Where in the blue hell are people seeing 35 yard gaps between the 7 and the 8 iron? I'm not believing that until I see TrackMan numbers.  I have about 40 rounds on my 790s since last fall and have certainly never seen anything remotely close to this. I have my normal gapping of 12-13 yards between clubs. I just do not believe there could be 35 yards between sequential clubs.

Well I don't own a trackman but I'm pretty sure I know how to measure distance. I experienced it. The 7 with the slot vs the 8 without was considerably longer. I'm also a better than average iron player. It's real. Maybe not for you - so that's a good thing! But, just because you haven't experienced it doesn't make it less real.

Every time you hit balls or play a round you play a 30 yard gap between 7i and 8i with your stock swing and similar contact? I just have a hard time believing a sole slot and 4.5° gap between clubs cause this phenomenon.

Well, It happened for me. Maybe my set was out of spec? Who knows. I do know others had the same experience. If you don't - that's great. Enjoy your clubs. I didn't LOVE them enough to try to make it work. Oh well. Just relaying my experience. Like they say at the Ripley's Wax Museum - "Believe it or Not"!

I just have a hard time believing 4.5° could possibly produce 30 yards of difference. I've done plenty of club fittings in my life, and have a very hard time seeing that being the case on average. Obviously striping a 7 iron, and duffing an 8. But it's hard to believe.

Ok well... idk the point of going back and forth on this. I gave my experience. This thread was about people's impressions or experiences with them. Take it at face value. Or not. Good luck.

I had my clubs built professionally and they are bang on spec. I’ve not seen this from any lie with any of my clubs.  I just don’t understand how 4.5°, 0.5” of shaft length and a sole slot can yield 30+ yards. Something is off. Way off!

I don't have a 30 yard gap, but I guarantee the gap between my 7,8 is  larger than any other gap in my bag!  Whether you understand or not....

Then I suppose TM is really good at building 7i but horrible at building 8iís. Seriously, Iím beginning to wonder if thereís no Speed Foam in some of these hot 7iís that allows more face flex/rebound which leads to these crazy large yardage gaps. Other TM clubs have had sole slots in the longer irons and none in the short irons yet I donít recall hearing this problem with those models.

First 18 in the books with the P790s. Couple of quick thoughts.

1. They look good, like really good. Perfect size and shape to my eye.
2. The 5-7 irons feel good, like uber good. The 8-AW feel good, but the 5-7 jump off the page, feel good.
3. They are long, but nothing any longer than the CF16's.

Initial thoughts.
A. There were a couple things that took some getting used to. Distances were one, they are longer than the VPC's that I gamed for the past season. So, that will take time to really nail down.
B. These are a 1/2" shorter than the VPC's, that definitely took some time to get used to. I noticed it right off, because they definitely felt shorter. I was fit into the C200's at a 1/2" short, and these are actually even 3/4" shorter than the C200s. I kind of wish I would have gotten a 1/4" long. Not a big deal, but I kind of wish I would have done that.

I am excited to get a bunch more rounds on these, so that I can give more detailed thoughts.

i would say that TM quality control when it comes to loft isn't that great. first thing when receiving a new set of irons would be to have the loft and lie angle verified. i wouldn't at all be surprised if the 8 was a degree or two weak while the 7 a degree or two strong. for a high swing speed player, normal gap could easily be 15 yards. now add another 3-4 degrees due to lofts being off and an additional 15 yards wouldn't be all that impossible.

A buddy of mine just picked up a set of these with DG105. He hit almost every GIR, he's in love with them. He has about a 92MPH swing speed, but very consistent player. Was gaming AP2s before, but had to work harder to get them the distances he wanted. Sacrificed a bit of spin, but he's coming in higher than before so it balances out well.

Can't lie...I'm a bit jealous since our order times were the same haha. I'm still on wait until the 25th. Not sure what the hold up is, but I got Project X 6.0 for shaft so maybe it was there since that seems to be our only difference (well, along with length). We're in the same area generally speaking...so shouldn't be a region thing.

