i got an app called WindVanePro which is pretty basic but quite effective for me..

it only shows direction, wind speed, and pressure with a compass as a centrepiece and only cost the equivalent of $2 for my iPhone 6s..

you don't need much more than this basic info to help you gauge the wind..

i also put a free Rangefinder app but it's not very good and hard to interpret..

i think the paid apps will normally work better..

I use Golfshot + and like it a lot. I used the free version Golfshot for quite a while before upgrading. I have dl Grint to try but I haven't used it yet. Hopefully I will get out Thursday to try it out.

Since i´m new to the whole golf app market I would have a few questions:
What´s the price of those apps? Do you guys try the ones that cost or mostly the free ones first? Is the quality better on the apps that cost and is it worth it?

iPhone paid apps in my country cost anywhere from $2-$15 and these include voice translators which is the most expensive i've seen to date..

paid apps will normally work better than the free ones which may charge upgrade fees anyway if you're not happy with the free version..

i suggest you read the reviews which most apps have to get an idea how effective they are..

GolfMatch.  Not a GPS, but I really like the concept of being able to get groups of players together without having to chase down your buddies, etc.  Hope it catches on more where I am.

Golfshot is great for just GPS and scorecard tracking...

I have a Game Golf tag system, but several of my buddies use just the Game Golf app without the tags, which works great if you want to manually track clubs, distances, stats, and keep your own score.. you can also play along with other game golf users.. and it's free.

Swing by Swing was ok.. but didn't like the way it did yardages with all the different lines, and was hard to see course layouts on the phone, and a little less intuitive to use than GolfShot.

SkyDroid is a great super simple app if all you want is GPS front/back/center of green distances..

18 birdies was pretty legit when i used it, however, it sucks the living data and battery from the phone. This was a not go for me.

Great app for general scoring and statistics but wish future versions would allow tracking of strokes gained

I may have fallen in love with the Grint AW app. Used it yesterday for first time.  I'm not a fan of the app in the iPhone. Or at least it isn't as easy to use or find what I want as Hole 19 but H19 watch app has gotten worse, imo, over the last year.  Buttons haven't worked right, harder to go from hole to hole. The grint on AW was a joy to use.  But it was much harder for me on the grint iPhone app to go to the round and look at my scorecard than it was on Hole 19.

Let me say this about the Grint App.  I love its AW functionality better than Hole 19 for sure now after two rounds. It's so much easier to use on the watch. I still don't like the app as much as Hole19. The Grint kills my AW battery though. Like way bad.  After 18 holes with Hole 19 I still have like 45% batter life.  After 18 with the Grint i get low power mode 10% left.

Hey there - Anthony here from Hole19. We just launched a brand new update for the Apple Watch and have fixed many of the bugs you mention. The response is much faster and it has less battery drain than ever before. Would love for you to give us another shot ;)

Not a golf specific app, but Hudl technique is a good app for videoing your swing at the range. You can slow videos down I think 1/8 speed and draw lines and what not. Pretty useful and there is a free version.

the first app to let me track my shots for free instead of overpaying just for that one feature will gain my loyalty forever lol...tracking my distances would be amazing and don't see why they charge for it...guess they have to make money though so its understandable

The Grint is pretty killer.  I like the feature that you can turn on and off the skyview of the hole - saves lots of battery.  You still get your yardage that way too.

hmm, you do?

Does the Apple Watch yardage still work of that is turned off? My biggest complaint wit the Grint was the battery usage. Killed everything.
