Used to use Pro V1X but have gone to the Chromesoft. As an old bloke barely hanging on to a 14 handicap, the difference to me is barely noticeable, it is a decent ball and a lot cheaper as they are always on special somewhere!

Slightly above that, but the new Q Star Tour has been great for me so far this season. I normally play the Duo Spin or last year's e6, but the QST has been performing better for me, especially around the greens.

If I could consistently hit straighter shots I'd likely go this route.

My handicap is in your range.  I switch ball types a lot depending on what I can get a good deal on.  If I can find tour balls for cheap I buy them and unlike some I don't feel they hurt my game.

But if I had to pick one that is regularly at a price point I don't mind paying I would probably go with the srixon q star.  It's a mid compression ball that does well with most swing speeds and seems to have a little more bite than other two piece surlyn balls.

Q-Star or Q-Star Tour. I used to be in this range until I figured out that a tour ball would help my game. Now I play to an 11 and it's going down.

I think the best advice would be to find a ball that fits your short game. Off the tee there is no magic bullet is seems, some maybe slightly longer or slightly straighter but not going to affect your score as much as the short game as far as the ball is concerned.

Last year my scores were between 81-85, this year life(newborn baby) has pushed them up to the 85-90 range.

Truthfully no ball is going to straighten out/improve the long game. I play TF gamer tours since they are cheap and have a urethane cover. They hold greens and check on pitches/chips.

When I was struggling to break 90 (forever) I enjoyed the Titleist Velocity. Then, I tried the Snell Get Sum and found it to be equal. Actually shot my finest round ever (81 at Morgan Creek, legit track) with the Get Sum. Lately, I've been playing the Snell MTB and, if my swing is good that day, the ball performs really well. If my swing is like it was in the 90s, back to the Get Sum or Velocity.

Usually b330 rx. Used to play e6 but like the 330rx much better around the green & play similar off the longer clubs. Also have a few dozen k-sigs I like so far, & play proV1's when I get them as gifts.

The new Bridgestone e6 Soft.  It's a very solid all around ball, good distance and feel and currently 2-dozen for $40 pretty much everywhere.  $28.99 when not on sale.

You're not going to find a better ball at that price.

NXT Tour S. Mid spin.... Enough to hold a green but not so much that if you make a mistake off the tee the ball will a crazy amount into the woods or next fairway.

Is 14-16 considered a high handicapper?  If so, what is a 25-30 handicap?  Anyway, (as with many questions on WRX) there is no perfect answer to the question of what is the right ball for a 14-16 handicap.  What are your weaknesses and strengths?  What ball do you currently play and what about it don't you like?  I think we could better help you if we knew these things.  With that said, if price is an issue, the Top Flite Gamer Tour is an excellent ball, as are the Maxfli U-Fli balls (can be regularly found on sale).  I am a huge fan of Vice balls (the Pro Soft is a great ball IMO).  If you aren't looking for the performance of a urethane ball then the E6 or Wilson Duo/Duo Spin are excellent choices.  For a surlyn ball though, I don't think the 2015/2016 Callaway Supersoft can be beat.

Again, it really depends on your game and what your needs are because that is probably why your handicap is in the 14-16 range.

If you like Pro V1's you can get reload refurbished pro v1 golf balls at a great price $18-$20.  Also great for playing in the fall when the leaves are out and you don't mind as much if you lose one.

I'm a 15 handicap in my mid sixties and I have been hitting Bridgestone e6's for about a year now...a little less feel and distance but my ball files a lot straighter if I don't try to kill it.
The younger guys I played with yesterday kept saying how straight I could hit. The ball makes a difference.

Good point.  I think 10-16 is mid handicap.  Over 20 is high.  Around 18 bogey golfer.  Then you have single digit, low single digit..

Something cheap because you'll lose a lot of them ;)

In all seriousness I found a Taylormade project a and used it for a few holes and thought it was a really good ball, great soft feel.

Nike RZN Tour Black
Snell Get Sum (not enough people are using this ball...it's confusing)..stupid long ball

I will be testing the Q Star Tour soon for comparison.  I realize all of these balls are completely different.

I keep going back to the E6 Soft myself.. Long and straight.. Plays better than most people think.. And with the promotion going to July it is a tough one to beat.

Last generation E6 gives me the best performance off the tee, but I'm playing Tour Level balls because I like how they perform around the green.

K-Sig, Z-Star, and Chromesoft all get the job done.
