No more Par 72 US Opens, Dump 3 man booths, admit Holly Sonders and her skin tight outfits are a disaster. A weekend of good but boring golfers. Ah the post Tiger era is upon us.. looks very similar to the pre Tiger era. Better but still boring personality golfers..

Holly without her skin tight outfits would be spectacular.  With them, she is just wonderful.

Tiger who?

Caddies are only "mandatory" if you aren't physically capable of walking up and down 8+ miles of hills over sandy terrain while carrying a bag of clubs on your back. I doubt more than a tiny fraction of punters tote their own clubs.

Only reason I see for the low scores is the greens held much better than usual at a U.S. Open & I think that was probably by design. The course was such an unknown the USGA probably erred on the side of caution with the firmness of the greens. When the U.S. Open comes back (& I think it will & should come back) the greens will likely be firmer & the scores more in line with what we normally see.

They also had lots of rain which softened the greens.  Nothing the USGA can do about that.  And I think it made for a better tournament.

If you remember correctly, during Thursday's first round the greens were beginning to show some speed and firmness.  This was aided by a relative humidity of around 55%, which is somewhat low for Wisconsin in June.

If the humidity had stayed there, or even lowered, the green complexes would've been quite scary, and scoring would've certainly gone up.  We all remember what happened at Shinnecock Hills in 2004.

By Saturday, however, Erin Hills had received at least two inches of rain, and the relative humidity had climbed to 75%.

- Fair as in totally negating skill and turning the tournament into a putting contest.

You're in homer land.  $260 for Erin Hills?  No one with more brains than money would ever waste their dollars on this piece of crap.  There's courses within 60 miles of every person on this forum that are nicer than Erin Hills for 1/4 of the price.  The general public turned on the TV to see a US Open, they got a very watered down British Open course with few hazards and no wind.  They shut their TVs off.  Worst. Open. Ever.

Wow!  sounds like you are having a really bad day.  Are you sure you were watching the MEN'S US OPEN?

The course was great and beautiful and the greens were true.  It was a tough test and kicked the butts of McIlroy, Day, Johnson, Rahm, Rose, Dufner, Scott, etc.  The course demands accurate driving, crisp irons, a huge variety of shots around the greens and obviously great putting.

Everyone I know watched it until the end.  If you didn't, you missed a great tournament.

And oh BTW, I will be up there playing EH next summer with a bunch of my golf buddies.  $260 is a bargain.

sekrah's problem is he needs a better TV.

The field finished a collective 538 strokes OVER par.  Guess it really was a simple course.  Maybe some people would have preferred to watch the guys who didn't play well as opposed to those that did?

And if Day, McIlroy, Johnson, Rose, Rahm and Scott had played the weekend the total would have been 750 over par.

When we were there, a lot carried their own actually.  They completely regretted it, but they did it.

We stayed in Room 11 - which is on the bottom floor and occupies the entire side of the lodge nearest the putting green.  The door you saw players entering to sign their scorecard went directly to our living room, and the players signed their cards in the bedroom.

Anyway...everyone walked right by our room after their round, and it was comical to see these young guys who thought they were in shape come dragging a** in when the round was over, looking like they were about to die - while older, seemingly out of shape guys had huge smiles on their faces.

Personally, besides just the wear and tear of carrying my own bag - the caddies made the experience there even better.  I'd recommend spending the extrea cash to anyone who plays there.

Heard a guy on PGA Tour radio during the drive home saying the weather was pretty typical for June in Wisconsin. July is dry and the course would've played like a U S Open. Unfortunately, they can't play it in July, so it's doubtful to be back.

I have a different feeling about it.  I suspect that most of the players, and the folks at the USGA, were perfectly satisfied with Erin Hills and the way this U.S. Open came off.

One of the positives about Erin Hills is its size.  It's a large property with plenty of room to do things.  You really have a lot of latitude in setting the course up.

I think the USGA will listen to any criticism and make the necessary adjustments.  I would bet we'll see another U.S. Open at Erin Hills sometime in the next 15 years.

Erin Hills is a course that needs the right combination of weather conditions to play like a traditional, brutish US Open sort of test (same can be said for nearly all major venues).  That didn't happen this week, and if they get another Open it would be pretty likely that weather would again not allow for the course to play as firm and fast as the USGA and other traditionalists would have hoped when you consider June weather trends in Wisconsin.  However, the property does allow for the USGA to run an event that is very successful financially (unlike places like Merion) which makes it more likely that the Open will be brought back there.

While I understand the critiques to an extent, it's hard to ignore that the winning formula at Erin Hills was identical to that of Oakmont the previous year.  Tough to argue that EH didn't identify the clearly superior performer just like Oakmont did, and both won with practically identical approaches to the game.  So can Erin Hills really be as bad as some would have us believe?  Not hardly.

Also, due to the athletic revolution that's swept through professional golf over the last 20 years, I think the days of relatively high winning scores being a regular happening at the US Open are a thing of the past.  The more players in the field that have the sort of firepower that Koepka and others have, the more likely that one or more of them is going to have a hot week with driver and putter which makes lower scores inevitable.

My favorite part of the US Open was JB Holmes saying the length would negate the advantage of long hitters, that #18 was so long NOBODY would be reaching it in 2.

Meanwhile, a bunch of people were getting there with 3 wood/3 wood.
