After watching and dissecting Hogan's swing and thinking about his equipment and how it had to be perfect, I started thinking...If Ben Hogan was in his prime today, what equipment would he use?

I thought it would be a fun what if to see all the answers.

Is it a given that he would play Hogan? I know it has his name on it, but how close do the current iteration of the clubs match what he played or had in mind when the company initially launched?   I have no idea what the answer is, but many founders of companies hate the product later on.  I don't know if Roger Cleveland hates what the company is now, but I would guess he prefers Callaway since he works there, right?

He'd be a Titleist player with maybe some Mizuno - the other manufacturers would be too flashy!

If Hogan was alive today, he'd be playing KMart specials at his local muni.

His game never would have stood up to today's courses and today's competition.

IMO, he's the most over-rated golfer in the history of the game.

First, I will tell you to duck, perhaps assume a fetal position.  The problem Hogan would have would be having enough money to survive until the first win.  It took him ten years to win his first, flirted with dead broke, he might have lost his card, then might have been teaching at Bent Wedge CC and RV Park.

I thought I read that Hogan only made Hogan clubs because he didn't feel there were actually quality clubs available. He would probably would have chosen Ping or Titleist today...

Interesting... so everyone on GolfWRX that hasn't been a tour winner of the "correct caliber" would be playing "KMart Specials" then? I'm not exactly sure I follow the logic on this one.

It is all hypothetical right? I think he would have loved the Ping Anser. I think he would have liked the Ping factory. And Ping would have made any club exactly how he wanted. I think the craftsmanship and ability to meet specs is what mattered to Mr. Hogan...

Would it matter, the way he hit it?  If you're hitting the same spot on the clubface time after time after time after time after time, does it matter if the sweetspot is pin size or dinner plate?

I don't know. I think that Hogan clubs from back in the day were built to be more forgiving than some of the other clubs at the time. The woods seemed a little wider than others. The irons had lower weighting and the leading edges were not as sharp. Fun conversation for sure. He would have been playing Hogans:)
