Drivers are much a mental thing.....I have never liked Callaway and I have struggled with both of the Epic heads and 5 different shafts. I just don't like the way it looks sitting down by the ball and I don't like the feel as the head is too light for my liking. I get a PUD with Callaway so I tried it and it just doesn't work for ME like my Ping G LST did. I love my Apex CF16/Apex Pro combo set of irons though.

Can't speak to the epic, but this is BY FAR the best driver I have ever hit.

I've had a bunch and used to drive the ball well. Lately I switched to a LTD Pro and proceeded to bomb it for a month and the duck hook until I finally sold it. Amazing sound. Amazing spin. So long. Couldn't be even moderately consistent.

Went to a G30 LST. Wow. I had an I25 and G25, and I know ping makes amazing stuff, but that driver was soooo easy to hit. It sounded awful, even with 4 cotton balls, but it was bombing fairways.

Then SNAP.... the G30 LS breaks its shaft. And I was playing bethpage (not black) the next day....

I go to get a new G30LS.... I'll buy a shaft on eBay and return the head with that new shaft... but the new G400 is there.

Long story... 10/14 fairways with 290 average later and I couldn't be happier.

The ping size and shape look so right.

The sound is so much better.

And as always... a ping is long and easy to hit.

Never gotten along with Ping drivers.  Love their irons, but in the past their drivers go straight right on me.

No different on the G400 series.  The SF goes one fairway right, the G goes two fairways right, and the LS goes three fairways right.

My Epic SZ and just newly acquired regular Epic are laser straight and really, really long.

Not sure why I don't get along with Ping drivers, as I don't have that same issue with any other brand - TMAG, Titleist, Callaway, Cobra - and maybe it's just mental at this point.  Regardless of the reason, it exists.

I really was hoping the 400 series would work for me, as I love Ping's engineering prowess and my i200 irons are awesome, but they didn't.

G LS Tec is a monster driver.....looking forward to hitting the G400 version
Was your previous driver the Epic SZ prior to the G LS?

I found the G400 LST to not be as fade bias (good for me, not for some). I played the G SF Tec previously and went with the G400 LST. Could never turn over the G LST but much easier time hitting the G400 straight.

A 2yd draw is the closest i can hit to a fade. LOL

So i have no idea what a fade biased driver is because i haven't hit a fade since like 2012

But i love the G LS ....with the tour shaft it's the highest launching truly low spin setup i've hit.

Third time testing the G30 LS....G LS....and 400 LS against each other, this time with monitor outdoors all with the same shaft......For me, the G30 is the clear winner again.

I have two opportunities to hit the G400LST now. 10 degree set at standard with the Tour 65 shaft.  I absolutely love my G30LST with the Tour 65. In fact, I tried the G LST with the same same (which I liked well enough) but went back to the 30. The G400 is definitely threatening the G30LST. I'm not sure I'll pick up any significant distance. Drivers are maxed out so it's really a matter of finding the right head/shaft combo. The appeal for me is the smaller size, improved sound and I find the G400 easier to draw when needed.

Drivers Maxed Out?  What about me?  I am 60 and I don't hit it as far as I used too(:!

Driver technology has been maxed out. All marketing now.

Lately, it's about forgiveness, consistency, and tinkering with ball speed - aero/shape/stiffening

Not sure how people can think the ping is more muted than the SZ or muted in general.  I understand it's not as loud as the last versions, but I literally had people turning around and looking at the bay when I was hitting at GG. Solid... Definitely. Muted... Absolutely not. And I'm not saying being loud is a bad thing, I played an L4V for close to 5 years and still bring it out every once in a while. I personally prefer the sound and feel of the epic. But I can definitely see why some would prefer the G400.

The numbers were amazing, right on par with my SZ and with the stock stiff shaft as well. Very impressed with the club. It felt great, It went far, and it went straight. The crown is a bit busy and it sat more upright than my SZ, but that may be due to the shaft being an inch longer than my SZ. I won't be purchasing because I am quite happy with my driver at the moment. But if I was in the market for one, it would be pretty hard to pass up.

I really want to order one of these but if I do now it will have to be without demoing first. Currently playing the 816 dbd 9* set @ 10* & also played the m1 440 9.5* set 1 notch to higher with good success.  Should I order the 8.5 because I know I will @ least play it on the small + to close the face a bit?  Weird that 8.5 scares me a bit but if it said 9 I wouldn't b worried @ all.

How is it clearly better for you? I agree the G30 LS was better than the G LS, but does the G400 LS not sound way better? Less spin too? I have not hit the G400 LS, which is why I am asking.

I have demoed the G400 LST and compared it to my current G LST, the sound is most definitely improved, more muted and solid, the smaller head appeals to me, I've always used smaller drivers (RFX and X Hot Pro), that said, the difference was so small that I will not exchange my G LST, my numbers were (GC2):

G LST, 10.5*, Alta 55, X Flex at 44.5":
SS: 108-110
Launch: 13.9*
Carry: 289-292
Total: 307-311
Spin: 2100-2215

G400 LST, 10.5*, Alta CB55, X Flex at 44.5":
SS: 109-111
Launch: 14.1*
Carry: 291-294
Total: 309-313
Spin: 2100-2197

I really enjoyed the demo, but again, I am so used to my G LST that I will keep it in the bag, yes it improved my numbers, even at the smallest margin...that said, I have hit my best drives with the G LST...the G400 series are amazing no doubt, but I'll stick to what I know is working...

