I'm looking for some putter recommendations as I replace my Studio Stainless Newport 2. It definitely needs to be a blade putter and I prefer not having an insert. I'm not opposed to another Scotty, but would like a similar style and quite honestly something a little less mainstream while staying around the Scotty price point. I've looked a little at Piretti Potenza and like it, but wondering if there are other suggestions from this knowledgeable group.

Thanks in advance.

Seems like you're describing your present Scotty.

Maybe describing my current one, but want something newer than 15 years old. The new Scotty's IMO aren't as good as the older ones. With that in mind, looking to try a new brand. I've had some Miura suggestions, but that's about it. I know that there are a ton of Scotty fans, but can't believe there aren't some smaller brands a lot of folks haven't heard about that aren't just as good or better.

Just picked up a 2010 newport 2 studio select and was actually surprised that it that awesome feel that the older Scotties did. There are a lot of "boutique " guys out there that can make you something unique, but if you are looking to stay in the scotty price range  (Let's say 300.00) I would just pick up an older Scotty at a decent price that needs some work and send it off to someone to refurb it to your specs. Lots of options in the refinishing market these days....

I have a few putters and if I found myself in your position after a new 'gamer' in an Anser head shape, I would probably plump for a Byron Morgan DH89 in Raw carbon or carbon with a Deepwater finish for easier care. There are many great putter makers out there though - Kari Lajosi, TP Mills are also right up there and are just as good as Scotty Cameron is producing these days. Interesting you have a Studio Stainless; one of their best offerings IMHO if you are going the 303 route, but I strongly suggest you give a nice simple carbon putter @ 340 - 355 a try. Do please let us know how you go, threads like this are the most interesting. :-)

Wanted to provide an update... I was split between finding an older Scotty in better shape than mine or something new altogether. I used a Toulon Madison at PGA SS and it was pretty great. I was able to find one new on the bay for $250, so I'm going to give it a shot. Also very interested in the Lajosi and have sent some questions by email and also discovered that Machine Putters is not too far from the house, so I may swing by that shop. Appreciate the input and suggestions. I'll provide an update (if anyone cares) once I'm able to use it a bit.

Thanks again!

For those that asked for pics, here you go! Got home from out of town last night, so haven't had a chance to use other than on the carpet. Raining morning here in Dallas, so hopeful to get out this afternoon and definitely tomorrow.

My current gamer is Kingston KP1 GSS.  Great putter and value and on top of that, Kyle Sears, the owner, is a wonderful guy to work with. You would not be displeased with their product and customer service.

Saw the Toulon line tonight, including this one. Beautiful putters. They look great and clean. But I think I developed a crush on an Argolf Avalon half-moon mid-mallet. It set up perfect for me at address, right away. I never buy a putter first time I test it. Will see how round 2 goes. But these Argolfs are really nicely made.
Current lineup:

TM M1 440 Tour Issue, 10-degree, Diamana B Series X,
67g.
Nike Flex 3 wood, Diamana S-70 stiff
Callaway Epic 5W, Hzrdus T800 S, 65g.
Callaway Apex hybrid, 20 degree, Kuro Kage 80HY stiff shaft
Mizuno MP-59, 4-P, PX 5.5
(Coming: Srixon z565 4 iron, z965 5-P, C Taper Lite X.)
Ping Glide 50, 54, CFS wedge shafts
Fourteen RM12 58/12 sand wedge
Edel Rogue putter (thick blade), 34 inch.

Evenroll!   I just got fitted for an Evenroll ER5.  It beat out a Ping Sigma Tyne and Scotty Cameron Futura.  All excellent putters but the Evenroll is a sharpshooter from 10-20 feet. Most putts are in the hole or within 2 feet.  If you are willing to invest in a putter what you would in a good driver do your research on the Evenroll technology because it works as advertised.

Definetly worth the investment and the best putter I have owned in 25 years of golf.  Worth getting fitted as well to make sure you end up with the model that works best for your particular stroke.

I was going to suggest Piretti, quality build the potenzza is a nice model but I like the cottonwood II much better.
It has a "crisp" feel, solid for sure
second would have the Toulon milled series. The Columbus is awesome and does have the buttery feel.

I just picked up a machine M2A converter and I love it. Very similar to my Newport studio select. Not a fan of their reverse arc grip, but that was an easy fix. Very well balanced and adjustability is there if you need it. The betti bb1 is nice as well, but personally I've been getting away from the mainstream scotty/Betti clubs. I would check out machine, piretti, la josi, etc. they all have blades and I'm sure there is one for you there. Is also pretty breaking away from the trendy stuff and picking up a quality putter that a lot of people on the course have never heard of.

Check out Byron Morgan. You pick the head, head weight, neck style, finish, and stampings. Why not buy a putter exactly like you want one?

If you look to go retro then I've got a 33" Scotty Studio Stainless Newport Beach I'll part with for fairly cheap. It's 15 years old but in tremendous condition.
