Denver area:
Fossil Trace
Murphy Creek
Bear Dance
Arrowhead

Ridge at Castle Pines you can find an online deal for <$100 I think.

Green valley ranch, common ground and raccoon creek would be honorable mentions for me.

I live in western Colorado; best courses:
Ironbridge
Devil's Thumb
Eagle Ranch

Redlands mesa gets stellar reviews I've yet to play it though. Lots of other good mountain courses in between as well

The "Rockies" regional sub-forum has a lot of threads with Colorado course notes and thoughts

Commonground?  I've never played it, but it gets a reasonable amount of press for being one of the best courses for the health of the game.  Subsidized caddie program on a public course, walkable, affordable, etc...

Riverdale Dunes
Green Valley Ranch
Murphy Creek

The Ridge
Bear Dance

Fossil Trace is great for tourists, not great for golf unless you like gimmicks.

Agree with this.  Throw in Buffalo Run and Murphy creek as well.  I always like Fox Hollow in Lakewood as well.

Commonground is the former Lowrey AFB course that was re-done by Tom Doak/ Renaissance Golf  team . It is not a great piece of land, but the greens and hunkering are excellent. Well worth playing. It is a top 5 Denver area course

I'll second and third the recommendation to play Commonground. Played it several years ago and thought it was very fun and enjoyable while still being challenging. I saw that they had a US Open qualifier there a couple of weeks ago and they didn't exactly tear it up.

And it's good enough that when they played the US Am at Cherry Hills, they used Commonground as the 2nd course for the 36 hole stroke play portion.

Not sure what Colorado residents would say but I played a couple of courses up in the mountains that were simply spectacular.

1. Nicklaus course at Breckenridge. Every hole was a post card. Simply beautiful.

2. The Raven around Silverthorne area was also spectacular. It's been a while but they were both very pleasant surprises back then.

In my opinion....

1. Redlands Mesa
2. Lakota Canyon
3. Green valley ranch

I haven't played any of the high mountain courses, or any private courses of note though, so I'm not sure how valuable my insight is.

Used to drive up and play Grandote in LaVita.  Unfortunately, the owner got tired of bleeding money and is going to convert it into a marijuana farm.  It was a nice course, might be a spectacular weed farm.

I would consider Commonground--excellent Tom Doak designed public course on the outskirts of Denver in Aurora.

Bear Dance, The Ridge at Castle Pines North, and Riverdale Dunes. Fossil Trace is very scenic, but it is an awful golf course.
