I am pretty sure Scotty doesn't pay a single dime for anyone playing a Scotty Cameron brand putter.  I believe Acushnet/Titleist/who ever owns the Scotty Cameron brand pays for play.  That's the way it's been for years.  Acushnet wanted the #1 putter on tour, as well as other clubs.  All the manufacturers do.  Why, because the manufacturers know the average "Joe" will buy what's the #1 on tour even though most average "Joes" cannot play what the pros play.  Figuratively and literally.

Ping... why buy the copy when you can buy the original... for less.
I'm sorry but IMO, modern Ping's are awful. One forgettable line after another. If Cameron released a Newport that looks like some of the recent Anser's they would be flamed from every direction.

Them being the original is about the one thing they have over Cameron.

And I own no Cameron's and a ton of old Ping putters.

Yeah.  I've always wanted to like Ping putters, but over the last 20 years only the Redwood or milled line felt good to my hands.

Cameron got to where he is because of Tiger Woods. If Tom Kite wins the '97 Masters and we never hear of Tiger Woods, Scotty Cameron is just another brand. Yes the company makes quality putters. I have an old 'Art of Putting' Newport and its a fine putter. But when you have a rockstar burst onto the scene the way Woods did, everybody wants to know what he used to do it and they wanna use what he used.

Yeah I would agree with this.  Cameron's were gaining popularity back then, but Tiger gaming one for so long was key.  Phil and Duval had one in the bag for many years too.  Those were the formative years for the brand.  And Scotty owes the 3 of them alot back then for the exposure his putters got.  That said, there was no HD tv back then and you couldn't tell what someone was putting with unless it was obvious, like a Tei3 or something.

View PostT-MAC, on 23 June 2017 - 12:38 PM, said:

Actually, the Edwin Watts near me has the Betti's locked in a case and the Cameron's on the floor so you can demo them.  Not sure if that proves anything about the putters or their companies, but not sure what you were trying to prove by that comment either.

It's the opposite at my store (Charleston SC).  The Scotty's are locked up.  They're quick to unlock the case though.

A good putter is worth as much or more than a good driver, yet we don't think twice about spending $400-$500 for the big stick.

Yeah, you use the putter more than any other single club in the bag.  By far.  Honestly that's how I justify many purchases.  Clothing for example.  I'll pay whatever for the right pair of jeans, because I'll wear them damn near every day.  Thus cost averaging them out to being cheap per wear.  Camerons are the same.  I can't make that justification for cars though.  lol

My Newport oilcan AOP 33/350 is still in the bag since the day it was new, I rotate a few putters but this is a staple in the gamer bag. I wish he still made them like the old days.

Like almost everybody I am not a fan of the look of the new stuff only the earlier lighter traditional stuff. That being said I just sold my Longneck Tei3 because the 5s I found does not miss I side 5". Compared to the Tei3 the 5s feels like a soulless, dead on the inside road whore that I really don't get any pleasure from putting with. But, it doesn't miss the par savers, I feel like I sold out.

I feel that anyone can play a putter the pros use. It is not like the other clubs in their bag. I haven't seen an xs shaft in putters, but their could be some in WRXers bags. In fact I would go so far as to say the pros are now using what the amateurs are using.

LMAO, very Nicely Played😂👍

I was gonna post the 62 however I'm down to 16.5K worth of picture space so I inquired as to if I bought a second membership I could get the attachment space that comes with it.

I was Nicely told that I should thank God above that they one, gave me the first membership, Two, haven't yanked it from my gnarly arse and three, I should quit asking stupid questions ;)

So I've gotta go in and delete some old pics, lol

I wonder  if they'd get pissed if I asked if I could have some of Madison's pic space as she never posts any and has a ton, haha??

I'm probably better off just deleting some pics, lmao.

Stay well Bro & have a great day👊

Always,

You would be 100% incorrect. Anyone who plays a cameron gets tee up money. There is also a bonus for a win. Please don't try and tell me something else as this is straight from a current touring pro. There is also a bonus for consecutive weeks played with a Cameron. He makes some pretty cool putters but you're kidding yourself if you think those guys are not paid to play them.

Scotty will be fine as he makes fine products. With that being said I'm not a fan of the newer SC's due to the insert. His best putters was the completely milled face without the insert which I think ended in 2014. That's why you see all of the best putters on tour like Speith using an old SC.

He has made some headway with the futura line but I look at SC like I do the Pro V1. He makes excellent products but I think the rest of the companies have caught up like balls have caught up to the Pro V1.

Mallets are just a fade like the tour spider putter. The only player still using it is Rahm. Day, Johnson, Garcia have all moved on. The best putters in the game still roll blades. You are seeing more and more players go to blades now as well like Dustin Johnson.

I personally feel the Ping Vault Anser 2 or Voss is a better putter than  the new SCs for a cheaper price or if you could get your hands on a TP Juno Milled prototype like Dustin Johnson's. The pure roll insert is meh on the retail Juno's.

I've seen the same Circle T putters going round and round on the bay since the first of the year. Now that the #1 golfer in the world is not using them and the cameras show different putters in the hands of the top players they are not so desired to bring those lofty ridicules prices. JMHO Now that I trashed the 3,4,5K+ prices for Circle T putters I will be called a Cameron hater. That would be totally inaccurate. It's the prices, not the man nor his putters. Also I don't do inserts so the new ones don't even get a look.

Agreed about the inserts, I hardly see them when I am out playing, and never on tour.

Anyone know what Scotty's revenues are annually and if they are in fact down?  That could shed some light on the original question.

Fall of the Berlin Wall.

Fall ball.

Bugger me!! I never thought I would ever see any 'Blank verse' on WRX.

It reminds me of a story concerning Samuel Johnson when he read an unsolicited manuscript that had been sent to him for review. He replied " I find your work both original and amusing. Unfortunately, the parts that are original are not amusing and the parts that are amusing are not original"

Not a reflection on your fine work though bro - which, if read acrostically, reflects your opinion on this thread I take it (which I am sure was 100% intended!) :-)
