I picked this up a week ago new from my local club pro.  He let me take it out for a demo and I was impressed enough to buy it as a back up to my Epic SZ.  I ended up with 10 Degree LST with stock shaft.  I have three rounds, two with the stock and one with a Kuro Kage Silver Tour Stiff.  I also had a chance to compare the LS Tec set at 11 with the Epic SZ also set at 11 both with identical Kuro Kage Silver Tour Stiff.  Here are my initial impressions:

Distance - Very close with perhaps a yd advantage to the Epic SZ

Trajectory - LS Tec Flies a bit higher than the Epic ZS both set at 11 with identical shafts.  Epic runs out more when it hits the ground

Dispersion - very close with slight edge to the G400 LS Tec

Feel - I prefer the Epic but the G400 LS Tec feels fine.  Splitting hairs here.

Forgiveness - Slight edge to Ping G400 LS Tec.

Sound - both are polite and well mannered.  The G400 LS Tec sounds more subdued than the G and G30 models which I found to be loud and tinny.

Bottom line for me.  Close your eyes, grip it and rip it.  Can't go wrong either way.

A note on stock shaft.  For my game it's playable and probably a good fit for a lot of folks but not for me.  I saw a definite increase with the Kuro Kage Silver.

I have two opportunities to hit the G400LST now. 10 degree set at standard with the Tour 65 shaft.  I absolutely love my G30LST with the Tour 65. In fact, I tried the G LST with the same same (which I liked well enough) but went back to the 30. The G400 is definitely threatening the G30LST. I'm not sure I'll pick up any significant distance. Drivers are maxed out so it's really a matter of finding the right head/shaft combo. The appeal for me is the smaller size, improved sound and I find the G400 easier to draw when needed.

I hit it yesterday with the tour shaft x flex 9 degree. I found the flight extremely high and the 9 degree loft turned down looked 10.5 to my eye. Was not overly impressed. I will say it sounds much better than the previous two generations. I'm not a fan of that God awful trap on the crown or the extremely stretched out head that reminds me of a cast iron frying pan.

The kuro kage is a $250 upcharge at GG. I'd rather pay the $35 for the ping tour shaft.

Yet here we have a driver that reduces drag for increased club head speed and lots of reports of higher ball speeds with said driver.

I hit the new PING Tour 65 X today, and in addition to looking cool, it feels and performs great as well.

Overall, the new G400s are serious. I typically play 9-9.5º, but I was getting really playable numbers from the 10º LST. Sound is far less tinny than previous PING models, and the new matte finish on the sole looks killer and will wear well.

I also hit the new-for-2017 copper-colored Alta shafts, but I think they're probably too loose for anyone who can swing it over 105mph.

I ordered the G400 LS ... I agree that it looks elongated from front to back. Certainly not the same shape as a D3, M1 440 or Z765

the G30 and the G looked more stretched than the 400 to me.. I didn't care for the shape (it started on the G25, then they added the turbulators, that made it worse) when the G came out the Dragonfly top made it less noticeable to my eye somehow.  But this one looks to have a slightly more rounded shape, at least to my first look.

Mine is on backorder so I won't see it for a month but still...

funny how the same thing is perceived so different.  I think the Epic has the best shape, but I hate the sound/feel.... and I am a Ping fanboy anyway....

It is less stretched out than the prior generations, but still stretched out IMO. It is dependent on the point of reference I suppose

I think the prettiest driver they have ever made is the Anser... if they would put this shape back in play, with all the new stuff, that would be my gamer.. .

But of course, I would buy a Modern TiSiTec if they brought that out as well..  The only Ping Driver I didn't get along with was my Si3, and I would wager that it was the archer, not the arrow...

I will be getting rid of my G30 and my GLST for the G400LST, so I hope that all is well with it... I am going to put my trusty Aldilla Rouge Silver in it... and see what she will do...  I generally will not get rid of any clubs, but finances may force my hand on this one...

