My problem is I've got short legs and everything thats going to fit around my 40" waist has got a 32-33" inseam which means without a doubt I'm stepping on them. I've got a 28" inseam which means I'm normally wearing a 30" inseam pant but just have the cuffs hemmed. Which is impossible with a rain pant due to the zippers needed to slide the pant on over my shoes.

I'm about this close to taking a pair of scissors to my current pair and either creating rain knickers or rain shorts :diablo:

anyone have any thoughts?

I have a really nice pair of SunIce Goretex Rain Pants I bought last year that were a bit long so I just took them to my tailor and he shortened them no problem. Now I think there is a limit to how much they can shorten them as mine had zippers at the bottom but they were designed so you could take 1-2" off them without any problem.

You can order Sun Mountain Rainflex rain pants with shorter inseams.

Dude, I so feel your pain. I had exactly, and I mean "EXACTLY" the same problem. The Bulldog in my profile describes my build to a tee.

Although ZR and FJ make good rainpants, they have a lot of zippers near the cuffs that freak out tailors. For ZR, you can custom order some, but they cost a fortune.

Luckily, I stumbled upon a solution. At Cabelas, I was looking for a winter parka when I found a section full of GoreTex rainpants made for fishermen. They had a $89 model without any zippers - just buttons.

Literally, I picked them up from the tailor today. Fit fantastic, look decent, and he even salvaged the buttons.

Good luck

The fJs that zip off into shorts are perfect. I almost never needed to wear them at full length. Perfect

The FJ pants have 5 inches of velcro before the zippers so they can be hemmed.

I have the same problem as you. I picked up a pair of Nike Storm Fit rain pants on sale and too them to be hemmed. My tailor actually did mine just below the knee and left some overhang over the new stitch line, basically he rolled them up a few inches and stitched them in place. They look just fine and fit correctly.
