These are polar opposites, however I don't think either would disappoint you.

My favorite shoe period is the FJ Icon. I have walked many rounds in multiple styles of Icons and have never had a single foot issue. To get the traditional icon shoe you go through the My-Joy department where you find about every option possible to get a custom fit shoe order a different size for each foot, multiple width options..etc. FJ even offers a custom foot analysis to determine what shoe type is best for your foot/game.

My next suggestion is purely off observation. Two guys in my men's club recently purchased Sketchers Golf shoes and both say they are the best golf shoe they have ever worn and I know they are available up to a double wide. They are not going to over impress in the style department, but from what I am told they are very comfortable and offer very good stability for the golf swing.

The Icons are going to run between $270-$300 and I believe the Sketchers are around or just under a $150. For what it's worth I have Icons that are nearly 10 years old that still look and perform like new and have easily over 100 rounds on them.

A toss in would be the Adidas Tour 360 Boost. I love them for walking and the  Adidas have become the only pair of shoes other than the Icons I will where Adidas typically run narrow, so even a wide may not be the best fir for you, but from a comfort standpoint they may be worth a try.

If you can do it, find some TW13's.

Best shoe I've ever owned for walking the course. Put on 250+ rounds on mine before the waterproofing finally leaked.

Wide toe box.

I search continuously for them on eBay and I've tried a LOT of shoes. Icons. Biom Hybrid 2's, Dryjoys, TW14's (2nd place btw), Skechers, Ashworths, Adipures, FJ Hyperflexes. I'll take the TW13's please.

Footjoy Freestyle...incredibly comfortable and this coming from a 6'3 290lb guy...who loves to walk...just need to try them on first as I normally wear 13 wide but in these shoes I actually wear a 12 wide...

I'm 99% sure Ecco does not have a wide option they just tend to run on the wide side. I've had a few Ecco golf shoes and dress shoes and it's been hit or miss for me.

Same...when you find a pair that fits they are great...but a unicorn may be easier to find...

I tried a pair of regular size13 Ecco on at Golf Galaxy.  Nice looking shoes, but they were nowhere near wide enough.

My pick would be the new DNA Helix - super comfy with lost of toe box room and a great stable platform.

I apologize if I am jumping in the middle of a conversation, but I felt both the Helix and the Original DNA ran a half size larger than typical Foot Joys. My FJ Icons are all a 11.5 however my DNAs were a 11. The Leather in the DNA is very soft and I credit this as a possibility to the larger fit. I tried on the Helix and it fits very similar to the original DNA however I feel it offered more support and a wider/lower base. I always felt elevated in the DNA and I didn't have that feeling in the Helix. The new shoe looks very similar to the past two models, but it is evolving in the right direction in my opinion. As far as size the Icon Black was also about a half size larger than the MyJoy/original I cons I waer so this may be the sizing FootJoy has gone to across all lines.  I wear a 11.5M in Adidas Boost 360, and FootJoy Icons.

Given the state of affairs they should be on sale as well.  For those who recommend Ecco do they fit true to size?  My toe length is shorter than arch length and most shoes just don't fit right where my ball of foot sits in the shoe.

That's EXACTLY what I was looking for, thanks!  My original DNA's were at least 1/2 size smaller and narrower than every other pair I wore.  I was 10.5M & had to go 9.5W in the DNA's.  I ordered a pair today in 10M so fingers crossed but it sounds like I might be having to make an exchange....

I bought a pair of New Balance 3001. Bought them, wore them right out of the box and walked 18 holes at Whistling Straits. I have a similar shoe size and I could wear mediums.

I used to work for Ecco about 12 years ago when I was in college and the golf line was just getting started.  This was before Fred Couples wore the spikeless shoes that put them on the map.

From a fit standpoint, Ecco in general run wider in the toe box.  The emphasis was that their molds are meant to fit snug in the heel allowing your toes to naturally spread when you walk as opposed to restricting them.  This leads to a naturally wider toe box.

From a comfort standpoint, they believed in better arch support to alleviate pressure from your heels which is connected to knee pain, back pain, etc.

From what I remember, everything they did in a shoe was well thought out.  Not using adhesives to attach gore tex lining as it hinders breathability... fusing the soles to the uppers to create a tighter seal while being more flexible...

Again, this was over a decade ago so their business model may have changed, but unlikely.  Hope this helps.  Good luck

The FJ Pro SL is the most comfortable show I have ever walked in and have been playing for 40+ years. I am a big Icon guy and also think Ecco shoes are wonderful. I don't think the Pro SL is the best looking shoe, but when I saw all the tour guys wearing it I decided to try them out and am completely hooked. I see more and more guys switching to them too. They have a winner with that one.

I have a pair of Biom spikeless, which are nice.  However, hands down the most comfortable walking shoe I've owned is the Air Max 90.  TW13s are second, TW14s are third, and Biom falls after all three.  I will say I think I got the Bioms maybe a half size too big, but if your walking in an environment that can handle the mesh I think the Air Max 90s are tough to beat.

The pair that I ordered from the MyJoys website showed up. They're narrow. The right shoe (13W) feels like a 13R and the left (13XW) feels like a narrow-ish 13W. They're nowhere near as wide as the off-the-shelf pair of 13W Footjoys that I've been using. I'll have to contact them and see what they can do about it. Pretty disappointed...In my experience, Footjoy shoes tend to be generous in the width department.

Man I'm sorry.  Once returned 3 pairs in a row with Footjoy because they weren't wide enough... and I wear up to 14 or 15 and have a hell of a time with shoes.  I've moved on to other brands.

Yeah...I'm going to have to just give sketchers golf shoes a try (if I can find a wide pair).  Theirs are about the only shoes I can even get my feet into.

Edit: I just called and spoke with a FootJoy rep.  Apparently the Professional series runs narrow, as does the Icon.  It was nice of them to note that on their website (sarcasm).  She suggested the Contour series. Oh, and to speed up the process...I was told that I could place a second order and THEN return the old pair in that box, lol.

Oh...and I get to pay to ship them back, lol. $235 f*****g dollars on a pair of shoes that don't fit like the previous two pairs of FootJoy shoes I own and I have to pay to send them back.

I wear 13w and I will say she's right about footjoy contours.  Very comfy.
