I will be in the Pearland area for the first time in a long time for the birth of my soon to be new nephew on the morning of March 24th, flying into Houston on the March 21st Friday morning. My sister and brother in law live on a course called Southwyck(sp?)he told me, never played it, was wondering where is good to play and if anyone is up for a round during that timeframe?

Southwyck has seen better days, but is a fun course to play. I hear they have a new fleet of carts that are "the fastest carts I've seen" to quote a friend who was there recently. Southwyck holds a special place in my heart because its the course where I shot my one and only under-par round.
Not far from there is Clear Creek GC - wide open and not too difficult, but can play tough if the wind blows due to the lack of trees, just like Southwyck.
Within 30 mintues are a few pretty good options - Wildcat GC and Timbercreek GC. Wildcat is just south of Reliant Stadium (wildcatgolfclub.com) and has two courses that are always well kept. Some of the best views of the city you'll find on a good day. Play the Lakes Course - the Highlands is goofy golf. Timber Creek GC is one of the best public courses in the area and is in Firendswood (east of Pearland). 27 holes of pure golf. Be sure to play the Timber Trails if you only play 18 - that 9 holes is a bear from the back tees. timbercreekgolfclub.com

Our group plays weekly at Southwyck, Wildcat, or Timber Creek. My personal favorite is Timber Creek, because it's very wooded, unlike most courses in south Texas.
Wildcat is the best-maintained of these courses, but they charge quite a bit more than Southwyck or Timber Creek. Because it was built on an old landfill, you get a lot of elevation changes which is something unique in this part of the country. A very challenging course, with good greens. If you don't care about the price, it's worth playing, but I think they're too expensive for weekday golf ($78 on Friday's)
Southwyck is fun little tract, but it can get overwhelmingly busy due to their "all inclusive" coupons which include green fees, cart, lunch, and free replays for anywhere from $19-24 depending on the day. People were driving in from all over town to take advantage of this deal, and the crowds just ruined the experience (6 hour rounds anyone?)
Fortunately, they've raised their prices $24-34 with coupon, and the lunch is no longer free on Fridays (it's pretty bad anyway) so the crowds haven't been as bad.
Are you playing by yourself, or with someone else? If you are a single, you are welcome to join our group that week, as we usually only have 3.
