I threw a 3 wood about 115 with the roll out at sea level after blowing my second shot on a par 5 into a condo development one time.

Trap draw.

Not sayin I don't believe you, but back in the day I was considered a really good club chucker, and I could only manage 100 with a 3w.

Let me guess, you chucked lit like a helicopter? That's just poor form. You really need to take a running start and launch that bad boy like your going for the gold in the Javelin. That'll get you some carry.

Thanks for the tip. Please explain the proper spine angle and the planting of the left foot during release..

I remember this one time I had the stiffest shaft known to mankind. I whittled it from an old piece of rebar. It played at 42 37/64ths. I of course hard stepped it because I wanted to lower the flight 8" and my smash factor would've been too high/or low, whatever. The grip had 7 3/8 wraps under right hand and 12 1/4 wraps under left. I stretched the grip 1/4" down the shaft because thats where my fitter told me. I put it in a Titleist PT 15 that I had custom bent to 13.625*. I went to the gym and did some situps and some push ups and jumped over a couple boxes and I think I lifted a tire up and let it fall over, memory is a little foggy. Got to the first tee box, cranked up my itunes with my favorite Munford and Sons, turned my hat around backwards and let my towel hang from my back pocket. Before I went to swing I realized my sunglasses were covering my logo so I threw them aside and went for it. I put my 123 mph swing speed on it, I know its 123 because the launch monitor at Dicks said so. I then proceeded to hit it a 1/16th low on the face and a tick on the heel side and the ball carried 34 yards over the ball washer, mind you I'm playing from beyond the tips. Threw it back into my 96 pound staff bag.

Ok longest 3 wood I have ever hit was TEE XCG 13 degree.  Hit it 275 off the tee at sea level here in Kentucky.  I know I'm a shorter hitter.  My average 3 wood is around 230.

I don't even bother with driver or 3w anymore. Unless the par 5 is like 600 yards straight away and with a head wind, I'm always over shooting greens. I usually play something like 5w-LW and I've got the LW bent to the legal limit. Still goes about one fiddy. Gosh is so hard being this long, what's a average mid capper supposed to do?

This happened to me many many years ago. But, I was playing at The Ranches in Eagle Mountain. It was the on the back 9 I believe it was the 13th downhill par 4. I shank the crap out of my 3 wood off a tee probably less then 10 yards. And it rolled down the cart path perfectly and end up behind the hole on the cart path still. So carry 10 yards, total driving distance was roughly 350 give or take a few rolls.
I was with this idiot when this happened. He ended up with a double.

The other day I was playing our local course and we got to the par 5 on the front. It is around 530 from the back tees, hit my tee shot and it looked perfect. Got into the fairway and couldn't find the ball anywhere, went back retee'd, hit a 7 iron (still out drove everyone) played the ball out to the green, went to pull the pin and wouldn't ya know.....there was my ball!!!!! I called Happy and told him he aint got squat on me.

This is GolfWRX so my longest 3 wood shot was with an old MacGregor Tommy Armour 945W (1953 model) with an S-300 shaft installed at 41.5 inches with a Titleist Tour Balata 100 compression ball.  I apparently hit it on the screws (yes, those old persimmon woods have screws) and it produced the longest shot I have ever hit.  I drove a 535 yard par 5 and one putted for a double eagle!!!  I almost aced the hole!  Only on GolfWRX!

;) :tease:

JK!

My longest 3 wood is certainly not as long as many on this board, probably 310 yards in Colorado, 275-280 yards at sea level when I was much younger and stronger.  And yes, I did play that 3 wood and hit some tremendous shots back in the day, on the screws but driving a par 5 was never possible!

The longest 3-wood I ever hit was on the launch monitor at Golfsmith (RIP :( ).  It was a Callaway something or other.  The numbers were on par with a driver.  Then I looked at the price........and became very content with the 3 wood already in the bag. :golfer:

I launched a 3-wood today in my back yard that has yet to return to earth. Had it teeíd a little to high hitting into the net and pretty sure it went straight up after I swung. Never saw it and never heard it fall. I guess itís floating in outer space now.

Sure there was a tailwind and the ground is pretty firm, but it was a bit surprising to have a 30-yard wedge on a 375-yard par 4.  Too bad I left too much hair on the putt after the chip and had to settle for a par.

I had a couple other 3 woods go 295-300 today too.  Normally I've amazed myself with that kind of distance.

What's your longest 3 wood (no high altitude, downhill shots or cart path bounces allowed)?
To be honest in my heyday (20 years  ago ) when vsteels were the club and not the 20 plus yard jacked up 3 woods of today, 280 was my fw shot. It was a fantastic tour issue club vsteel with that tour issue nv 85x that was 15 degree but pounded like a 13 degree. This is wisconsin weather and grass--not that dried concrete wind-aided airport runway golf. Ok there I bragged a bit.
