The caddie merry-go-round just isn't something that I get too fired up about.  10 is a lot in this short of a career - especially a career with this much success so early.

Only the stars get this much attention over minutia.  Take the 75th ranked player on the LPGA or PGA even and nobody cares if they've had 50 caddies.

Does this prove that caddies are under-rated or over-rated?

You'll get opinions both ways on that one.....But I'd guess that Lydia Ko could win with me on the bag for a week.

I'd have no problem with the "Show Up & Shut Up" portion of the rules of caddies.....the "Keep Up" part might get tough as the week went along.  I'm not used to walking 6-7 miles carrying a staff bag.

Matthews has caddied for 8 players in 16 years, 7 of them on the PGA. If he loops this week, it'll be his 9th player. 'Seems in his case overrated would be the word.

We should do a 'dead pool' kind of thing for when he gets dumped. We're not going to see him at Olympia Fields, is my bet.

While Lydia seems ahead of the curve, from what I've read in the last  two weeks or so, the caddie merry go round in the LPGA is alive and well.

It's like a NFL coach to a losing team.  You're hired to get fired...  Could probably say the same with most other players.

Ko: Number of caddie firings bit misleading

ByRandall Mell

April 27, 2017, 4:55 pm

IRVING, Texas – Rolex world No. 1 Lydia Ko says her caddie count may seem high for a 20-year-old pro, but it’s misleading.
Ko said she didn’t really know what she was looking for her rookie year, when she went through a bunch of caddies before settling on Jason Hamilton as her first real full-time caddie late in the season.

“Obviously, the number of caddies I’ve had is not a small number,” Ko said. “My first year, I didn’t technically fire eight caddies. I didn’t even know what I wanted or needed in a caddie. As an amateur, you’ve always got a friend, or my mom ...”

Ko gave a thumbs up to Peter Godfrey as her newest caddie after their first start together Thursday at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout, with Ko posting a 1-under-par 71.

Godfrey is actually the 11th caddie Ko has used since turning pro. She thanked eight caddies for their service when she accepted the LPGA Rookie of the Year honor at the season-ending awards dinner. She used a local caddie at the Sime Darby for one event last year, then hired Gary Matthews, who lasted nine events before Ko let him go after the Lotte Championship two weeks ago.
Godfrey was named Caddie of the Year at the HSBC Women’s Champions in March, based on a vote by his LPGA peers. He was on Ariya Jutanugarn’s bag when she won the Ricoh Women’s British Open last year and on Ha Na Jang’s bag earlier this year. Godfrey is married to LPGA pro Jane Park, the 2004 U.S. Women’s Amateur champ.

“She’s kind of like one of my big sisters on tour,” Ko said.  ... Rest of story at Golf Channel: http://www.golfchann...rr_editorial_p5

Pretty funny stuff.

So, if someone signs a one-and -one contract, it's technically still a firing at the end of the tournament?