You got me there....Yes, it does sound better but distance was the same as the G30 ls and the dispersion was not as good.....Spin numbers were about the same but saw nothing better about it for me other than sound ......The for me part is probably an important part of my post.

lucky dog that money can be used elsewhere now.  I (un) fortunately saw significant gains and looks like I'll be spending coin on this bad boy.  Continental golf fitting picked up 2-3 mph swing speeds and 5mph ball speeds to double digit carry gains.
The G30 is a monster. Other than sound, the shape and head size was also appealing to me. Thanks for sharing the comparisons.  Love seeing the G30 still going....loved mine.

6 rounds in with 400 LS and loving it. Knee was hurting on last round and I was having trouble getting all the way through the ball but still got a lot more off the tee than I deserved in lathe part to forgiveness on off center strikes

3 rounds with the LST 400.

Had the G25, G30LS, and I25.

To me it beats them all. With it being as forgiving to me as the G25... and that thing would forgive you for sleeping with its wife.

The G400 LST (to me...)

By far best sounding.
By far best looking (smaller and shorter)
Equal to top forgiving, if not better.
Equally as long or longer than the i25 and G30LS.

A winner.

Decided to,put the Epic SZ back in the rotation just to be sure I prefer LST.  All subjective stuff based on my on course experience  but yesterday put the starting role of the LST in doubt. Epic SZ was longer yesterday and also very forgiving. Honestly I thing I could close my eyes and not tell npmuchmdifference other than sound/feel in the two drivers. It's great to have a back up that performs as good as my starter whichever one that is I decide on

Ping is at our club next weekend to do a G400 demo day. I can't wait to really test the G400 LS Tec.

I've used the Epic SZ and the G LS Tec a lot in the past two weeks, probably 3-4 round with each. The Epic SZ is a monster driver, so long but i still find it a bit awkward to hit, i'm not quite as consistent and the thumpy sound isn't my favorite. But it runs forever. The G LS Tec is probably the most confident i've ever felt just going full bore on a driver even under pressure. I just whale away on it and it goes straight mostly. But i launches higher and spins a bit more

If the G400 LS can meet me somewhere in the middle than it's the greatest driver ever

I dumped g ls tec fairly quick due mostly to sound.  I was in the market for g400 but with all the delays and a great price on Cobra ltd I'm not looking back.  It was my first ping driver and I owned it maybe 2 months.  Hope the others love it when they get it...the g still had better numbers than any combo of epic I tried..only giving up a few yards.

Think you'll see a lot of reviews in about 2 weeks or so, not many have the head yet.

Was in a tournament this weekend. First day i played a ping g sf tec with fujikura rombax z 70 x flex. I hit it very good as its been my gamer last few weeks. i fit into a ls head so it gets a bit spinny at times but the shaft keeps it in check. I traded in a new ping g i had and picked up a g400 ls tec with tour 65 x flex shaft. I just played second round today with the new driver and had many holes to compare the distance. I would say its an honest 10-15 yards longer than my last combo. That said the g ls tec was 10 ish longer than the standard g for me as well. Another thing id like to point out is how forgiving this thing is. I had a few hit low on the face that ended up in places they had no business being. Tour shaft felt very smooth. I had the g400 set at 10 degrees and my g sf tec was 11 degrees. Now the rombax z in the g is a low launch shaft but still the g400 launched much higher. Will be lofting down and suggest people get fit coming from last years g as they will likely fit into a lower lofted head.

I demoed the standard 400 with the stock regular and stiff shaft along with the white tie out of my G30.  I also hit the 3 wood,5 wood, 7 wood and I blade with a stock ping graphite stiff shaft..

The I-blades felt amazing with the stock graphite shafts.  I can confer that the 400 driver is more muted than my G30.

The outdoor range balls flew straight, low, and then and just dropped out of the sky like a dead duck. The balls were so worn that there wasn't much left in the way of dimples, and they just didn't seem to go anywhere.  Solid 7 iron shots seem to be 20-30 yards shorter than what I've had previously.  The slight breeze was downwind.

The range was doing a disservice to the Ping clubs.

Swing the 8.5 LST with tour 65 X shaft. The sound and feel was much improved from the G30lst I used to game. However, I hit huge duck hooks with it. I feel like with enough time and right shaft, it could be a monster. My club head speed jumped to 111mph which is a new high. Launch was a tad low but again, I didn't have any solid straight shots to begin with.

It's worth noting that I haven't played golf in just under 2 weeks so it could just be that I'm rusty as hell too.

Yeah, my current ball flight is more fade than draw so this was shocking

I had a Glst that sounded like a tin can potato launcher.. hit it well enough that i didn't worry about the sound, which was WAY different from my Gsft that I  first bought (i hit the G30sft as good as any driver but never really liked the looks of the G30)  The hosel on my 9* Glst cracked and they sent me a new head... it sounds completely different than the others... it sounds great.

I went into GG to try out the G400 LST and I totally found this to be the case. I actually had to lower the loft from 8.5 to get my ideal drive (coming from G LS Tec 9.0). Will definitely be purchasing one when they become available. I've heard as soon as next week but then up until mid September.

I'll be hitting the G400 driver and fairway tomorrow... I'm nervous I'll like them so much that I'll place an order. However... My M2 just isn't working for me. I want to go back to playing a draw and with M2 everything is a fade. I've read the face is ~2* open in the Neutral loft setting, but even when I close the face from the 9.5* position to the 11* position, it doesn't seem to help a ton.

I've read that the face angles are between .5* open and .5* closed, so that could be much better for me. With my old Fly Z and Chrome Elements shaft, it was high draws all day, but just a bit too much spin.
