Just found a pair of Nautica flat front, classic fit, deck shorts.  They have an 8 1/2 inch inseam, aren't too wide at the legs, and fit right above my knee.  They are very comfortable and fit really well.  I'm a weird size too.  I'm 5'9" and weigh 150lbs with a size 30 waist.

Titleist 716 AP2 3-PW w/ Project X LZ 6.0 120g
Titleist SM5 50°/12° F Grind, 54°/10° S Grind, & 58°/8° M Grind
All of the above with Golf Pride Tour Velvet Standard Grips

uniqlo, I have a bunch of pricier shorts but these have some stretch and fit better than anything else I have tried, for $30 they are worth a shot imo.

bonobos.com (not the golf stuff, just regular bonobos)

They have 7, 9 and 11 in 3 or 4 different materials.  In general, if you need something (anything) to fit well go there.  They have a ton of different options for fits.

Summer weight would be the material you'd see for regular golf shorts most likely.

Outlier New Way Shorts. Hands down the best shorts / pants made. I have the new way shorts and slim dungarees in blue and black. Don't bat an eye at the cost, they are worth every penny. I've been wearing them for three years and they show no signs of wear. A traditional pair of Levi's lasts me about 9 months.

Digging up this thread because I also struggled to find shorter golf shorts. Maybe someone is googling around and finds this thread, I found shorts from a company called cross sportswear. I can recommend them, 9" inseam and light performance material.

Sounds weird, but Jcrew tech shorts. They have 7", 9" and 10.5" inseam available.  Always have 40% off sales so you can pick up a pair for less than $40.  Wish they had more colors.

Yup, J Crew Tech Shorts are the only shorts I'll ever golf in now. 7" inseam is perfect for me. Hell, I'd even take a 5" if they offered them. I've purchased all 4 colors they offer, and would definitely buy more if they choose to make some.

Both on & off the course. Great for hiking and riding bikes too.

Just ordered two pair of the Peter Millar Salem drapes with 8” inseam.  Hoping they fit well.  7” seems to be my desired length.

Wear cotton in the south and you’ll soak through before you get through warming up.

Order the Bonobos Highland's in 8" and 10" to see which ones I like the best (1st time buyer).  Sent the 8" back and kept the 10's.  Plenty short enough for me.  And absolutely the fit / look.

I just picked up some Izod Saltwater Stretch shorts on sale @ JCPennys on sale for $26.99 (you can actually get them today for $20.24 online with code "8Sunday").  I got some of these in long pants for work when they were on sale this winter and love the fit/feel, so these were a no-brainer.  They are 9.5" inseam and sit at the waist, not below.  They also offer a 7" model.

Travis Mathew has been running out some shorter inseam stuff over the last couple of years.  I bought a pair recently and they are great.  I bought a pair of peter millar which have a shorter inseam last year.  Great shorts.

I'm 5'8 so a lot of the longer inseam shorts look like capri pants on my short arse

I think it depends on waist size... TM only provides outseam... the 32 waist with a 21.5 outseam I believe converts to a 9 inch inseam.  As you go up in waist, the TM shorts gain an extra half inch in outseam with each pair.  I'm 5'8, I just bought a pair of 32w shorts and they are right at the top of my knee.

Check out the boardwalker shorts from Linksoul. I have two pairs that come above my knees and i'm 5'10. I tried on many brands and those were the only ones I found at the store that didn't touch my knees (tried Puma, Adidas, Nike, UnderArmour etc.)

I think I have the answer...Cabellas has canvas shorts with either 5 or 7 inch inseam.  I've worn these almost exclusively for 25 years and I can't wear them out.  Cost just up from $19.95 to around $23.00.