Is it possible, I'm hitting mine farther than '16 M2s (which I think have stronger lofts)? Both off the rack. M2's stock reax 88HL reg flex.

P790 with the Recoil 780 smacwrap in stiff. Only reason I went stiff was because the 760es were ridiculously light and felt like a noodle. And I wanted to try graphite (although steel doesn't bother my elbows).

Hit my 7 iron M2 about 130-140. And these are about 10-15 yards longer easily. Weird. I wasn't looking to gain any distance, just didn't like looking down at the M2. On a launch monitor hit a 5 iron 180 (total) which has NEVER happened in my life. I thought it was my speed training I've been doing, but I took both out to the range and the M2 is shorter consistently.

I had an issue with ballooning at first, turns out I think it was really crappy range balls (Srixon range balls that feel half the weight of real balls). Went to the course. No ballooning.

So evidently, if you order anything "custom", such as grips/shafts/etc (even if it is a stock offering), it falls into a 2 week ordering/build process. My rep called them and voiced displeasure due grips being classified as a custom order and they magically got them ready quicker.

Is it possible some heads may not get 100% fully injected with the speedfoam?  I have no idea about the manufacturing process, and I would assume there is a check in place.

Anyone order a P790 UDI weak? Would love to have one fill my 4 hybrid spot, but I fear it will carry too close to my current 15 degree 3 wood lol.
I didn't order one weak, i ordered it standard loft... I live in upstate NY so we're still praying for weather above 40* at this point.... but, I did have a chance to take it to the simulator and its one darn impressive club... I was getting 147-148mph ball speed out of it.. 245-250 carries... that's massive - and one HECK of a lot further than I can hit a 4hybrid... I have a M2 3-wood, and when i connect really good with it, i get 155-158mph ball speed, but its the club i struggle with the most getting the face squared up, for some reason, so the UDI will be my go-to to find tight fairways... and based on trajectory, the overall distance might be the same between the two - i don't recall.... however, the 3-wood will still have some merit by hitting the ball very high and landing softer on greens...

I never used a 4i up until now. My last GI's the 5i was a total shovel, forget the 4i. Something with the huge thickline and offset made it impossible for me to hit. On a good strike the 4i goes about 205 for me which is perfect. Even when I feel like I totally shanked it.... I still get about 185 yard carry which means worst case I generally am right infront or just off to the side of the green.

I've been using it on tight/dangerous holes until my UDI gets here. I never loved a long iron til now.... It kicked my trusty 816H out of the bag which could tend to balloon at times.

... " I had an eagle on the first hole today at Ocotillo, my last day in Phoenix before driving back to Chicago tomorrow. 205 to clear the water and 221 to the pin. What the he!!, it was my last day and I had a nice breeze at my back. I carried it on the green and it stopped a few inches from the hole for a tap in. I would NEVER have tried that shot with any 4 or even 3 iron iron before my P790's. I have extreme confidence in the long irons and try to find reasons to hit the 4 iron."

... Posted that again from earlier in this thread and as many others will testify, the P790 long irons are really amazing. I would not have tried the above shot with my 19* hybrid as I could hit it left and there was a deep bunker with no sand in it and a hair farther left, more water. I would have seen all the trouble with my hybrid or other long irons I have used, but with the P790 4 iron all I saw was an opportunity as again, I have complete confidence in the long irons, something I would have never said about any other long irons in the 40 years I have played this game.

Heads or shafts are on backorder. Always a different excuse. Lies. Iím so done with them after these come. I already bought a cally fairway wood over tm because of this.

... While I am not defending TM and have no idea what the hold up might be, but I would hesitate to call them liars. I have talked to several OEM's that get a promise from the foundry or the shipping dept and then they do not follow thru. It is very disappointing for the OEM's and can certainly not only cut into their bottom line, but make some customers unhappy enough to never buy from them again. The alternative of telling customers "we are at the mercy of our suppliers and if they don't come thru when they say they will you are just SOL." Kind of a dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. It would just be insanely reckless to purposefully lie to customers.