I don't like to get rid of my old irons either, but may have to trade a set in to get my kid a new set of G400s as he is finally starting to play (funny, he didn't enjoy it until I wasn't the one playing with him)

GG, for a long time I tried not to get rid of old clubs and ended up with a couple of bags full of clubs in my basement.  The past 12 months I have been emptying out the bags whether it is an unreal trade in promo with Global Golf or selling them to an intern at work so that he can have clubs made this century, I find it kind of nice to not have all that baggage.  That being said the G400 is going to be a costly line for me I suppose, I have already ordered the driver and expect to buy a 3w and crossover but those orders haven't been placed just yet, likely within the next week or two.

Nonsense.  Its just been a bit since someone has come up with something amazing.  A decade isn't that long in golf terms for a huge leap in performance.  Everyone thought wedges were wedges until the 588.  Everyone thought woods were woods until Taylormade gave them a metal face.

There will be another massive breakthrough in either the shaft or the head, and none of us know what it is yet.  The R7 (first driver with perimeter weights and last one i would call a game changer) was only 13 years ago.  Most golf innovations are way more spread out than 13 years (for example, the hybrid is only 16 years old).

But COR's been maxed out!  Don't care.  They are super smart guys.  They will think of something.  We just don't know when.

How is the fade bias on the G400LS?  I am totally fine with the G30-LS,  couldn't control the G-LS which only wanted to go high and right for me.  The G30LS is a SWEET driver with the Tour 65X shaft (IMHO the best stock shaft offering out).

COR is maxed, but I think MOI is not yet maxed, and I'm not sure what restrictions are on aero dynamics of the club. You still may see a yard to 2 gain year over year still. It's not much, and for all intents and purposes is virtually the same, but there's still tiny tiny improvements being made still.

Is this actually true? So within tolerance, you may get a 9* lofted head that's actually .5* closed?

My perfect driver is a low spin forgiving head, due to my need to use more of a mid spin shaft based on my swing. However, the SZ and other "low spin heads" tend to have 2* or more of openness in std loft. Then I need to close the face down which whether or not Mr Wishon says does nothing to static loft... Does usually give me more spin and higher launch.

A 9* head that actually sat completely square or even a hair closed would be my dream head.

OP, you compared two really great drivers.  I am not surprised you had good experiences with both.

I just finished demoing the G400 LS Tec 8.5* head over the weekend with some time on a Launch monitor and some outdoor testing.  The G400 gave me ridiculous numbers over the G LS. With the 400, I was hitting it around 325 with 116 SS. That was 2 mph avg better on a 20 shot sample than my 114 SS avg with the G LS.

On the monitor, with a 20 shot sample comparing the G LS 9* vs the G400 LS 8.5* with identical HZRDUS Black shaft, I determined the following:

OBJECTIVE
- SS was 2mph better with the 400
- Overall distance was 8 yards better with the 400
- Spin was roughly 250 rpms lower with the 400 (right at 2200 avg)
- Dispersion had almost no difference
- Trajectory was just under 1* HIGHER with the 400 (surprising at .5* lower lofted clubhead, albeit this is just going by the number on the club, not an actual loft measurement)

After playing outdoors, I determined the following:

SUBJECTIVE
- Feel: 400 is a total winner here.  For me, swing weight and sound are the key factors going into feel and I much preferred the 400 here.  It felt closer (though not the same) to the feel of an Epic clubface.  As a long time FT-3 Tour user, I really appreciated this change by Ping.  Off the clubface feel is a 9 of 10 for me.  Only reason it isn't a 10 is because I gamed the Epic for a while and its still not quite as good.
- Look: Some are just never going to be okay with the turbulators, dragonfly tech, etc. etc.  I am not one of those people.  I LOVE the 445cc head (it's the primary reason for my interest in this club).  Even more perfect (again this is the SUBJECTIVE portion) is the fact that the LS head sits slightly open at address.  As a player who has always played a draw, I really loved this.  I have been working hard on my swing in order to start mastering a primary ball flight and I want that flight to be a fade.  This club produces a 5 yard fade on a stock swing for me
- Ball Flight: I place this as subjective because many say they "hit it too high or low", but in reality have no clue what is optimal for them.  The LM gave me optimal launch characteristics, but I wanted to validate this on the course.  I hit about 40 range balls and played 18 holes and my results were ABSOLUTELY validated outdoors.  The launch felt a tad high, but with what I could tell were not high spin shots (trajectory was high, but still flat), I was fine with this.  I absolutely LOVE the 5 -8 yard fade it produces for me.  The dispersion on this club is unreal.  I've never had a driver feel point and shoot, but the 400 with the HZRDUS Black is as close as it gets for me.

