I recently purchased an epic 9* driver and shafted it with a Kaili.  I hit it great and it does what I want it to do; however, it is obnoxiously loud.  It sounds like the old Nike Sasquatch but not quite to that extreme.  I played with several people over the past week and they all commented on it.  I thought these were supposed to be nice and muted.  I have a hot melt gun and could put a couple grams of melt in it, but I recently did this to an M1 and it actually made it louder (put on the crown).

Anybody else have this problem, and if so, has anybody had any luck hot melting an Epic?  I have a swing weight of room I can tinker with.

I agree with Thunder.  Sounds like you got a lemon.  Take it back or send it to Callaway.  Mine is definitely muted and so are the Epics of two of my buddies.

My Epic suddenly also became louder, lost elevation, control only diving left and distance. I know it must be me :-)). However my GBB 3W was straight and about 30 yards longer with great height.

On testing using the wrench tool, I taped the center and it was hollow sounding, tapped around the perimeter of the face and it sounded like a rattle/loud vibration, much louder on the toe side. Obviously there is a crack somewhere.

Net Cally is replacing the 3 month old club. Great job by them. My guess, they have a more than few with issues. Only issue is its 7-10 days for replacement.

If it sounds funny or suddenly acts different, have someone look at it. Worst they can say is "lessons will help".

If you start hitting dive bomb hooks out of nowhere it is a tell tale sign that a crack is there somewhere.

That's the thing there are no performance issues.  It's performed the same since day 1, just loud.

Haha
I mean if you are normally hitting it well and then a dive bomb hook shows up out of nowhere accompanied by louder impact it usually a crack.

By dive bomb hook I don't mean a normal hook.. I mean a hook that drops out of the sky after a short flight when you feel like you nutted it

I went from 230-250 carry to not making more than 75 yds and 30* left and maybe 10+/- feet in height, roll out was OK :swoon:. I wear hearing aids but not on the course. Sounded like hitting it with one of my wife's aluminum pans and I had no trouble hearing it. Not one issue with any other club in my bag, well the putter is an old hag.

@JRR

I would say mine is louder than normal too. I hit the Epic Sub Zero a while back, and it sounded very soft and muted. I was actually pretty surprised by the sound. The Sub Zero fairway woods felt like that too. I now own the regular Epic driver and fairway woods, and I would say all of them have a louder and more "traditional" sound in comparison.

The fairway woods have a slight "ting" to them, but aren't loud in general. The driver certainly has it's louder moments, almost sounds like a baseball bat hitting a ball. It's definitely not Nike Sasquatch square driver loud (that thing was stupid), but it's not the muted sound of the Sub Zero.

Could it just be the different in models and head design offering different acoustics?

EDIT: I will add that I have no performance issues as well. The driver still gets out there with a 290-295 carry, decent role out too. Nothing out of the ordinary for performance. But I have debated going to a Sub Zero head for that better sound.

Out of the numerous Epic drivers I have in a demo bag...there is one head that is louder than them all. It is a 9 GBB and doesn't matter what shaft is in it but it sounds like a tin can. 1 out of 10 different heads..

I would warranty it because all of the other heads are muted like they should be with the jailbreak.

Mine has been in play for a couple months, and still sounds pretty muted to me. I would note that I'm coming from a G25 that I was embarrassed to hit at a crowded driving range due to its obnoxious loudness.

My issue is not the pure loudness of the Epic, rather the distinct change in level along with the performance. I actually bought the Epic because it sounded better than the Fusion which was more subdued to me. The bigger issue with sound is when tapping the face perimeter you can actually hear the rattle in the face.

I have a 9* standard as well and agree that it is louder than expected. It's way louder than my buddy's 10.5 standard, but, his is shorter than standard so it came with 2 weights, I thought that was the difference...

I thought about getting a second weight to see if it would make mine quieter.

It shouldn't be loud, but it is definitely louder than the subzero version. My head weighed 191 grams, which was way too light for my playing length of 44.5 inches.  Callaway added 9 grams of hot melt to the head to get it to my desired playing swing weight of D3, and it is now as quiet as the subzero, maybe even little more.
