I know that it is not fashion forward, but on really hot days, wearing patterned shorts, it just calls for a plain white shirt.

We were all brought up on the white RL Polo...but now a days, it is too hot for North Carolina golf.

Most makers white shirts are so thin that the ni%%les or chest hair show.  White shirts are basically disposable, because they lose their whiteness after one summer.

Who make a quality, dry tech, non paper thin white shirt for less than $40 (my personal budget for disposable shirts)?

I can't recommend a golf shirt for $40 or less (unless we're talking about a massive markdown) that's going to last more than one season of play. If you want a great tailored white shirt that's made extremely well (and you'll be supporting an American-made product) look no further:

Holderness & Bourne

  • 3-Wood: Nike Covert 2 Standard; Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage (stock)
  • 3-Hybrid: Nike Covert 2 Tour; Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage (stock)
  • Irons: Mizuno MP-H5 (4 through PW); True Temper Dynamic Gold S300
  • Wedges: 50, 56, 60 Titelst SM4 / SM5
  • Putter: BPutters Coyote Model milled from Italian 303SS (heel-shafted)
  • Grips: Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound (standard / 3-wraps)

The one at Target seem fine to me. I paid 20-something bucks.  I have a FJ one that is nicer but was ridiculously expensive, like $49 on sale.

We make a white shirt (we call it magnolia color because we tried to make it the color of a magnolia flower) for $29.99 that I think meets everything you are asking for...just look up Charleston Green polo on Amazon.

I like the Reebok Speedwick Polo they sell at DXL. Unfortunately, the smallest size they have is XL. So if you are medium or small, you may be out of luck. I'm on the bigger side, so they work for me.

They are moisture wicking, they have them in white, and they look pretty decent. Price is usually around $40. Sometimes they have promos and you can shave a few dollars off.

I'll vote for C9 (Champion) from Target as well... though a thin shirt with a white dri-fit tee under it is another option.

I'd look for last season shirts on eBay or Golf Locker. Hopefully a little better brand will wear a little better or might be a little better quality.

I can second (or now, third) these shirts are great. I will point out if you want a real brilliant white, this isnt the shirt. Like he said, they call it Magnolia. It isnt a bright or brilliant white. It has some subtle yellow to it.

You can pretty much always find last year's Adidas basic polo on eBay for $25-35. It's currently the Performance Polo but was called Puremotion in 2016 (might have been 2015).

Costco has some KS solid shirts including white for $15. Performance fabric seemed  breathable and high quality. No logos. Agree that shirts get ruined playing in extreme summer heat.  Seems to make sense to find decent white shirts on the cheap that could be considered disposable.

Use Oxiclean Bright Whites when washing your whites. Sunscreen won't ruin them.

Not solid white but Ping has some nice white shirts where the only color is the collar and placket.  They wear very well.  I hear lots of people having issues with sunscreen and their shirts.  I personally use Coppertone Dry Oil spray.  Spray before I put the shirt on and I have never had an issue with discoloration of my shirts.  I also agree with using Oxycleen.  I use it in the wash when I have any light colors in there.

I picked one up yesterday.  For a golf shirt that is going to get smelly and sunscreen stains after a few rounds, they are a great bargain.

There is a company located here where I live that does great logo and embroidery work, and they ship all over the world.

Now, personally, I'm "old school"...never really cared for the polyester shirt from the 70's, and what is being marketed today as quick drying or wicking fabric is simply a polyester blend.

Queensboro Shirt Company sells many brands, with embroidery available really inexpensively, and they also sell 100% cotton shirts, some starting at $9.99.

Believe it or not, they offer a 10 year guarantee. Now, I know that some people will take an unfair advantage of this, but I have many of their 100% cotton shirts in white that are just as white today as when I got them...playing golf, working for general purposes, etc.

I never intend to take a shirt back after 5+ years and get my money back, for I have extremely satisfied with the quality of off their items, and especially the 100% cotton, in various knits.

PM me if you would like additional information.

BTW, having sold and worn all major brands of golf shirts and apparel, I would rate these on a par with any of them, for a fraction of the price. And, I know if for any reason I am dissatisfied with any of my items, they will make it right. Have been a customer for over 8 years, and plan on being one for many more.

I use the Russell athletic dri-power polo, available on Amazon for about $15-$25 depending on the model. They run about a size big. All sorts of colors, including plain white. They do have an "R" logo in the sleeve or chest, again, depending on model.  I don't expect them to last forever. There's probably not a white shirt made that will stand up to last more than a season in the Texas conditions exposed to sun, sweat, sunscreen, antiperspirant, bug spray, etc.
