Don't know why, but last night I just started to recall all the sets of irons i played over the years and I was very surprised at the numbers. just a very rough estimation on just name brands alone, it was at 80+ and then I could throw in at least another 15 to 20 of self built clones. Just wondering, how many other wrx's are in the same boat? Now not collectors, but actually played and sold and played and sold again and so on.......... At least now, upon reflection, I understand why the wife thinks I have a problem, although she's glad it's not something worse......... :pimp:

Unless you have been playing for about 150+ years I think your wife is right. However, if you can easily afford it and it brings you joy who cares?

Going through my sets and how many years I have played it is about every 8 years that I change iron sets.

In 30 some years I have had 5 sets of irons.

guesstimate times:

3 years-Ping Eye2's
5 years-  Hogan Apex II's I traded the pings for to gramps when he could no longer hit them well, and i wanted a more precise stick.
10 years- Hogan Apex
12 years Macgregor VIP 1025m's
1 year- Mizuno MP-5's will continue with them for probably the next 12 years.......Then I will be almost dead and will probably go back to something like the Ping Eye2's like gramps did.......

Too many. I've been playing 12 years and bought and sold with the best of them. The current clubs in my bag have been there for 8 months...the longest I have ever had the same clubs in my bag. I don't have any intention of changing anything anytime soon, except for replacement wedges as the grooves wear down...and they would be the exact same wedges.

In high school and college I didn't change iron sets all that much and also didn't play regularly. Beginning in 2008, I started to play more and in 2011 I entered the early stages of changing fairly regularly. Most recently I've learned the joys of the mixed set.
1996-1998: Palmer PHD Oversize (3-PW)
1998-2008: Ping Zing (2-S)
2008-2011: Cobra Oversize (3-PW)
2011-2013: Taylormade MC Forged (4-PW)
2013-2015: Mizuno MP-64 (4-PW)
2016: Mizuno MP-64 (4-7) MP-64 (8-PW)
2017: Mizuno MP-54 (4 iron) MP-5 (5-7) MP-4 8-PW

Man, it was a lot less expensive when I sucked. Less fun though.

I had to go looking to remember the years, unlike some of you people...

Mid-90s  Acer XDS (Starters from an uncle)
2003  Nike Forged Pro Combos (Awesome clubs.Should have just reshafted instead of buying...)
2006  Cobra FP (Lasted maybe 4 rounds. Great in fitting, awful on course.)
2006  Titleist 735CM (Again, why did I get rid of these? Other than just wanting something new and shiny...)
2009  Mizuno MP 52/62 (Should have ditched sooner, but wasn't playing enough to justify it.)
2016  Ping iE1

I don't see this progression changing too much. We'll see what happens over the next 5 years...
WITB 2017
Ping G 9 degree, Tour 65 X
Callaway Diablo Octane Tour 15, Stock
Bridgestone J33 19 degree, Aldila VS Proto S
Ping iE1, 4-PW, C-Taper S 120
Ping Glide, 50SS, 55SS, 60ES, C-Taper S 120

X-20
Burner 2.0

jpx 825 pro
775.cb
X2 hot pro
Jpx 800 pro
Ap1
Amp forged
TM MC/cb

A couple SGI sets I bought cheap, hated, and sold.

It's a constant struggle for me between distance control and forgiveness.  Can't find both.

Might settle on AP1 with the correct shaft.

My memory is not nearly good enough to answer a question like that.
I have a excellent short game. It's unfortunate that it starts on the Tee.

I wasn't going to respond, but what the hell.  Could be embarrassing.  I'm sure I'll forget something...

The first nine are more or less in order, but after that, not so much...

6 sets in 30 years, these do not include the handy me downs that I played with when I was growing up.  The only set I remember was a set of Lynx that my grandfather gave me, don't know the name of them, but there where from the late 70's or early 80's.

I still do have the original metal wood that Taylor made came out with, my grandparents gave that to me brand new, man I thought I was pretty good with that club.
