So you would put Whispering Pines and Dallas National ahead of Colonial but you haven't played them??

I believe my top 3 is likely to change as I'm going to check out Trinity Forest soon however I'll wait until I've actually played it to say for sure.

The Tribute is a really fun track in Frisco.   Love the scottish layouts.
Crown Colony in Lufkin used to be the bomb back in the day.  I haven't played it since the late 90's.
Mill Creek in Salado was also the cat's meow back in the 90's.

Not sure how the tribute is after the green renovations but last time I played this place was really sad and looked like it had better days.  The management company I believe ruined the concept.

Dallas has way too many of these places with poor maintenance that your best bet is join a clubcorp club around here. If your in Fort Worth you have better options

Would think one of the better courses in the state are in horseshoe bay. Trinity forest and dallas nation also look good but I haven't run into anyone who can play there.

Whispering Pines
D'Nash
Bluejack National

Have played Colonial a bunch, pretty boring, summer conditions are sketchy (bent grass greens).  Texas courses suffer, especially North Texas with flat topography, limited character

They sent out an email to the troon card holders (maybe just the local Port A/Corpus Christi holders) saying they were closed indefinitely. Based on the local news and some aerial photos it does not look all that bad. Only the three story bar that overlooks the dunes and beach looked really bad (a pile of splinters).

My playing buddies and I are hopeful but I would definitely think it will spring or later before they re open.

Surprised you rank Preston Trail that high.  I used to live on the grounds.  It's a nice course but it's really a better club then golf course.  Only male only course around, anything goes and anyone that acts like a D-Bag gets shown the door.  It's the kinda of place you want to be at because they don't suffer fools but the golf is OK with great conditions

Thought the same, they actually water the course with salt water from what I recall.

Decent track but from a life long Houston boy this place has mosquitoes!

1. Vaaler Creek
-for crazy challenging pins and the impeccable condition and serenity out in Blanco.

2. The Bandit
-amazing, fun lay out.

3. TPC - Oaks
-played it a ton so maybe I'm biased. Wish it was a little wider tho ;)

-JA

the courses I play the most when I'm in Texas are The Tribute GC (Dallas) and Black Jack's Crossing @ Lajitas Golf resort.  Tribute is a fantastic collection of holes from the British Open rotation and BJ@L is just amazing - but it is in the middle of nowhere (about 10 minutes from Mexico (wife's family has a ranch about 60 miles away) :taunt: :golfer:
My set-up:
Bag - Sun Mountain MPB
Driver - Taylor Made M1 with HOF HD Prototype
3 Wood - Rocketballz15* with Diamana Red M+ stiff shaft / White Tour Wrap Grip
Hybrid - Rocketballz 3 hybrid stock shaft / White Tour Wrap Grip
Irons - JDM Titleist VG3 4-PW irons with Nippon Modus 3 shafts / White Tour Wrap Grip
Wedges - Ping Glide 50* / 54* / 58*
Putter - Scotty Cameron GoLo 33"
Shoes - FJ Freestyle BOA
Ball - Srixon Z Star

Only been to Texas once and the three courses were all very playable
1. Stonebriar
2. Old American
3. Dallas Cowboys
Next time, if there is one, my plan would be
1. Dallas National
2. Shady Oaks
3. Lubbock The Rawls
After that maybe on to New Mexico in search of Jesse James and Billy the Kid.
ps does Texas have its own favorite bourbon or whisky?
