Was pulling for Tag but hey congrats to the guy. Lack of fanfare I think is mostly due to it being opposite field event, but his douchebaggery certainly doesn't help.

PGA tour needs a few antagonists from time to time.... got plenty of khakis and cliches.

Sure, but antagonists are one thing.  Ripping a guy's nationality?  load of crap IYAM...

just to be clear, i'm in no way justifying anything this guy has done or said. i've posted in other threads about this guy being a classless dingleberry. i just think from a fan perspective, it's nice to have guys to root against, rather than having every guy be the prototypical choir boy. Professional golf doesn't get too many bad apples (esp winners) so I also think it's an interesting case study to observe as well.

True.  And I would agree with that.  A guy who "challenges" guys or something might make for some good reading.  This guy, though, frankly has gotten more posts than he deserves....

What happens when you are a "reputed" jerk to everyone you meet? When you win a PGA Tour event, you have to scroll 10 pages down of TheGolfChannel.com to see a small blurb about your victory. Now granted, there was this little event over the pond that took the headlines... but still. You don't even make the main page. You make the column off to the right

The guy is a prize toolbox, that is beyond doubt. However would this be any different if Tag Ridings or some other obscure journeyman had won? Unlikely.

Easy to judge someone without truly knowing them but to be fair he has acted in such a way that others very well have reason to judge his character poorly. I've known Grayson since he was a kid and hes truly a good guy. Never been one to have a filter. Many thought it would hinder his career (especially after seeing what his college career looked like) but their was never a doubt in my mind he'd be successful on the tour.

And for the guys saying the anxiety/depression is an excuse...c'mon fellas.

This thread got me to Google and then to this. Looks like he got a pretty good article on there just a couple of weeks ago.

I thought it was an interesting read. Know more about him now, sounds like he has some real issues and yes, has brought more than enough upon himself.

Thanks for the post, and a very interesting article. As usual, we try to polarise others into good and bad, when in reality there are many shades of grey involved, and many factors that contribute over time into a person's psychological makeup. Head injuries are no laughing matter, and it seems that his has caused some long term damage that he is trying hard to overcome.

lets make assumptions and classless comments on a guy because you view him as classless and brash.  hypocritical much?  meanwhile... hes clearly working things out.  He got off social media (at least took at break or someone else is managing it)   yes he won a tournament with a weaker field but he still won.  His stats also suggest he's playing a lot better.

Calling someone classless and brash is not a classless and brash statement. It is a statement stating a fact.

As for Grayson... we are not talking 1 screw-up... we are not talking 5..... we are not even talking about 10. There is a pattern here. He is a habitual offender that will keep offending. He will become the Ryan Leaf of golf.

Grayson Murray, the guy who's gotten more bad press in his rookie year (for good reason) than anyone in recent memory just won his first PGA title, albeit an opposite-field event, and all the PGA Tour could post on their website was his "lucky bounce".  You see those lucky bounces all day long on Tour.  I guess he really did make himself some enemies.  It seemed to be hours after the last putt dropped before the first story appeared.  Now that he's in the spotlight a little more, here's hoping the PGA lays the law down on his behavior.  His junior and collegiate reputation makes Patrick Reed's look good and he hasn't gotten any better lately with his tweets to underage girls, caddie problems, etc..  Here's hoping that he grows up quickly now that he's finally in the spotlight for something positive.

What's his reputation from his Junior/College days?

Wait, so you wanted to root for a total jackass without an "excuse" for being a jackass, yet when you find out about his battle with anxiety, which can somewhat be attributed to his jackassedness, you no longer want to root for him? Interesting.

Anyway, I'm not rooting for the guy. But the fact that he has anxiety at least gives me reason to consider rooting for him. Anxiety and depression is a real illness. Its serious stuff.

Really glad you posted this article. I got a really bad concussion racing in an ironman about 4 years ago and I had SERIOUS issues for a year with memory loss and just flat spacing out.  I had headaches and sensitivity to light. I had wild mood swings and was just unhappy.  I didn't know what to do, even though I was working with a sports medicine doctor who is at the top of the field in concussion diagnosis/therapy.  you literally don't know how you will feel day to day. I'm not a drinker or partier but could see how that could lead someone down a very impulsive lifestyle. I was finally diagnosed with depression about 2 years ago and work HARD to stay above the water line.  My wife is my rock and watches me like a hawk. She can see when I start going down the "hole".  She doesn't get mad, she doesn't tell me to get over it, she just holds my hand and listens. i am not taking any anti-depression medication because I was like the 1% of people that it made my symptoms worse. I manage it thru exercise, diet and surrounding myself with people I trust and can be honest with. 100%. Some of them don't know I was diagnosed and that is only because you don't just walk up to someone and say "oh hey, I have depression".  it can lead to very erratic behavior on my part and so I don't put myself in situations that would lead me to make bad decisions.

My point in all of this is that Grayson isn't like the rest of everyone else and that is not easy for people to understand. That is ok. The fact he came out and talked about his struggles is a step in the right direction. I hope and pray he stays above the water line and keeps himself moving forward.  Small goals, task oriented lifestyle can help the demons stay at bay. The fact he is a PGA tour player who now has won is a testament to his talent because most folks wouldn't be able to draw a club back with all he has going on upstairs.  I'm not excusing his past transgressions because for him to heal he needs to own his words but He has a new fan in me who will root for him on and off the course.

This thread got me to Google and then to this. Looks like he got a pretty good article on there just a couple of weeks ago.

http://www.golfchann...grayson-murray/

I thought it was an interesting read. Know more about him now, sounds like he has some real issues and yes, has brought more than enough upon himself.

Hey man glad to hear you have made some positive change in your own life!  Keep it up, and best of luck

"Does anyone cares about champions tour"... asks golfer nobody cares about, who won a tournament nobody cares about, and has a twitter account nobody should pay attention to.

Irony abounds.

The worst part for me is in one of the follow up Tweets where he feels he can speak for Phil, Tiger and Furyk by suggesting they will never play on the Champions Tour. I am 99.999% sure he doesn't know that for a fact.

A guy like this is an embarrassment to the game of golf and especially the PGA Tour.

He isn't even the best player on the Duke basketball team. Should just stop tweeting and worry about throwing entry passes to Marvin Bagley III

I get that he has had a lot of problems and for that he has my sympathy but sometimes people are just <insert your own choice of insult here> and he is one of them.

I'm not generally one to root against golfers but he is definitely an exception to that rule.

It seems winning one opposite field PGA Tour event grants unlimited lifetime chirping privileges.
