Nope, I hate that shaft. I swapped in KBS tour 120's and it made them even better (at least for me). Don't try to detract from their greatness with your silly shaft theories! ;)

Did I say the Cobra Forged Tecs were not great heads?  Of course not! I was merely mentioning the contribution the stock C-Taper Lite shaft makes as part of the club. I also happen to feel the C-Taper Lites are capable of making a lot of irons better based on my own experience.

I don't see the need to accuse you of "silly shaft theories" for saying above that the KBS Tour 120's made the Forged Tecs even better for you than the stock C-Taper Lites you claim to "hate'.

Seems to me, your post is actually a testimony to the importance of finding he right shaft for your swing.  I certainly would never accuse you of  any "silly shaft theories" for saying that you prefer something other than the stock C-Taper Lite shaft in the Cobra Forged Tecs.  No need to be rude like you! :beee: ..

Agree with above. Went into my Club Champion fitting with the FlyZ+ in the bag with stock KBS S+ and easily got a full club longer with Tec. They're thicker with more mass behind the ball and stronger loft. Switched up the shafts to some Nippon 120s and I was getting higher club speed, smash, and ridiculously higher ball speed with the Tec.
To the point where I'd be worried I'd have to add another wedge for my gaps.
I almost wouldn't put the Tec in the same category. The FlyZ+ and new King Forged seem to be similar to the AP2 but the Tec is like a hybrid between a players iron and an improvement club. Or just call it easily the longest and most forgiving players iron ever.

Grabbed a used but nearly new set of these for a steal price. Man are these clubs long. Love the sole grind too. Excellent ball flight and fast faces. This is my "forgiving" or "long layoff" set. I would not mind if they flew a little shorter.

A question, however: These are 1/4 inch longer than U.S. standard and 1/2 inch longer than Mizuno standard, which is my length. (5-10 but I have 34.5 inch arms so I like irons a touch shorter.)

I want to cut these to Mizuno standard and if I do, will I need to adjust the lie angle as well or will it not matter and I can just cut them?

(Coming: Srixon z565 4 iron, z965 5-P, C Taper Lite X.)
Ping Glide 50, 54, CFS wedge shafts
Fourteen RM12 58/12 sand wedge
Edel Rogue putter (thick blade), 34 inch.

Just got mine in. All I can say is holy cow! I went straight to the course with no range time and decided to just play the same yardages as my old Fly Zs. I usually come up,short a lot, or thin the old clubs over the green. These hit amazingly. Never stuckmso many greens in my life. Give me these clubs 8i and under and it's hitting the green.

After I get the G400 3W and 3 hybrid the bag is set for years. Love everything now. Bagged both my 4H and the 4i and thing the 4i will Ben coming out. Didn't give me much more than the 5 and my Fly Z 4H is so easy to hit and get 10-15 more than the 5i.IMG_0501.JPG IMG_0502.JPG IMG_0505.JPG

The forged tec are great irons, a lot more forgiving than I thought. Unfortunately, bought these on a whim(club ho) with c taper lite stiff, and I really need a regular. Now just trying to find a place, or someone who would want to trade.

I can't believe these irons have been out for two years already and were not on my radar (where have I been...), but I may have found my holy grail irons.  Instead of starting a new thread, I'll piggyback off of this older one.  Plenty has been said about the Forged Tec, and from threads like this, a lot of praise.  I kind of ignored it for a while, and went about picking up sets of 900 HM's, Z565's, J15 CB's, and others.  I've played every Ping G iron in recent memory.  I have other sets of irons around, like the Adams CB3.  End of the day, those are all terrific irons, and some have been good for my game, some not so much.

Enter the Forged Tec, which I recently picked up a lightly used set with C-Taper Lite S for under $400 from Global Golf.  Figured they'd be another "try and dump" kind of set, but I took a couple of the Forged Tec irons out along with my 900 HM's for 9 holes this past Saturday night, knowing that I was playing 18 Sunday morning.

Let's just say that the Forged Tec blew me away.  Clean, flush shots time after time.  I did have the benefit of knowing that the stock C-Taper Lite stiff shafts are a good fit for me, from when I was fitted for my 900 HM's.  Anyway, from their debut Saturday night, I put the Forged Tec 5-GW in the bag for Sunday's round, and they were great.  Perfect look for me, not too chunky, but not too small and daunting.  Terrific performance from the fairway.  I've been having a lot of trouble from the rough this season, but the Forged Tec tore through the rough and launched with ease.  C-Taper lites are very stable and work great with the heads.  Great feel.

Anyway, I think these are it for a good long while.  They check all of the boxes I am looking for in an iron.  Hard to believe I missed these for such a long time.  YMMV.

Don't know how they compare to Nike, and not sure why you would want a set with no support from the manuf.

But for me the forged TEC lowered my HC by 3 strokes in a month. The last 3 rounds I have been trending down another 3 strokes, but will take more rounds to get the HC to update. Yesterday I hit 44% GIR, which is a best for me. Each one stopped within about 6" to 3' with everything from a 6i to GW. These aren't leaving the bag until they wear out.

