Hey Gang,

After waiting out Miura's newest release of Driving Irons, and learning there is nothing 25 or Higher, I've been forced to look in another direction.

So here are the options...

A-Grind CMB Hybrid Iron
Honma TW-Utility Forged
Fourteen Type 7 Utility Iron
Fourteen 660

I don't have the ability to hit any of them before buying. Kinda sucks, but ah well.

The A-Grind surprisingly has a 5 and 6 at 25.5 and 28, respectively. Not ideal, but I could make two of them work by bending lofts and adjusting playing length accordingly. BUT they aren't forged.

Honma has a 27 option in the TW-U Forged. Stinks only 1 option, but kinda good as it limits me to one purchase, HA.  Fills the #5 hole perfectly. Definitely nice it's forged.

The Fourteen Type 7 has a unique retro Fourteen look to it, but does it hang with the 660 and 858? 26 option and not forged. Bummer.

The Fourteen 660 is a unicorn. I've only seen one. Not sure I could even find another, especially in the v2 setup, but wanted to include a fourth option for comparison and there aren't too many options at 25+. I don't remember here, were the Fourteen 660 and 858 forged or cast?

Looking forward to some feedback .... As it turns out (because I couldn't sell it), I have an Oban Kiyoshi Purple 100 just sitting in a spare bag calling for a Driving Iron build!!!

Having sampled both the 660 as well as the Honma (last year version) and owning the A-Grind, I would lean on the Honma first then the A-Grind. That A-Grind has some girth on that top line and every now and again I get a flier. The Honma is just an all around good Di. It's the best looking of the class in all aspects and it has a solid feel to it.

Epon AF901 25*. Awesome driving iron........or what about trying the Mizuno H4 or H5 in the lofts you want?

I'm heavily leaning towards the Honma TW-U.

Not 100% familiar with Epon's lines. Assuming the 901 was a past model?

If the 903 was offered in 25, 26, 27 or 28 it would definitely be in the conversation.

Which A-Grind Driving Iron do you have? ... The current CMB Hybrid Iron?

Or the past generation? I forget the exact name, and they very recently updated the website.

Honma TW-U Forged is a great club. Relatively thin top line, compact head, better feel in my opinion than the previous TW-U (which I have in the #3 and #4). That would be my choice, and I've tried the others you listed except the Type 7 Utility iron.

I'd say the 901 is better looking - especially at address, as there is less offset, and i'm not too keen on the lower profile of the 903. ( biased, as I love my 19deg 901, and am able to look at it vs the 903 here at Golfcraft in Bangkok...)

To the OP - NOTE - for 25 deg you do NOT necessarily need to only look for 'driving iron' models only - a more perimeter weighted model/version of your favoured 6 iron for instance is another option - the new Mizuno MP-18 range being an outstanding example.

I have the Honma TW-U Forged 2i and 4i.  Very nice looking and solid feel.  Nice launch as well.

Then I go to a 5 Hybrid (26) which plays closer to 24.8 when factoring in Face Angle.

I'm looking for that 26/27/28 driving iron head to challenge the 5 Hybrid.

Don't get me wrong, I've considered an X-16 Pro Series 5 Iron too! LOL!

if you want forgiveness  goes with epon 901. its best driving iron to date. If you want something fancy and new go with the latest PXG 0311X. Very penetrating ball flight but not as forgiving as the 901.

I'd agree about the 901, but a quick search shows a 25 degree 901 at about $250... used. (Can't remember how much my 19deg 901 head was new...but i'm still happily using it 8+ years later, so it is good value :stink: )
