Going down to South Myrtle Beach in mid- July with my girlfriends family. I'm the only golfer going so I'll be a single. I'm looking to play twice. I have 3 questions: 1) Will I have any trouble booking as a single? I prefer to be paired with a group. 2) Suggestions on courses? Any must see courses within 30 minutes of south Myrtle? 3) What should I expect to pay? Thanks!

Caledonia and True Blue are always top choices on the south side. They usually have a combo package special.

Would imagine if you're not picky about times you'll be able to get on with a call at the worst, if not online.

How brutal will it be playing True Blue and Caledonia in mid August? What is the area around those courses like? What are the major differences between North and South Myrtle?

It does have houses on a few holes. They are not all over the course. Maybe 6 holes or so. From what I remember the houses are a good ways back from the fairways. Solid track though.

Quite brutal. The heat and humidity will be manageable (IMO) if you stay hydrated, get into some shade whenever possible, dress appropriately and assuming you're in decent health and accustomed to being out in the heat.

The bugs are probably going to be incredibly brutal. This has been a very warm winter and wet spring. As bad as the bugs are getting already and knowing what they've been like the last couple July trips I made to the beach, this year in August would be a no-go for me.

I suspect there will be a fine between enough DEET to keep from being eaten alive and enough to kill you from DEET poisoning. But seriously, the bugs will be worse than the heat unless you happen to go during a 104F heat wave.
A sensible man will realize that the eyes may be confused in two ways---by a change from light to darkness or from darkness to light; and he will recognize the same thing happens to the soul.

If regards to golf courses there are great courses all over the grand strand. If you looking for nightlife I would recommend central myrtle beach.

1. Playing as a single will be easy and since you want to play with other golfers even easier.
2. You have Prestwick, Caledonia, True Blue, TPC, Blackmoor, Litchfield, and River Club. The first 4 you are looking at 100 per, the rest it will go down.

Caledonia and True Blue will be hot in August, played it before at that time of year. If you drink plenty of water days before your round and Gatorade during round you will be fine. Stay out of sun as much as possible and sun screen is a must. I am playing Caledonia and Prestwick this year and look forward to it both are great courses that are challenging.

Hit me up if either of you have other questions.

Yes, I agree, but the conditions were horrid when we played it. Worst out of 15 courses played in MB. Have they gotten that place turned around?

Played it years ago and the course was in great shape. I am not sure how the conditions are. Playing there in a few weeks. Hopefully the course is in good shape. If not I will walk off the course and find somewhere else to play... Too many courses in MB to play in crappy conditions.

It's getting to be that time of the year, heat, humidity, bugs and pop up showers.  Be prepared no matter where you decide to play.
