One day at Aldila Corporate headquarters...

"We need to move the needle with a new shaft."
"Hey, we should think outside the box."
"Something that is both within our corporate values and offers vertical integration to various other platforms."
"Guys, enough of this jargon that doesn't mean anything. We need a name..."
"Synergy?"

i talked to TollBros about these -- if you guys want to, take a look at the Big Bad thread he had posted with the various testers -- they hit the Synergy and it wasn't a standout, specifically b/c it's not a low/low type of shaft.

This one is next iteration of Synergy from what I'm told. It's a structure in evolution so I'm pretty sure this one is quite different than the other one. All I know is it was pretty good, so hopefully this one is even better.

So what's the 411 on these?  Profile?

1. Scheduled for global release by 2018. Ending with Asia beginning in USA
2. Hope to have tour proto ready for limited release later this year -- but not till we get it right!
3. Multiple launch profiles under consideration thus the images of 4 shafts from this week: 2 Profiles, New Proto vs. V1 from earlier this year.
4. More details to come

The proto they were allowed to test was the original version and i would agree, as would Pro testing done by our tour staff on tour.  The two new versions brought out this week to the PGA are a 2nd generation and we brought two slightly different launch profiles for consideration this time around.

Tough weather this week for testing but initial feedback to the next generation was strong -- looks like three pieces will go in play this week -- all new generation.  stay tuned and we can update after counts come out. Time will tell -- but we've done this before!

Hahah, TrueTemper is lurking in the thread...

Wonder if Synergy has anything to do with big brother MRI? Leveraging some corporate best practices?

Whatever happened to the Phene'd? Been on the hunt for a 70X. Too boardy for tour pros?

Personally, I am glad to hear the rumors are true.

Confirmed: Aldila keeps iced champagne in the board room for shaft naming occasions.

And for the love, give Jenkins a raise. Last time everyone got a raise and he didn't, the whole "NV" and "NVS" names happened.

... I wil never understand forum members fascination with names. I have never paid any attention to the name of any equipment. I hit it and of it performs I use it. If it doesn't I don't. The name of it has never entered into it. If it was brown and called Shi! Stick and it out performed my current shaft I would happily play it. Is there really any difference at all between D3, Epic, Launcher, LTD, M2 or Rocketballz when you are standing over a tee shot? Why folks seem to care is really beyond me.

Please understand I was making a lighthearted attempt of a joke at a name of a product. I have a PR degree and part of my job is marketing so I do tend to focus on the branding/naming/story behind the things or releases of things.

Do names influence our purchasing decisions? Absolutely. It provides us the first impressions about a product before putting through our own tests. If you were fit for a Costco Bogey Machine Y-Flex shaft, would you buy it? I mean, based on your numbers via 2 Trackmans (Trackmen?) at their outdoor grass range alternating balls between it and your current driver shaft, you were hitting it 20 yards further.

Personally, I would buy it. I might send it to Continental to have a black placed over the 7-tone paint job. Whoops left out the paint... Yeah, 7 colors, blue, black, gray, yellow, light red, purple, and dark red (order of tip to butt). But I digress.

There is always some sort of story behind the name of a shaft. Or anything for that matter. I love these inside stories, and thought I would take a stab at what happened. Again, just a light-hearted attempt at humor. Hopefully, you and Adila will let it slide this time... (crosses-fingers)

Interested in this! Looking forward to hear more. I've enjoyed Aldila shafts for a long time, and my Mamba Copper couldn't be a better fit for me. Looking forward to trying more!

The whole Mamba lineup is outstanding. Black and Green just as much.

Been playing the green mamba for 2 months now, awesome shaft!

... Obviously your post was done in good humor and nothing for me or Aldila to let slide. I was referring to the many WRXers that will not play a club simply because of the name and of course what the cavity or sole looks like. Rocketballz were revolutionary fairway woods that really look a huge leap forward in performance and almost every OEM has a slot in their fairway woods today. But many said they would never play a club named Rocketballz. LOL, are forum golfers really that shallow or is it just internet false bravado?

... I would think most all serious golfers would play a shaft from Kmart in purple/pink with a picture of Barney on it called Sissy Stick if it gave them 20+ yards of accuracy. I know about marketing as an actor that has done over 100 different commercials in my career and it takes a pretty weak mind to be influenced by a name. The whole package of hype and a very clever marketing campaign can intrigue any of us but anyone with 1/2 a brain doesn't pay any attention to a name.
