Who writes the "dress code", Nike?

Collared polo type shirts have always seemed to be the status quo for clubs with a dress code. That is until Nike introduced their Fly Blade Polo. So, if it's sold in the ProShop, it's okay? So Nike is now setting the "standard"? Their Fly Blade looks little more than a Henley, or what's called a "fooler T". What if this Fly Blade was a Sears Arnold Palmer Collection, or Haggar model, would it fly at your club? As long as it's tasteful, and not a logo'd T-shirt, shouldn't it be considered acceptable?
Sorry to rant, but some things just work their way under my skin.
It is Friday, and 5 o'clock, maybe I just need a beer.

Collared polos have not always been the status quo.

Jacket and tie was once the status quo.  I believe ties were the status quo 100 years ago.  Fashion changes.  Don't think the blade polo will catch on, though.

Have a beer.  Watch the US Open.  Even it looks just like a routine golf tournament.

If it's good enough for Rory to wear in a USGA tournament, we mere mortals should be good to go with it, just like we were when Tiger wore the mock T.

I'm glad this came up! At my course I just learned these are unacceptable to wear on course or at the practice facilities. A young member just got one and was excited to wear it to the course, he was turned down by the pro because of the lack of a collar. He showed the pro many pictures of guys on the PGA wearing these and still refused to let him play. That being said I have seen guys wear jeans, cargo shorts etc. when it clearly states you cannot wear these at the courses facilities. I in fact love these shirts and have a few for a casual Friday dress wear. I do believe as times change there should be some leniency in the rules, apparel is funny but you don't see guys rocking the shirt tie and vest anymore.

Your course will allow jeans and cargo shorts but not blade collars? Did I read that right? Seems strange.

I read it as they don't officially allow jeans or cargo shorts but they didn't say anything to the folks wearing them.

I have a couple pairs of Greg Norman shorts that have a pocket down by the thigh.  I hesitate to wear them to ritzy courses should they break out the dress code and rulers to measure hemlines..

I don't mind the blade collar, but I am quite surprised at how heavily Nike promotes it. I have a couple shirts with it, and I like them a lot. I just wish Nike would have more players wear normal collars sometimes. If you didn't know it, you might think that's all they made now after watching TV.

Whenever someone is interested in buying a blade polo from my store something like this always comes up. While making the shirts, Nike sought the approval of USGA/PGA to ensure that they would be tournament approved. If these polos are good enough for Augusta they're good enough for your home club.

Do you really think Nike FORCES their staff to wear something? Pieters wears traditional collars as does Brooks. Sabbatini, Oleson, I could go on. If Nike forced their staff to wear stuff don't you think more people would be wearing their flagship shoe?

If I ordered for the pro shop I wouldn't order them, and if it were up to me I wouldn't allow them, or mock turtle necks, but that's just me.  Some folks think that golf's traditions hold it back.  Not me, it's part of what I like.

I was talking with a friend From the UK the other day and he said that his club held three meetings about the blade collar shirts. The club has always been a "collared shirt for men" private club. They decided that rather than be reactionary and have to decide every time something like these shirts or the mock tee become fashionable to change their dress code. They now allow anything that has become acceptable golf attire.

i work at my home golf club of 10 years and know 99% of the members but I still get funny Comments and looks for wearing blade collars and the jogger style trousers.
I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing the joggers to other courses however the tops I have never had a problem with.

I don't think they force them, but scriptings always tend to show blade polos. If you go on the website, the first ad is usually Rory and JD wearing the new shirts. I love them myself, I'm just surprised at how much they promote them.

The fact that ANGC doesn't fight Nike over the tournament dress code does not reflect their 'normal' dress code standards.  Not to mention a National course especially one with so little play isn't typically as restrictive.

Not that hard to follow a dress code.  When I'm a guest I know what side of that line I want to be on.  Ever been handed a jacket or a tie at a restaurant?

I don't mind others wearing them, but it's not a look I would bring to the course.  I'd feel like an idiot if I was told my attire wasn't appropriate and it would definitely start the day off on the wrong foot.  Much easier to be more conservative, especially when playing as a guest at a nice country club.

I do wish Nike would offer an option of blade/no blade for some of their better designed shirts.

I hope the trend fades away.

I don't mind the looks of the blade polo. Looks good.

I was always against the blade collar when I first saw it....

Bought one to try... loved the red fish ones at the Masters....

Used it yesterday at the 6th oldest golf club in the world and got told by a couple folk how nice it was...

Funny the 5 minute rule was first used there and it is under review to be replaced now....

I get the feeling that Koepka was like "I'm not going to let history show me as the U.S. Open winner who was wearing a Star Trek uniform when I won. Give me a collar"
