So close to that round.

Went out late on men's night and still crowded.  Tee off after 6 with the idea of 9-13 holes.

Tees set up further back then my normal tees (for instance 2 stretched to 210 from the usual 165).

Anyhow miss 4' par on two and 3 putt third.  Indifferent 4 and a double.  Then start  good run just missing 10' birdie on 5, an 8' par on six, but up and downs on 7&8 (including sand save!!) and finish with a 3-putt bogey on 9.....

Partner suggests we soldier on and I say why not.....  Indifferent 10 & 11.

Then a great run missing another lip out on a 6' birdie on 12, a 20' 2-putt par on 13, a bad swing and bogey on 14, birdie 6' 15 and just miss another 8' birdie on 17.  Been a long long time since I hit so many close and actually had birdie putts!!!!

So adds up to an 82 and like most golfers while happy, don't celebrate the great play, but lament the 3 putts and missed 3-4'ers.

Such is golf....

Reminds me of my round a couple weekends ago. Was doing great at +2 after 14 holes. Then we hit a wall of foursomes on 15, and ended up waiting 10-15 minutes on every shot. Was +7 on those last 4 holes for a total of +9. Woulda, coulda, shoulda....

The reason GOLFWRX exists, so I can replay rounds and wonder what could have been.

And another one.....  As per my recent thread a great driving round.  A great pitch from beside the green on one stops 2" short and almost a birdie, birdie putt on two looked like it would fall......

I'll spare the details but a # of good chips from just off the green to under 6' and all well struck putts that grazed the hole or lipped out (not one that was a yip or short).  One bad chip and a double.  A three putt too and 35 putts for an 81.....  Could have probably not shot much higher.

But excited for the next time.

Two weeks ago I showed up for league just in time to load up and get to our first hole.  Hit a pull draw deep into cow pasture OB, and finished the hole with a triple.
After that fiasco, I played out of my mind and reeled off 6 pars and 2 birds +1 for the nine. I've never shot under par for 9, but this was one time that I coulda, shoulda.

Same thing with me.  Currently doing coursework for a PhD so I don't have a ton of time to play lately.  I played Friday for the first time in probably close to a month, but I've been hitting balls in a sim at work 2 days a week.  Anyway, had the push/block miss with the tee clubs for a good portion of the round, which is super weird for me.  Irons were pretty thin and just not hit well either.  Wedges were gross, with huge blocks (how in the F do you block a wedge??? hahaha).  But my saving grace was my putting and pitching was alright.  Managed to scrape together an 85, had two really solid birdies and a good stretch from 6-9 where I was even par.

But it keeps me coming back knowing that if I can fire an 85 with nothing going right, I probably have a few sub-80s in me.  I'm getting out probably only once more this year in a little over a week, so wish me luck haha.

I feel your pain.

I shot an 83 today. Those two triple bogeys on usually relatively easy holes for me, a 3 putt on the first hole, and a missed 6 foot birdie on 18 really pain me to think about.

Woulda, shoulda, oughta been 75-78 and the best round of the year/ever.
