hi,

i'm heading to tokyo in about a week for work. does anybody have recommendations on any golf stores to check out while i'm there? also where they're located? i'll be staying in shibuya and i do not speak japanese. i'm confident taking the subway/JR lines but i always get lost after getting out of the stations. :man_in_love:

i know for sure i want to check out the mizuno store. can anybody tell me where this one is at too?

thanks!

It all depends what do you want out of it.  Are you looking to get a set of custom Miura irons or custom drivers or just to have a store to look at all the latest oem?  Some go to custom fit, some go to test all the latest JDSM shafts.

Golf Effort is a must.  If you can find the area that the Mizuno store is there are lots of golf shops in that area.  I was there a couple of years ago, but I can't remember the name of the train stop.  I'm sure if you ask the concierge you can get that info.

In Akihabara there is an electronics store that has a golf shop on the top level.  Can't remember what the store was called.  Sorry getting old and alzheimer's.

Great golf shops in Japan.  You will have a blast.

Hi I was in tokyo a few months ago and visited almost every golf store I could find.

Mizuno store is located in I believe Kanda. I believe it is near the Tokyo metro Shin-Ochanomizu station.  The golf section is on the top floor (think there are about 5 or 6 floors).  There is also a large Victoria Golf there.

Around Tokyo Victoria golfstores are located close to all JR line stations (Gotanda, Ginza, Shinjuku)

The best thing I found was to go to the information centres and ask them for a map and to point out where the golf shops are they were all usually very helpful.

Also you could go to the large department stores like Daimaru etc which carry Mizuno, On Off, PRGR, Tourstage but they tend to be quite expensive.

Shops tend to close quite early think around the 7-8pm mark however there are large electronic shops called BIC Camera that are open till 10pm or so and they usually have a good selection of golf equipment as well (Tourstage, Callaway (Japan), Taylor Made, Titleist etc).

Hope this helps.

Great advice so far... if you want to go looking for new stuff, hit Victoria golf in Shinjuku - floor after floor of fantastic kit. I forget the exit to go out to the shop, but ask at an information booth in the station.

I haven't hit the Mizuno shop, so I'm not much help there, but Bic Camera is great for clothing.

Finally, if you're after custom gear, let us know and Duffy might be able to point you in the right direction. Keep in mind it might be a bit tough to get something built up if you can't speak much Japanese. Regardless, you'll have a great time though!

If you just want to look at the latest JDM gears, Victoria would be the one to go if you can only make it one and they do carry a whole bunch of demo but not custom demo.  Miura only carried a few selected custom houses and are not availale from normal golf stores.  If you are into 2nd hand or bargain stuff, try Festival Golf.  They buy and sell 2nd hand gears besides new stuff.  My biggest treat when I go to Japan is not to look at the latest JDM gears (which is availale everywhere else) but a chance to try all the latest and newest premium clubs and shafts availale in Japan and not available else where.  Where else can you try a Crazy shaft that cost 700 or 800 a piece?

You can check www.festivalgolf.jp for the store near you.  It is one of Japan largest chain stores for used clubs.  Japanese has the habit of changing clubs every year or whenever new gears come out hence used gears could be just in great condition.

I visit japan twice a year for golf shopping and was there just last month. I bought a set of Tourstage irons over in Ueno and was able to get 30% off retail price. You can ask for discounts over at Victoria Golf but only 10%, but that is the best place if you are looking for the newest apparels and golf equipments.

When you head down to Ueno, its the second street. There's only two major golf stores on the street and they are across from each other. There's one with four floors, it's the one across from it. I believe it's called Niki Golf. Good Luck!

www.nikigolf.jp/

It is a large chain so there could be a store close to you somewhere in the city.

I personally like the Akiba Store at the Yodabashi Camera building at Akihabara. Just take the subway to Akihabara, and ask information for the exit that leads to Yodabashi Camera. Its the top floor and has a driving range beside, approximately 50 yards then net. Very up to date selection with decent pricing. Show your passport to avail of the 5% tax discount.

Everybody has more or less gotten the hot spots all plotted out.
I attached a list of stores and their general location.
Victoria Golf, Festival Golf all have other branches but the one's listed are their flagship stores. You can ask the hotel conciergie for instructions on how to get there. The area between JR Okachimachi and JR Ueno station have about 8 golf stores and also vendors selling cosmetics (cheaper than buying duty free), apparel, etc. There's also a shop called "London Sports" that carries out-of-season sports wear that they sell at 20-50% of retail price and they have a branch that speciallizes in golf wear. Golf wear branch is hard to find so just ask at a branch on the main street.
Happy hunting!

For a truly custom wedge, you can try this one:  http://www.grindstudio.com/index.html  I dont think it is in Tokyo but then again you just said Japan.

I have tried Keiyo Golf, http://www.keiyo-golf.com/, but only for a driver.  I do know they do wedges but not sure whether they would can do special grind.

There is also a fairly well known workshop Golf Boomer in Tokyo  http://www.golfboomer.com/

For your normal golf brand apparel such as Tourstage, XXIO, Mizuno Callaway, etc.. it would have to be Victoria at Shinjuku.  If you are looking for upper end golf wear of designer stuff such as Black & White, Bally, Burburry and the like, it would probably be the sport wear department of one of the major department stores.  For cheaper and discounted or past season stuff, try the golf department of BIC Cameras.

Actually, Nikigolf at Ueno has a lot of apparel too.. As much if not more then Victoria Golf.. If time is tight.. should go to Ueno.. Hit the golf shops there hit Festival Golf.. they have 5000 used clubs.. But beware that most of Japan's stiff is more like a Reg. in North America..

Digging a thread out from the grave.

I'm travelling to Tokyo in 3 weeks.  Does the information here still hold true?  Any new places?

I'm primarily looking for apparel (just dropped on a new set over Christmas).  Quite looking forward to Uniqlo tbh

Victoria Golf is still there.  I'm not a big fan of it and wouldn't buy clubs there as you can definitely get them cheaper.  Jypers (new and have american specs) and Golf Partner (used) are right across the street from each other.  Bic Camera has re-done their golf section and it's bigger now.  So, you could hit those 3 places by walking.

Festival Golf in Ueno is pretty good, and you should be able to find some unusual stuff there.
Compared to prices in secondhand shops where I am, I thought it was a little on the expensive side, but if you're comparing to prices for JDM stuff in the USA, I imagine it will seem more reasonable.
There's also a small Festival Golf in Shinjuku, IIRC, a couple of minutes walk from near the main post office. That had some good stuff in it, but no hitting bays to try clubs out.
