I'm looking for a utility/driving iron that I would use mostly off the tee but would like to be able use off the turf. I tried the Apex UT, which was great off the tee but I found it a little difficult to get great contact off the turf. Am hoping to try something that has a little slimmer sole for good turf interaction but doesn't sacrifice performance off the tee. Obviously the tmb and UDI are possibilities but curious what other clubs people have tried and liked. Would also consider a 3i from a set like AP1 or Z565. Let me know. Thanks

For better turf interaction, you'd better start thinking fatter soles, e.g., a hybrid, like a Cobra F7.

I have a speedblade 4 iron and a rocketbladez 3 iron. They're a bit thick on the top line and you have to be aware of the extra offset, but they are so easy to hit and stupid long.

Took me a bit, but I am loving my u45 20*.  I haven't found it to be so great out of the rough, but have had great luck with it everywhere else.  It's long off the tee and feel is superb.

Another one that is nice, with a more narrow sole, is the Honma.  Buddy of mine has one and it seems to perform really well without looking too chunky.

I just picked up a used '17 M1 3i with a Modus 120 X-flex for a steal at the nearby roger Dunn. It actually looks really nice at address. Chunky and DI-like, but still compact size wise, and not much offset at all. I can't wait to get on the range.

I'm using a covert forged 3i with a 100 x proto by you it's great off the tee and turf however I am debating a lower launching shaft but I like the head for sure and you can find them relatively cheap. I have a vrs forged 3 iron also but I'm not using that one

The Callaway Prototype Utility has the thinnest sole on any driving iron I've played. The scalloped grind makes it effectively like a Mizuno blade when considering turf interaction. Think extreme heel/toe/trailing edge relief.

Yes, I was fooling myself and just switched to a Cobra F7 Hybrid.  Now we're talking easy.

MP H5 2 or 3 iron work well for me off fairway.  I can hit them high and very forgiving iron.  T-MB also is good iron from turf on demos I have done.

I kinda disagree with the guys saying go for something with a winder sole in a driving iron. I have a 712U in my bag and I have tried the T-MB and I just don't think they are giving me much when the ball is on the deck.

They are ok, but if my 3 iron was a club I was hitting off the deck a lot, I think I would be going with something with a narrower sole. My saying that could be down to the fact that I am playing either on a heathland or links course of course.
