Does anybody know anything about these wedges? I realize the JDM is very different than the US market. But from the pics they resemble what has been released in the US, somewhat.

Tourspecgolf did release pics of the 716 T-MB before the US release, and they were the same as what we got. They also posted pics of the 718 T-MB before they were shown in the US. Just wondering if these could possibly be the next Vokey release? Obviously Vokey has never released a forged wedge in the US, so that leads me to believe it's strictly a JDM release. But I'm sure it'd be well received if the price isn't crazy, but on the other hand the current, cast Vokey sells well already.

Lastly does anyone know how cold forging is different  (or if it is at all) vs. normal forging?

So just curious if anyone knows anything about these wedges

cold forging is basically a "form forged" club being pressed at a lower temp than a traditional forging. Don't let it fool you. These are cast clubs but may just ever so slightly feel softer. The heads of JDM Vokeys are a little more compact and normally have straighter leading edges.

So does that mean it's basically a cast head that is then pressed/forged, vs. the traditional round cylinder blank that's then forged into a finished gead?

EDIT: I believe Adams used to do something along the line of cold forging instead of the traditional style forging as well? I believe their forging were from 8620 instead of 1020/1025 carbon steel like titleist or mizuno.

Correct. They use 8620 and cast it then press it maybe twice. It is a cast head

So...apart from the usual Japan market premium these are basically a con?

If you consider Ping Anser irons a con.  If you consider Cleveland Form Forged from the early 2000s a con.  Then yes.  There are plenty of examples of 8620 "forged" clubs out there.

Vokey/Titleist has stated publicly for years that it is not cost effective to build the forging dies needed to create true forgings in all the lofts and grinds.  And unless you want to start paying Japanese pricing and commanding 250+ for each Vokey, just live with what you are getting.

If forging is needed, you can always go to the 1025 forged Clevelands and Callaways.

I have 2 of the first generation vokey forged.....BBBBUUUUTTTTTAAAAA on full swings same feel as cast on anything else. Usually the JDM forged specific vokeys also have a LE grind similar to the JDM TVD-r wedges.

Personally I couldn't tell the difference in feel or sound between a forged 8620 and cast 8620.  Maybe because of the cold forging being similar to a cast anyway.  Now a forged 1025 mild carbon steel produced that soft buttsery feel everyone associates with forging.  My understanding is club manufactures shy away from 1025 forged wedges because they will wear much faster.

Our PGA Section had Bob Vokey speak at a coaching summit when the SM5 was introduced and of course the first question asked was "why don't you make a forged wedge in the US market" and his answer was 2-fold, "casting allows us to get exact grind consistency and 8620 is 8620 regardless of how the head is poduced."

Scratch used a lot of 8620 and they were an exquisite head. Don't get mixed up with forged/cast. You won't know the difference.

Years ago before there were a zillions lofts and bounces Titleist produced forged wedges that were duplicates of various staff players forged wedges. David Duval, Steve Ellington, Davis Love III, Brad Faxon were the four I remember. You got a little leather bound pamphlet that described each model and the grind that pro liked..  These were real forgings not cold forgings. I think Hoffman forged in Tennessee did them before they went under after the last gasp 681T models in the U.S.
