I jumped on the bandwagon and bought the epic driver this year.  I have hit some crazy long balls but am SO inconsistent with this head.  I have tried numerous shafts on the course and I feel I have no control with the head.  I miss left and right, I don't know if the head is too light but its not working.  I even pulled my Epic three wood shaft and put it in driver and couldn't control it either; I am very consistent with it in the three wood head.

I am looking for driver suggestions.  I am looking for consistency and feel with some forgiveness.  I don't know if others have had similar results and what they changed to.

I tried to like the Epic. Ended up with a Titleist 917 D2 because I can control it much better.  Have a friend that got a custom Epic and dumped it after 4 weeks.  He's back playing his Ping driver.

As a note, the issue I have with the Titleist is if you want to change the stock weights that come with it.  180 bucks for a weight kit?  Really Titleist?

I went back to the Fuzion after starting this season with the Epic SZ. The Fuzion is a highly underrated head.

What shafts have you tried, and I assume you tried the different shafts on the course. Have you tried moving the slider weight to get your miss to one side or the other. Are your strikes in the center? Try some foot spray to check. I know for me, going down a half inch made for much more consistent center strikes. Get a little lead tape. Easy enough to test your weight question.

For my subzero, even after my fitting, I still picked up several shafts and tested on my local course after the first hole cleared one night for an hour before I settled on my gamer shaft. Now feel like it's point and shoot easy.

Guys I have tried several shafts in this both in a fitting, on the range, and the course.  My buddy owns a golf shop and I can take most things out there (all stock and several higher end custom).  When my own 3 wood epic shaft I couldn't control in the driver head was the last straw.  AND I LOVE IT WITH THE HEAD.

What driver did you come from? Same issues there or what about it, made it work for you? Did you try the SZ head? Could just be a bad fit overall. I know I test a bunch of different heads and did not care for 90% that is out there. For me it was down to the 917 D2 and Sz. I got better ball speed and feel from the SZ.

Last year I played the 9.5 M1 460 with Oban Devotion Stiff.  It wasn't the longest driver but a fairway finder.

My buddy plays that exact setup. I've hit that shaft a few time stealing his club. Really good shaft. Guessing that club is long gone now, so you can't pull the shaft?

If you can find a shop with them, try the Mizuno JPX 900. Just as long for me as Epic's but way more accurate/forgiving.

It doesn't sound like a foregiveness issue for those suggesting foregiving drivers, it sounds like a swingweight/shaft length issue.  Perhaps you should hit five balls choke down a half of an inch hit five more, choke down a half of an inch and go this route until you find the length that puts the ball in the center of the face most often.

Is the new shaft a similar weight to the Oban?  If not that is likely a major factor

I agree with this.  Also, what length shaft do you use?  If it isn't stock length, then the head will feel light, which will have an impact on consistency.  The standard Epic head weighs around 191-192 grams (without adapter), which will feel light to many golfers. They added hotmelt to get my head up to around 200 grams, as I play my driver at 44.5 inches.

I've had the EPIC (standard), and the 17 M1. I have found great joy in a new 917 D2 with the stock Blue Board. I've tried to get along with the multi-material heads, just not for me. I love the fact the Titleist is stock 45", I find the feel and overall accuracy of the club to be tremendous.

In my recent experience with the epiz sz I've found that misses don't come back with as much curve. I tend to hit toe balls straight right when they used to do a hard hook and heel balls straight left when they used to slice back.

For a minute, thought this was a post from a gentleman in our group yesterday.  He has had his Epic for about 3 weeks.  Hit some monster drives.  I doubt he found more than 2 fairways all day.  Long left.  Long right.  Just had no idea where the ball was going.  I didn't ask him what driver he had before, even though he commented he wanted it back.

This gentleman was a senior age player with a really smooth swing.

I really didn't like the Epic sz and couldn't hit it straight. Mainly hooks with good feeling swings.
Tried over 10 shafts, even ones I hit well in my M2 but had to sell it after a few weeks.

I have a friend who hits one great though and he is longer with it although his ss is maybe 90-95mph.

Definitely a try before you buy driver.

Oddly enough, my Epic driver has given me more control than I've ever had. I have the Fuji 62 shaft and am switching to the t800 with very little difference in dispersion.

anybody going to a low spin driver from an older higher spin driver will have directional inconsistency. Higher spin means straighter ball flight

I don't know about that statement. Went from a taylormade burner superfast with the stock stiff shaft to a cobra king ltd pro with stiff oban kiyoshi black and hit it straight just fine. And that's with a pretty low spinning shaft and 100-105 mph swing speed.

I have a fast transition and swing hard at it. Some great feedback above.  For those in the know, what are the heavier heads out there.  I know I have tried ping and they are so light I hated it.

What do you mean by heavier head?  The only thing that will do is make the shaft play softer and the overall club weight slightly heavier.  Do you mean it swing weights in a way that makes it so you can't feel the head?

Hit my Epic poorly this weekend, and wanted to look at something different at the range tonight.   Made a franken-driver out of my spare parts  with a GBB 9 degree Drive head, a Rogue 3w Shaft, and some lead tape.   With the standard setting I was hitting it way to high, but after moving it to Draw and -1 I was hitting power fade after power fade over top of the 250 sign.

Lowered the loft on my Epic a click and it seemed to help, but I might throw the GBB Frankedriver in my bag for my league on Thursday.

Golf is a stupid f'n game.

Yes, I want a heavier swing weight.  Going to a shorter shaft at 45 will make this even worse.

How long have you had it? Sometimes it just takes time to get used to something. I really struggled to dial in my XR Pro 3 wood at first but now i love it

Yes, I want a heavier swing weight.  Going to a shorter shaft at 45 will make this even worse.

You could just ask Callaway for an extra weight, or different weight set to add more head weight. I believe for people who went 44.5" they would actually put 2 11g weights in the stock epic instead of the single 17g weight. Maybe that solution could work for you.
