Thinking about putting these up against my standard NXT S. I like medium to medium high spin, soft-ish feel. I remember seeing a chart out a while ago where the RZN black spun fairly low on driver, but decently high off wedges. These look to be a good deal right now on my usual golf ball purchasing website, so I'm tempted to grab a few dozen.

I'm using the rzn tour black. Bought 9 dozen when Nike went out of the game.

Love the ball.

RZN Black is nothing like nxt s. RZN is a firm feeling 4 piece tour caliber ball, nxt s is a soft 2 piece surlyn.

^ yes but is it as high spinning as ProV1? I can't remember, and I thought all the tour guys used Nike Plat?

And I may want a higher spinning ball, because I just retired my MP54's and am moving back to GI irons because my strike has gone to hell. Jacked lofts and hotter face means I need a ball that potentially spins more.

I'd take a look at the tournplats if you want something a little softer and more spin. Think plat as the prov1 and the blacks as the v1x

Hmmm Yeah I really like the softer feel. I just gamed some Chrome Softs today... Loveeee that softer feel, but not a total marshmallow like Supersofts. My NXT Tour S are just a touch more firm, but don't spin quite as much with approaches.

As an FYI, the Chrome Soft has a 70 compression and the RZN TP is 74. I believe the NXT Tour S is a hair over 80, but that is just a guess since it is supposedly similar in feel to the ProV1.

To me, the Prov1 and the NXT S feel almost identical when I hit them. It's certainly soft enough, it's not mega clicky like the ProV1x or Srixon XV. It's just something about balls like chrome soft in the 70's that feel so satisfying when you can literally feel that compression off an iron. Plus I like a bit more muted sound off my putter.

I think I'm going to buy a dozen RZN plat, a dozen CS and then a regular of my dozen NXT S and hit them off GC2 to see if there's any real difference between them. I've somehow been getting better at golf lately, and I have somehow let 3 dozen golf balls last me since early April playing 1-2x a week. So I'm hoping this next order gets me through the rest of the year.

Thanks for the suggestions all, I will let you know how I get on with the Nike balls.

I got a free dozen of those, and I smashed it over 300, thought I sliced into some hills so I spent 10 minutes looking for it and once I gave up I found it about 40 yards from the green on the fairway. So it's a good ball for distance. I also fade it 80% of the time so that's why I thought I sliced

i'm starting to worry if the stockpile of rzn black im sitting on isn't the right ball for me. i can play them and get around the course, but i'd like to optimize where i can.

i was recently on trackman for a fitting (just 7 iron) and was generally 80-84mph with 7 iron. i have no idea what my driver SS is but at home on my skytrak i am seeing on good hits 130mph ball speed with an rzn black. i can't imagine that's more than about 85mph. anyway. i only see around 212 carry on a good hit.

is the RZN black too much ball for me? anyone have opinions? i don't generate a lot of spin around the greens because i don't get much check very often, but sometimes on approach shots i will see 6"-1foot of spin back per where my pitch mark is.

thinking of trying a srixon q star tour or something.

IIRC the black was for faster swings and the platinum for slow swings - have you tried the RZN platinum? But then again maybe this late in the game if you havent tried the platinum, it's not worth it because it's discontinued.

the platinum IIR wasn't targeted for slower swing speeds but it did spin more than the black, which could hurt driver distance. i tried the platinum also and it wasn't much different in feel. i'll prob buy a dozen q star tour and a dozen chrome soft to compare on my skytrak at home before i purge the blacks.

The Speed was surlyn covered.

I doubt you're losing a ton of distance due to the compression.  Might just be too low of spin and knuckle out.

I think you would find, if tested, 10 yards max of distance difference.  You might enjoy a softer ball that you can control.

RZN Black was one of my favorite balls ever made.  Great product IMO.

I'll be putting the Platinum in play this weekend vs Supersoft, NXT, & Chrome Soft. Nothing has yet to really knock the supersoft out permanently... I keep trying these tour balls and I don't notice massive differences in spin as far as balls checking up, etc. I must be getting enough height with the Supersofts to get stopping power, as I don't find myself running through greens all that often. Cheapest price, best feel... It would take a lot to get me to spend more $$ on a ball right now.

I played the Black since they first came out but moved to the Callaway Chrome Soft and am glad I did.

The Callaway is softer and has more green side spin and I also picked up about 5-10 yards as well.