These were what I wanted when I decided I wanted to move away from the JPX EZ Forged, but I came across a really good deal on some Fly-Z+ and decided to give them a try.  Well, they've been a bit more difficult to hit than I expected.  I've decided to experiment with mixing in original AMP irons (also picked up dirt cheap) for 5-7 as a band-aid fix hoping that it would give my ball-striking time to catch up.  If this doesn't do it, I have a strong feeling I'll pickup the Forged Tecs I originally wanted anyway during the off-season or sooner.

Have played the VPC and Forged Tec. Both excellent irons IMO. My take is even on stopping power, Forged Tec was a little longer for me, VPC slightly more compacf, both have nice soles that add a touch of forgiveness.

FT is probably a bit more forgiving overall, not by much, but slightly longer head helps. Feel is comparable, the FT may be a tad more crisp. Always enjoyed the sound of the Nikes.

Very comparable clubs in same category.

Well that didn't take long... grabbed a very good looking 5-Gw set with DG R300 and black/orange NDMCs for $275 shipped.  I'll try them as-is, but will probably swap over the Dynalite Gold XPs currently in the Fly-Z+ (which have been in my last 4 sets of irons) and put the DGs in the Fly-Z+s to sell on.  I was looking forward to trying out the C-Taper Lite 110 S (which was what the KBS Fit System recommended), but couldn't pass on these for the price just because they're DG.

I have a set of Ping G irons around (not G400) that I am not currently playing.  Any Ping G-series iron is more GI than the Forged Tec.  The Forged Tec is likely more akin to the i series, not the G series.  Cobra has the F series irons that are more comparable to the Ping G series.

All of that said, while the G series will be somewhat more forgiving than the Forged Tec, the Forged Tec are still quite forgiving for a players-type iron.  And the Forged Tec have a thicker topline than what many would expect in a players-type iron (which I personally like--gives me more confidence).

I'll try to post some comparison photos later, which I think can be helpful.

I compared the F TEC in another thread to the G400.

Still loving the TECs. I hit 12-18 GIR yesterday. Had a 7i into a par 5 that was a tap in birdie. And had another land 6" by the cup and roll 3' for another birdie. Really can't say enough about how much these irons have made golf so much fun for me.

I own Ping 400 irons, love how they perform i can hit a 6 iron to a 200 yard par 3 and stops on a dime! Only thing I hate is the feeling and sound at impact. Thatís why i want to pull the trigger on those Forged Tec

IMO this are the most underrated clubs ever. I loved them so much I decided to buy a set of used forged ones because I loved my forged tec and was sold on the single length idea. That was a fun experiment and I might revisit them after a while but the forged tec are just so good I went back to them and have been very happy. C-taper lite shafts are da bomb!

I said I would come back and post some comparison photos, so here goes.  May be worth something to someone, may be worthless.  These are in order, Ping G, Mizuno JPX 900 HM, Srixon Z-565, and Cobra Forged Tec, 7 irons.  L-R in photos 1 and 4.  R-L in photos 2 and 3.

Anyone could compare Cobra Forged Tec to Ping G400 irons????

How would you compare feel of the two?

I have had the forged tec since they came out. I liked the g400 on the range and am waiting to hit the new AP1. I would like a little more forgiveness but will keep my forged tec. Also interested in other comparisons of new AP1 and G400 especially with graphite reg shaft.

Thanks for the comparison pics.  Seems like they compare pretty directly to the 900HM... this is good news for me, since the 900HM were just the least bit more compact and equally slightly less offset than the JPX EZ-Forged which I got along well with.

I'm also glad I scored my FTs when I did and not any sooner (they'll arrive Monday)... because this evening I either left my bag on the cart at the club, or it was stolen out of the back of my SUV while valeted at dinner.  I'm fairly sure it's the former, but if it turns out to be the latter it looks like I'll be doing some bag rebuilding around the FTs and/or pulling from backups.  I have perfectly good backups for everything, but I was really starting to get along with the F7 woods and hybrid... I have an F6 driver and hybrid in the backup bag that should be pretty close, but hopefully a homeowner's insurance claim would leave me with enough to replace both fairways, 2 wedges, and a putter after deductible.

Not to thread jack, but how would these do for a fairly new golfer with a high handicap?

I started golfing around the middle/end of August, and am currently gaming a set of Cobra Max Irons/hybrids roughly 3 times a week.  When I started, my scores were roughly 110/115 over 18, but I've now gotten to the point where i"m consistently scoring just under 100, with most of my strokes coming from my short game.  Iron shots are fairly straight and decently long.

I know I should probably continue to game my Max irons for a while, as they are aimed specifically at players of my skill level, but I can't help but be curious after reading all the amazing reviews.  I went out and bought  Fly Z+ 3 and 5 fairway woods and a 3/4 hybrid after reading stellar reviews, and honestly I couldn't be happier with how those are performing for me and helping my game.

So looks like I was just clumsy and left my bag on the cart at the club... picked it up this morning with everything in place.  Anxious to get the Forged Tecs in but need to move my Fly-Z+.

Thanks for taking the trouble to snap the photos and post them. I wish more people who own multiple sets of irons would post comparisons like that.

I use the Ping G and they just seem kind of normal to me. I don't own any other irons to compare them to. Seeing them against those four other clubheads, none of which are exactly butter knives, I guess the word is "Wow". Like we say about our rather hefty house cat, she moves pretty good for a big girl!

P.S. Posting comparo-pics is great. The clubs also being lefty? PRICELESS.
