Weird request I know but I suck with Ping Anser style putters and found a mallet gave me a solid 'feel', but any mallets with inserts and I end up mishitting and the putt is a 'clunk' (hard to explain) and never ever sounds like a good hit and even feels like a mishit.

I have an Odyssey #7 fang and its hit or miss if I hole anything.

So I'd like recommendations (ideally from anyone who feels similar) for a blade (non mallet) putter with a high MOI to give me a consistent solid feel.

Not Seemore and not Scotty Cameron please as bombed with both.

I like the extended flange models like the Piretti Cottenwood II or the BB28 of which I have both the SS and the carbon. I got hooked on the Spider DJ and tried my best to use it but our greens are just too slow for long putts with that putter. My point is I got thrown off of using a blade due to using a mallet. So some intense practice green time with these putters seems to have make a difference. I also was using a SC Squareback to get the blade feel back. All seems to be ok now for me and I hope your putting stroke comes around.

Look for something that is made of softer alloy, with no insert.  May need to go back in time, if you're looking for something from the bigger brands.  Otherwise look into custom made from the smaller companies

Long neck is an Anser style head, but with a longer neck to make it face balanced.

The PING TR Anser 1966 remake(image attached) that came out last year. I have a slightly slower putting stroke than average and most insert putters feel off and "clunky" as you mentioned. The putter has a lovely, solid feel as it has a steel face, not an insert. I also think for a blade, it has a relatively high MOI. Posted Image

I know you said no Scotty, but I play a fastback & really like it.

You may want to try & look at a blade that has minimal toe weight.

Try to look for those that are center weighted.

Ping makes the 5 series in many putters that have a longer neck and are face balanced. I have a Ping Zing 5 that is kind of the best of both worlds.

bettinardi has several things i think fit thre bill... try to find a SS9 ( just google or search on ebay  bettinardi ss9 and youll find it ) ..... same prifile as a blade , but just a wider body and more perimeter weighting..  you arent going to get the feel of a blade from anything though .. especially a mallet that has an insert....

Sounds to me like you are asking for a TP Mills 'Fleetwood' - beautiful putter and just what you are looking for.

I just made a similar switch from a Odyssey White Hot 9 mallet to a blade because I want/need better feel in my contact.

I ended up going with the Cleveland Huntington beach #4 because of the soft feel and the roll that the knurled face gave me. I was going to switch to the Ping but once I picked up the Cleveland I was sold.

The Ping B60 is a good shape that blends between those lines. Could be had for cheap in some of the older models.

I always loved the look of a blade in my hands but wanted something a bit more stable and forgiving. Ordered a Bettinardi Queen Bee #9 this spring and it is going to be my forever putter. It's magical.

I have been using my mallet putter at 343g at 34.5" with 60g grip, and it seems to be a good compromise between the stability of a mallet on short putts and the distance control of a blade on long putts.  I could not get good distance control with a heavier putter head.  It is less stable for short putts, but still more stable than my anser was with similar or better distance control.

I got a putting fitting yesterday for the first time in a while and while I previously feel between a slight arc and straight back straight through, I now appear to have zero arc so I think I'm going to a bench this putter for a while and go for a mallet.
Having said that, the pop off the face is so solid yet not too firm isn't it? The sound slot gives it a lovely click as well. If you would rather a sight line, the TR 1966 Anser 2(image below of them side by side) also came out at the same time. It's not the exact same specs and feel but it's quite similar. It's a steel colour, is slightly more square and boxier in shape, has a sightline and has no sound slot. I personally preferred the golden Anser with the sound slot but it could be worth exploring before you make a purchase.

I've been a mallet guy my whole life because blade putters always felt light and never balanced no matter how much lead tape I used...

Last April, I was in GG on lunch break just messing around and I picked the PingTR PAL of the rack and I couldn't miss! I figured it was just by chance it felt good that day & they had their cups funneled to drain them. I didn't buy it but anytime in the next few weeks when I went to a golf shop or demo days I tried it and my putting was better everytime. I finally bought it and the thing has been sooo money for me in the past 14 months. I don't think it's leaving the bag anytime soon. It's basically an Anser but that extra weight by the cavity makes the balance and weight feel glorious to me.

Give it a shot I think you'll like it.

I have a 2016 NP2, the Scotty's with the insert and although they get a lot of hate around here, I think it is a great feeling blade.  But, like you, I do not do so well with a blade.  I stumbled on a GoLo s5, center shafted mallet.  Thought I would be bringing it back in no time and it has completely changed my game.  I know you said no Scottys but I just had to throw this out there.  It will let you know when you mis hit it but putts still go where they are aimed.  Cant say enough good things about this putter.  I never thought too much about a putter being the right fit, but I have now seen how much of a difference the right putter can make once you find it.

Ok. FYI, I got an old PAL in my club stash and its wayyy lighter and more balanced... to me, it doesn't feel anyhting like the TR Pal even if I add lead tape. The TR Pal is like a thick, brick mallet disguised as a blade to me.

I've got a great Studio Stock 15 by Bettinardi as my back up and it is a mallet that is closer to a blade feel. Look that up...couple years old so you can find a good deal now too

Scotty Cameron Catalina and the Ping Anser X are face balanced because they have a double bend shaft. Both are insert free. I've had one or the other in the bag 95% of the time for the last 15 years. I no longer have the Anser, but I believe the Catalina has a considerably larger head.
