Spent a long time shooting +3 or +4, one day something clicked, and now shooting over par feels like failing to break 80 once did. As a 0.8 right now the last year has been breaking par more often than not.

Aaaaand just shot my 7th even par round (72 on a 73.0/124).

Two 3-putt bogeys on the back and an inability to make important 5-footers kept me from breaking par today.

When I putt, the ball NEVER comes off precisely where I aim the putter face. This doesn't give me much anxiety when I'm 20 feet from the cup, but right about 6 feet out, it's a f*cking disaster.

The times I broke par this year, it was not about birdies but having chances at a bunch of birdies. The difference when you are playing really well from my own experience is really not worrying about the Drive for distance but Hitting the right club off the tee box to give me the right club for my approach into the green. My target was always a 10 foot circle.

I hover between 6-8. Shot under par 6x. Lowest I’ve ever shot was -6 (66). Shot a -5(65), so I guess that’s lower. Lol. Shot even a lot. I like to plot out the birdie holes at familiar courses. Try to stay +2 or better at the turn. Mentally that gives me a mindset of being able to still have a chance of going under. Hit the driver pretty well, so I usually attack the 5s. If a course has 4 par 5s, I feel like I will be at least -2 from them. My tough holes are usually 3s. If I can manage to stay around even to +2 on them, then I feel like I’ve played well. I can usually salvage a birdie on at least 1 par 4. But in the end, putt for the dough! Putting I believe, gives every golfer the confidence they need! That’s what I struggle the most with. Every time I shot low scores, I’ve had under 29 putts. Haven’t shot under par in the past 2yrs. But I remember each round felt like the hole was a 5 gallon bucket. I play with a few guys that haven’t went under, but who could anytime. They’ve been close, but they get to thinking about it right around hole 15/16. Once you break par, I truly believe it’s easier to do again.

-2 under twice and shot par maybe half dozen times.....shot 74 in tourney this last summer....I have never had a low rd where I putted really bad ( and i am pretty sad at putting)

Typically mid 70 low 80 being bad rd

Have no idea what my hdcp is but am sure it has to be single....

Shot 75 few days ago....

Havnt been playing as much as I used too and i am horrible putter most of time....which is why i dont get great ball striker/poor putting 15 hdcps, lol

People will always believe they should be in certain bracket.....if you cant break that than its hard to go low......you have to have that belief and not have it turn into fear when coming down stretch and your score is low......

People will always tend to go where they think they belong....its not a skill thing its a head thing

One last thing.....YOU HAVE TO MAKE FRIGGEN BIRDIES!, lol....bogeys will come thats a given but birds offset them......focus on making birds!

I just shot my first under par round as a 9 handicap. I played from tee boxes more forward than I usually do, but it was horrible winter conditions on a goat track. 5 birdies and 4 bogeys on the day including a birdie on the 18th for a 1 under 71.

This is my dream someday. Only I'm hoping to get 9 strokes from a scratch at the time. :-D

For the guys that have yet to break par.....there is hope!  My best buddy since high school has been an 8 handicap for as long as I can remember.  He has beaten me exactly ONCE.  In college during the last round of a summer amateur tournament in Illinois.  If I remember correctly I finished around even par for the two days.  I stroll over to the 18th green the last day just in time to watch him roll in a 15 footer for 67!  We still talk about it every summer when we get together.  He has never broken par since.  Unbelievable round.

Currently a 1.3, I've shot under par 3 times. My course is a 73.8 rating from the tees I play so I don't really shoot under par to maintain my handicap.

seems quite a few have beaten par- can I ask how many of those did it with a comp card in their hand?

In about 25 years of single-figure hcp golf I've only managed to go under par twice, and that was in the last 18 months.  Been even par three times I think.  But to your question: it's been in comp every time.  I don't get much time to play golf so I'll always play comp...plus in Australia it's the only way one can affect one's handicap so if I'm playing I don't want to waste the round regardless of the score.

I've been under par quite a few times, mostly in high school during 9 hole matches.(pretty easy courses) I never had an under par round in collegiate play unfortunately. My best was a local tournament shot 68,70 -6. Never put two days like together since. It was the best feeling, everything I hit was on a rope. Now, all I do is sit in the office dreaming about playing. lol

I've also realized, it doesn't matter what you shoot, you always look back and say I could of shot better, and that's what keeps us playing.

I didn't break par this year.  Did fire a 72 in a major inter-club event with a missed 3 footer for birdie and a missed 5 footer for eagle.  Good day.    We had a D2 golfer in the field who has 10 wins and is a +2 and he nipped me by 1.  Very hard track

Anyways, my best is a 4 under 68 (in an event) at my home club, which is a total ditch pig 74/144.  I had shot 69 fifteen times or so in my golf life prior top that, and loads of 70 and 71's.  Was a scratch 25 years ago and mostly a 4 nowadays mid season

I think my most recent was 69 at The Witch in Myrtle Beach 18 months ago in March Break

The key for me is driver.  If I am long and straight I have a lot of wedges in on par 4's and eat up par 5's

I still want it all to come together one day and go REAL low

I have not done that in six years, but I came into the 18th hole that time two under par needing a birdie to shoot my age and dumped my second shot into a sand trap. the last place I would want to be and made a double bogey and shot 72 on a 6400 yard course.

Once, shot 1 under on a short course as a 7.  I didn't drive it well, except when it mattered.  Approches were spot on, and putted well(4 birdies).  I could've broke 70 if I didn't  bogey the last 2.

I play anywhere from a 1 to 3 the majority of the time and shoot even par a good number of times per year. I only break par a handful of times a year usually, lack of birdies as well, but usually keep in low 70s.

I usually play very boring golf, middle of a lot of greens and a lot of two putts for par. Not a ton of birdies, but usually not a ton of mistakes. Always the exceptions though, heck on Wednesday I made 5 birdies and still shot even, just an up and down day.

As much as birdies are your friend to go low, so is making those pars a few times a round when you're looking at a sure bogey. Keep grinding and you'll get there.
This sounds like my game to a "t"(pardon the pun)
My game is super boring with hitting a shi* ton of fairways and greens, but not capitalizing on the birdie putts.
I ended the year with a 2.2 handicap and shot 1 under for one round this year.
I am normally posting scores between 74 and 77.
Getting up and down for me in imperative to saving a round.

I broke par many times on a few courses around the Virginia Beach area.  (Eagle Haven, Kempsville, Red Wing, & Honey Bee)

Mostly all of the rounds were being played from the men's white tees, but I did it from the blue tees at Eagle Haven & Honey Bee a couple times.

I had a few choke jobs before it finally happened, but I think it was more to do with my usually hooligan(ish) buddies going deathly quiet on me.

I find I will shoot under par a 3 maybe 4  times every year, but I also find I will still throw away 2 or 3 really good chances to shoot under par before I finally break through and do it each season.

I will generally shoot a few rounds in the 60s every year and then have a few sometime shortly after those that make me go "what?!".

I generally have a few rounds that I will shoot par + or - 1 or 2 once things in the Midwest get to be well conditioned again after the winter freeze and then again in the fall when the heat and humidity starts to break.

I'm barely a single at 8.7. Best I've shot was a 74 at a fairly easy course (71 course rating). Just too many silly mistakes even when I'm feeling hot w/ multiple birdies.
