Have there been any legit jacked golfers? And don't say KJ Choi or Lee Westwood.

Now, being fit, strong, and supple is certainly a good thing, but heavy weights and adding bulk is not helping these guys.

Who says that adding some bulk and lifting some heavy weights are inconsistent with strength, suppleness and general fitness? I feel like this impression of Rory as some meathead is almost entirely a result of the way he's often marketed.

Which mostly seems to stem from two commercials that show him lifting some weights and working out in them and the fact that he wears form fitting clothing. But whatever, ya can't fix stupid.

Yep, you dont get strong without lifting heavy and just because you lift heavy weights doesnt mean you are adding bulk. There are 120-130lb girls who can likely lift heavier than a lot of the guys on tour

Is anyone aware of a single division 1 program that doesn't have their golf team on a stringent weight training and strength and conditioning program? Seems like a barrier to entry in high level division 1 and pro golf now not a hinderance. So many guys coming out carrying the ball 310+. No person can look at Rory's swing from when he was a newb on tour to now and make the case the lifting hasn't helped. Guy was hyper mobile in a bad way, would get in crazy positions with arms extremely behind him and you just knew the 80 yard hook was coming at anytime. Swing now looks much more stable, compact, and repeatable day in and day out. Also much more neutral to work the ball both ways.

Why is Rory picked on? Just the top ranked golfer that openly videos himself doing weights and affiliation with Nike/Tiger. Never hear anyone claiming Stallings, Kokrak, Jhonny Vegas, Koepka, Woodland, Grayson Murray, etc. are too jacked.

There's absolutely no correlation between tiger putting on more muscle and having back issues....maybe he swings too hard or not good at managing injuries. Skinny guys get bad backs...perhaps the muscles kept him healthier longer....oh people its all individual and Rory looks soft in that beach pic lol!

You're insane.  Johnny Miller knows more about golf that pretty much the whole freaking planet.  He was the best golfer in the world from 73-75 . .gimme a break
I'm with you on Brandel but he is paid to opine and stir the pot, so he get's a pass of some sort

It's also a different game today than it was back then

You're right.  It was more difficult back then.

And Rors was the #1 golfer in the world for nearly 2 years straight and has 4 majors at 28 compared to the 2 Johnny Miller had his whole career. so if that's your criteria then Rors is twice the golfer Johnny ever was.

And maybe Johnny is a knowledgeable guy, but he certainly doesn't come across as one the way he speaks these days.

Tiger might be the closest?

Probably won't happen though because it takes so much time and effort to get "jacked" and also become a pro golfer. Plus genetics plays a huge role. Many golfers are just not naturally big and strong... They tend to be lankier and leaner, just like most pro football players tend to be lean and muscular, naturally. Rory could probably quit golf and go lift for 5 years straight and we wouldn't see him push too much over the 180lb mark unless he went on drugs.

However, look at guys like DJ. This guys forearms are unreal and super ripped. Is he a body builder with traps up to his ears? No... But why should he be? His body is in an elite condition to hit a golf ball 300+ yards, not lift heavy a** weights.

I don't understand why it bothers anyone what these guys do?  What would we all do to pass the time?  I met Rory and L. Donald...and then Quiros.  Alvaro was almost 2 people compared to the others mentioned.

Should we not all worry..if we must...why they make using a putter so difficult?

Equipment.  You think Jason Day would be hitting a 13 degree blade with a steel shaft and an inconsistent ball?  He wouldn't even think to do it.  Equipment has changed the game.

So? EVERYONE has access to the same equipment. Just like they all played the same equipment in the 70s. If everyone is playing the same equipment then the playing field is just as level as it's always been.

It's not about being "jacked".    It's about maintaining flexibility.

"Jacked" can be plenty flexible and "loose".

Google image search for NFL punters Jon Ryan and (retired) Steve Weatherford.

Hell, look at gymnasts, both male and female.   (Female image search highly recommended)

TV distorts a lot. Seeing Jason Day in person he was much smaller than I realized, he's just got a tiny waist so on TV that (and his tight shirts) make him look a lot more jacked that he really is. That's also true of Tiger (tho not as much as Day).

Rory actually looks like a better athlete in person than on tv. he doesn't looked so much jacked as having a lot of functional strength with thicker legs etc. More like a 2d baseman and very much the opposite of sthg you'd call glamour muscles.

Miller's choking schtick can be tiresome but he knows the game and was a great player. He had quite a few runaway victories back in the day. He could knock down the flags with his irons better than anyone.

I was at one tour event in my life and was surprised how much smaller the pro's looked.   I stood about 10 ft from Tiger and compared to the way he looks on TV he was tiny.  I do not think anyone on tour is jacked...   Vejay was big... so was Angel Cabrera...

I don't know...  a 5'9" middle infielder?   :drinks:

There's an exception to every rule.  There's probably an exception to the "exception to every rule" rule, too.
