Hi All,

I was hoping I might be able to get some advice on the Mizuno MP H5 2 iron shaft. The standard shaft is the KBS Tour C-Taper Lite 110 and while it was a pleasure to hit, it's wasn't going any further than my current 3 iron (188m or 205 yds), despite my best efforts.  My current 3 iron is an old Titleist DCI with a TriSpec steel Stiff shaft, and from what I've been able to find from Titleist is 118 grams and 1.8° torque with a mid flex point.

So, if that is the case, in order to get more distance from the Mizuno, I'm thinking I would need to either upgrade the shaft or look at something different?  If looking at different shafts based on my old TriSpec Shaft what would you recommend?

I really enjoy driving irons as opposed to hybrids, however, if the consensus is I'm not going to get more distance from the Mizuno with a different shaft, then I may just have to re-evaluate my dislike for hybrids.

Thanks in advance

I'm currently experimenting with this part of my bag as well.  Here are a few thoughts.

Less loft doesn't always mean more distance.  You could possibly actually hit the H5 3 iron farther than the H5 2 iron.  I'm am also a little skeptical about the blob on a stick utility style irons.  I have personally had more luck with more traditional style 3 irons from hot faced cavity back GI sets.  This maybe particularly true for you if you are hitting old DCI 3 iron well.

As far as shaft go, I'm still struggling to find something.  I previously had good luck with DG Pro for high launching long irons if you are looking for something in steel in a fairly traditional weight range.  My next experiment will probably be to stick in a Recoil 110 which seems to be one of the better graphite options that keeps it in a heavier weight range.  My ball striking suffers dramatically when going below 100 grams.

I'm ditching my H5 1 iron.

My Srixon u45 18 can goes as far. I've experimented delofting the u45 down to a 17* which made the H5 obsolete. Plus the Callaway steelhead xr is a real performer. There is no need to 1 iron for all intents and purposes other than driving range fun.

Annoyances with the H5 is one, it's not forged so lie and loft adjustments are realistically unsafe. Secondly, The shaft length was the same in the H5 and U45; I like 1/2" increments in my irons and 1 degree upright.

Mizuno tends to be flat start at a 63* lie angle at the wedges can 64* (my preference).

Lastly, the H5 1 iron is lofted at 16 which to me is a strong 2. So if you do look at the new Fli hi, they have their 2 irons se at 16.5*; it's all over the map for mating your gaps.

If you are pressed to keep the H5, I would recommended a lighter shaft in either steel or graphite.

The KBS Taper C-Lite is a horrible shaft. I'm surprised they are continuing that shaft with the new Fli Hi.
