New Taylormade Myroundpro app
I have started to Beta test the new Taylormade Myroundpro app this week. The myroundpro site has been around for a few years but to track on course you had to have the Microsoft Band. The other option was to log on to the website and manually enter a round. Hard to do and very time consuming. I have the IOS app and so far have only been able to log one round, but it looks very promising. It is real similar to other tracking options like Game golf and Accros but you don't have to buy hardware. After each shot just pull up the app and push a button and tell the app which club you used. I will try to post a more detail review later after I use it more.

Pros:
No funny looking equipment to buy or wear
You can edit in the app if you missed tracking a shot
Strokes gain stats which is my favorite part. Strokes gained driving, approach, short, and putting
Keeps all other stats and scores

Cons:
Never love messing with a app or equipment that much during a round. Hopefully when I learn how to use it better it will be quicker and easier.
Battery drain? I'm sure this will be a problem but need to test it more

I was able to log my round last night after my round. It seemed a little more difficult logging after the round but not to much extra effort. I can usually remember most of my shots pretty well several hours after a round. Good part of doing it that way is I get the stroke gained and stats without having my phone in my hand after every shot. It seems a lot easier than the website for logging a round. The bad part of doing it that way is you don't get exact yardages.

How did you get an iOS app for it?

No with the new IOS app you don’t need the band. The iPhone tracks with the phones gps.

I think you will like it. Part that threw me to start was you have to log the shot from where you hit it. So, from the tee box click shot in the bottom right then select the club. When you get to your ball then do the same thing for your approach. This way it logs true distance if the tees are back or forward it will know by where you logged the first shot.
When you select putt the first thing it will have you do is move the pin location then it will let you log each putt. You can do this manually or with gps on the green.

I'm playing around in it now. One cool feature I see is the ability to select which club you are hitting each shot with, and as long as you select the club from where you are hitting, it will track your distances using the gps for each shot and give you some pretty detailed stats (kind of like Game Golf it seems)

I feel like they're a little late to the party.

With Game Golf, GolfShot, The Grint, Hole19, 18 Birdies, Track My Golf, etc etc...the market is already super saturated with apps. I don't see what this specific app would bring special to the table.

Yeah, all of the above do the exact same thing and have for quite a long time, but because pulling your phone out of your pocket before every shot is such a pain in the a**, most of them have incorporated some kind of easier tagging system or a combination of systems.   GameGolf, Golfpad, & Swing by Swing all support  phone only / smartwatch / NFC tagging systems.

Nothing to see here.

What is the baseline for their strokes gained metric ? Existing app users or Broadies database ? If latter, it makes broadies golfmetrics app useless ( it cost 80 per annum)

Just downloaded the app. It looks good, but I don't know how realistic it is to do the strokes gain information every round. Seems like it would slow down pace of play and mess up your own speed of play. Have to try it and see how it goes I guess.

I like the strokes gained part. Using the laptop, I just had to remember my distances, clubs, and putts. I'm not sure how quick it will be to track every shot and putt if you're in a cart, but we'll see. It wasn't too hard, but the strokes gained part really showed me where I could improve instead of just guessing. It does the SG based on your handicap, which I like.

Tried to download the app yesterday evening as I play twice this week-end. Unfortunately it is not available on the Italian App Store. It seems that, at least for the time being, only the UK gets the app in Europe...

Tried using it today. Found it to work pretty well, just seemed to take a while to do in between shots/holes. Also drained my battery a good 50% through 13 holes. If they could make it quicker to use during the round, I'd be happy. Just not sure how they could do it.

My battery was down to 12% at the end of my round, and that was with a full battery to start.

I liked the app a lot, especially the strokes gained numbers at the end. I may just bring a battery charger with me next time I use it.

Maybe they could link the app to a smart watch so you could just press a button on your wrist.  Or better yet, some sort of thingamajig that would plug into the end of your club that you could just scan and it would know what club you were using.

Has anyone had any success with customer support for MyRoundPro?  I tried to use the first version with the MS Band, but they mapped my course incorrectly (they mapped the 17th hole as the 17th and 15th, so the 15th is wrong).  I reported it using their online problem report at least 1/2 a dozen times, but they never responded and never fixed the mapping.  Really ticked me off as that was the only reason I bought the band.

So, I downloaded the app and it is still incorrectly mapped.

Edit: if at first..., I've logged another problem report and at least I got a immediate auto-reply message with a contact number.  I'll give them the 4 weeks and then call them when nothing has been done.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Ok. Used the app again and loved it. I turned off the location services for the app and it did not drain my battery more than normal use. I typically use my rangefinder for distance, so the GPS is not as important to me. Just manually put the shot distances in, and my battery won't die on me. Highly recommend it for stat keeping.

Does it distinguish between a shot from "rough" versus one from what Broadie calls "obstructed" or "recovery"? In other words, when you hit your tee shot into tree trouble does it charge that against the tee shots's Strokes Gained or against the second shot?

And if it does track each category separately, do you have to specify a shot as "recovery" manually or can it tell that from the GPS (unlikely IMO).
A sensible man will realize that the eyes may be confused in two ways---by a change from light to darkness or from darkness to light; and he will recognize the same thing happens to the soul.

Not automatically, but you can enter the lie and whether the shot is normal or difficult.

Well that's a major step forward from Game Golf or Arccos or some of the other pseudo-Strokes Gained apps out there!

Glad someone finally implemented that.

downloaded and decided to try it out last night. might have to play again on a full round as I tried it out on just 9 holes.

Pro's
  • stats. much more detail than any other free app out there. really like how it tracks strokes gained.
  • i like the way the holes are drawn out and defined on the screen with ability to zoom in anywhere.

cons:
  • boy did I have to mess with the phone a lot - pulling the phone out after every shot!
  • only distance was to center of green
  • not sure if it was because of a 9 hole round or not - but it logged my avg distances really inaccurately. for example: I played two tees up and was not hitting anything above my 4i as a practice round. I know distance the ball traveled was greater than the 135yds the app was saying I hit off the tee. my 8i? the app reported it as 90yds...I only hit my 8i once. I was on a par5 and at far behind the 200yd marker(the myroundpro gps said 250 to center of green) . I hit and found my ball near the 100yd marker does that sound like 90yds???
  • putting was cumbersome to get the putt to be right on where the pin was on the screen
  • I used a putter from the fringe and fairway in front of the green a few times - so I logged that I used my putter - app says I had 28 putts...
  • no apple watch support.

battery life wasn't terrible - started with around 60-70% and ended around 50 or so. I'm planning on trying it out for 18, but the stats feature doesn't outweigh the cons. just a clunky cumbersome app to use at this point. hopefully with a full round of use i'll get it and make it easier, but at this point, it will not be my go-to app.