Anyway, just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents.   I have fallen in love with this club based on the subjective determinations.  Thankfully, I have the objective results to validate my upcoming purchase!

Can;t wait to give one of these a good session. I tried to love the G LS last year but i digitally lofted at 9 degree and hit nothing but knuckle balls with it. They just didnt go anywhere and was extremely wild dispersion wise. Had to let her go. I am assuming I am going to need the 10 in the LS or even the standard G400. When i got the G LS i had never experienced the lack of spin or something from a driver before. I swing 115 give or take a few and currently game a Ping G25 8.5 with Fuji Fuel TS 6X and have a perfect ball flight with it. I have had the hardest time trying to kick that club out. Can;t find anything to compete with it yet.

I will say I wasnt a big fan of the look of the G LS, hoping the slightly smaller size of the 400 series helps with that. Also the sound was loud and just unpleasing compared to my G25. Those were some of the big knocks when i tried the LS last year. All that I am hoping to see an improvement in.

Update. On vacation this week and played 18 today in Seattle at a pretty nice Munic -West Seattle. I really hit some great bombs with the 400 LS Tec today. Forgiveness is a strength as it's distance. Putting the Kuro Kage Tour Stiff really brought the spin down from the Alta and I was getting some good rolll when it hit which was not the case with the Alta.  Hope to play a few more rounds and if results continue The Epic SZ may be dethroned

I just did a driver fitting and had a chance to hit the G400 LS

I hit the Epic and the G400 LS both with a Fujikura Pro XLR8 in Stiff.

It wasn't even close the epic demolished it. I was swinging it 2-4mph faster on average with 4-8mph more ballspeed. I think i topped out right at 100mph with the G400 LS and my max on the Epic was 104 with average of 102.

The G400 LS Tech also spun like a mother and launched high. I dont mind high launch if it is with low spin. But I wasnt getting below 2800 with it. Usually around 3k+. Was robbing me of distance...whereas the Epic I was getting 12-14* Launch with 2200-2400 spin. Was longer by 10-15y carry and another 10-20y roll.

The G400 LS tech looks silly, as did the G400 and SF Tech. SF Tech looks very closed and i found the G400 did too. The turbulators and that crap on the crown is way too pronounced and distracting. The matte black is sick though.

Feel was meh as was the sound.

... Impossible! Drivers are maxed out. It is all hype and every driver is exactly the same.

... Good stuff. What some fail to realize is there is always something that might benefit any given golfer and they can gain yardage and/or hit the ball straighter with a new driver. After many years of no gains, the Epic has given me 10+ yards. I honestly did not think that was possible and combined with the fact that I have never played a Callaway driver, it was a very pleasant surprise. So many factors are involved from cg location to spin rates to where you hit it on the face and even sound and feel can have an effect on any given individual. After all it is the reason most of us are on a golf forum. To read about, demo and sometimes buy the newest equipment. And while every new club will most certainly not give a performance increase over what people are already playing, every new club will increase performance for somebody. It is the Zero Effect.

I found the G400 LST to not be as fade bias (good for me, not for some). I played the G SF Tec previously and went with the G400 LST. Could never turn over the G LST but much easier time hitting the G400 straight.
