Kelly Kraft tweeted this out last Wednesday as the WGC Dell Match Play kicked off: "It's amazing to me how fast some of the Asian Tour/ Euro tour guys rise in the world golf rankings."

Grayson Murray tweeted back to Kraft, saying: "Let's go play over there and then we will be in every major and WGC event the rest of our lives!"

And all was quiet until this morning, when Thomas Pieters chimed in with a response to Murray and Kraft: "@GraysonMurray or you guys could just text that to each other, and not make a fool of yourself for tweeting nonsense"

Who else is excited for the next Ryder Cup?

I do think OWGR points are inflated for the Euro and especially the Asian Tours. Grayson's tweet rings a little hollow though with his performances the past couple months

I'm pretty sure Hideto Tanihara would beat Grayson and Kelly on most days... Would like to see them tee it up in a Japanese Tour or European Tour event

Simple : If your goal is to accumulate OGWR points, play the Asian or Euro tours.  If your goal is to compete and beat the best put your big boys pants on and go win on the PGA tour.  Not a Pieters fan but I'm with him on this one.

OWGR are weighted by strength of event. You can rack up OWGR points if you are regularly making cuts on the PGA Tour. Murray's 8 MC in 11 events isn't helping him. Since one good showing at Pebble, Kelly Kraft has gone MC-MC-T65-WD, and it wasn't much better before that. Making cuts on any Tour is better for OWGR than missing cuts on the PGA Tour. If that is what they're saying, then I agree with them.

p.s. would love to see Kraft and Murray on the US Ryder Cup Team! :golfer:

Perhaps Kraft and Murray should rack up a few top 10's before tweeting such B.S.

Kraft has eight top 10 finishes in 122 starts as a pro, with most of them coming on the web.com TOUR.

Murray spouts off nonsense everyday and resorts to mentioning that he has a Rolex and drives a Maserati when people criticize his play. He and Kraft are not playing well enough at this point to move up on any Tour.

At first I thought it was strange that Kelly Kraft was moaning about the European Tour and OWGR but then I realised that he was in fact a man and not playing on the LPGA.

Frankly what we seem to have here is a couple of good ol' boy with tweeting about their experience based on no actual experience. The amount of free weekends they seem to have you would think that they could maybe broaden their horizons and experience some of the world.

Doubtful either of those tools will even be on the PGA Tour in 2018, much less in contention for a Ryder Cup spot.

That ranking is likely to drop quite a bit if he doesn't pick it up. The wrap around season allows some of the "lesser" (not meant in a derogatory way, just noting results) to build up points before the "actual" season gets in full swing.

The blind squirrel found a nut at Pebble, so I guess he's got a pretty good shot at keeping his card for 2018. But 5 MCs, 2 WDs and no other top 10s does not bode well for his future.

In any case, not sure why he's worried about getting into WGCs and majors. He's nowhere near that level of player.

The Euro/Asian guys (Pieters, Hatton, Fleetwood, Tanihara, etc) have all been proving their OWGR rankings in recent tournaments including the WGC's.  Kraft and Murray are just coming off as really bitter here.  I'm sure the welcome mat is there if they want to play in Europe to supposedly improve their rankings but something tells me they wouldn't have much more success over there than they do here.  No these guys choose to play here because of the higher pots of gold offered at PGA tournaments.

G. Murray reminds me of Phil's quote saying you had to "real smart or real dumb" to play professional golf. Imo, Murray isn't very smart.

Shut the hell up and play better. If you do have success, keep your mouth shut then, too.

They have a perfectly legitimate gripe.

Here's an article from Dr. Mark Broadie on the subject:

https://pdfs.semanti...c00334ac636.pdf

And here's a report from Data Golf looking at players that have played at least 40 rounds on both the PGA and European Tours since 2010:

http://datagolf.ca/a...european-tours/

My estimation is that the top-20 on the Euro Tour are roughly in the same class as the top-20 American Tour golfers.  Once you get outside of that, the Americans field much stronger competitors as the Data Golf link alludes to.

That doesn't mean that I think Murray and Kraft could go over there and win, play WGC events and get into the Majors.  But, there is a legitimate gripe being made here.
