Have an upcoming family trip to The Carolinas and was planning on checking The Ocean Course at Kiawah off my bucket list. But, much to my horror, it looks like they're aerating the greens the week before we'll be there.

For those that have played it... would you still recommend it with punched greens? I'd only consider it if they discount the rate a little bit, which they may not even be willing to do.

I wouldn't pay full price for a round there with punched greens, but I was there this winter right after Christmas on their winter stay & Play special (amazing deal!) and the course was in great shape. if it's a once in a life time type trip and this is your only chance to play it, I would have to seriously think about it, but if you can get there some other time or take advantage of their winter deal, I'd save it for another time.

I would never pay to play a course like Kiawah on punched greens.

My rule is:

1st week: Never.
2-3rd week: Only if I'm really hard up to play.  And if I do, I don't keep score and don't really putt.
4th week: It's usually pretty close to done around here, so business as usual.

And if I do play punched greens, it's only at the Super Twilight rate.

Thanks for your replies!

Anyone ever successfully convinced a course to delay the aeration for a week? ;)

Sounds like I should probably sit it out... anyone had any experience at either Oak Point or Turtle Point? Those are the only two non-punched options.

Honestly, if it's a discounted rate (and only if it's a solid discount) I would probably say screw it and would play it.  Especially if you aren't planning on being back in the area.  If, however, you are planning on getting back to the area than I would skip it.

Take the discounted rate, increase your gimme range and enjoy the day

Only if it may be your only chance of playing it within x number of years, and then only extremely discounted!!!
I live on one of the lesser known islands a few miles from Kiawah and it's that time of the year in our locale.  Verticut and punch being in season at the moment.

Oak is a great course in my opinion. Pales in comparison to the ocean obviously but it is good. I like it better than turtle.

This first punch of the year usually heals pretty quickly but a week probably won't be enough time

Call them and ask them about reduced fees for that week.
