf without braces. I am going back to the Contours.

See an ortho so you can get a good PT covered by insurance.  Knee issues like you describe are almost always a combination of lack of flexibility and a weak core. Steph Curries ankles were spraining at the drop of a hat one season and it was due to a weak core - knees are just one step up.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Interesting. I have stopped walking nine holes due to the heat. I wonder if not walking might  be the issue after all, thanks.

I am walking more to see if it helps, also going with shoes that have less traction. Still bummed missing the scramble this weekend. I need to get this mended if I plan on playing again. Right now I am about 55% healed, not to bad. The pain has moved down behind the knee and lower. If it gets better I may walk nine Friday as we have a three day weekend in Clarksville, Tn, as it is in the best spot for the eclipse Monday. We are expecting 200,000 visitors.

Sounds like radiculopathy, the shot can help in the short term but does not address the cause.

Going to rehab. The doctor didn't have a hard time convincing me to go. I need to do something as it hurts to work, much less drive to work. There is a tournament next month and I want to play it for sure.

I decided to play today and had a blast. I don't know why, but my knee actually feels better. I used the other shoes and could tell a huge difference in the shoe releasing, unlike the other one that did not. I am taking Naproxen and it really helps.

I guess I am having an amazing recovery. My knee has quit hurting and better than before all the pain started. I guess the last incident wear I ripped the muscle apart was actually a good thing, who knew. Now it feels like it will be good to go!!!

It's counter-intuitive, but walking (not running) more will help your knee.

Get to a doctor and, likely, start PT on this. I played for 15 years with no ACL before having ACL replacement surgery. I know about "blown knees". Yours isn't blown, but you probably have an issue with how it's moving. A pair of shoes would have to be very bad to cause that, also. Just a new opportunity to learn about your body and how you'll have to maintain it going forward. Best of luck with this...

I went ahead and walked nine today. It was an easy to walk course, so I had a lot of fun. The weather is amazing right now, heavenly. I really enjoyed being out there, and there was also a nice breeze as well. I played pretty good which was a real boost. I took breaks as needed and really took my time. Just a great day for golf!

I have decided to quit playing until I have a full recovery. Being in pain does not work for me anymore. The doc gave me a prescription for Meloxicam. That stuff makes me so dopey I have to take it before bed, but it really works great on the inflammation. In fact I am really starting to heal now.

I was able to go out and play nine. I did not walk yet, just took a cart. I was really pissed at myself because my game was really rough, but it started coming back after a few holes. I will have to wait for 18, I really do not want to push my luck.

Uhhh.....on Sept. 9, you said that you were going to (and I quote): "quit playing until I have a full recovery"

And, yet you teed it up today...less than 8 weeks after you decided to quit until you healed...
