Update: 5 weeks in, 5 rounds booked (mix of 4somes and 2somes), $55 in fees saved, and I've received 2 $10 rewards so the bonus points are paying off.

Also, I just got an email saying I will be receiving a free dozen Taylormade Project (a) balls. This VIP deal is working out great for me so far.

Did you receive the Project (a) balls due to your VIP status?
Yes, here's a screenshot of the email I got. I haven't received them yet.

Thanks.  I signed up.  I don't know if it will be worth my while though.  The free balls are worth something so hopefully I get that email.

I nearly pulled the trigger on the VIP, but didn't.  And I'm glad I didn't with the new rewards change of having to use the $10 rewards at least 3 days out and paying full price on the "hot deal" as a result.   What good is accumulating rewards faster with VIP (no way I'd save $99 in booking fees alone) if the rewards become nearly worthless?

I received a packet from GolfNow with a humongous bag tag. It's so ugly and cheap-ly made. I wish they would've spent money on something useful.

Hah I got the same thing a week or so ago and had the same exact first thought. This piece of junk is never going on my bag.

I got another dozen project a's and had no idea what the "medallion" was until above post. So it's a bag tag I see. No use for it that's for sure.

lol screw you guys, i love my bag tag! i've also received 2 boxes of the project a's.

and i do agree they did kind of screw us with the $10 off 3-day rule now. but you know what, i still try to save money by booking early and then when it gets closer to the date and if there's still available spots, i'll cancel and re-book for the cheaper price.

I know that golfnow has made the VIP less attractive with the 3-day advance for promo codes, but I crossed my VIP break-even point this week, not including the free balls or rewards points (signed up first week of March). The next 8 months are bonus for me, yaaay! I've also been combining the VIP with their cyber monday $50 off $100 deal (yes, I bought a bunch of that deal), so this is how my last couple reservations have looked... hard to beat $15 per person ($50+$8 /4) for a Saturday 10am tee time.

Check your email (including junk mail). If I remember correctly, you had to respond to their email by entering your mailing address, and they sent the balls a month or so later.

good thing about VIP is that I, now, make multiple reservation because I can cancel anytime without paying the fee

I was about to sign up for the VIP membership that includes a dozen of taylormade tp5 balls but I read the fine print and didn't like the idea of golfnow charging my account for payment for every year til I give them 30 days in advance before my membership expires.

I guess if a golfer use this service often then, it'll pencil out being worth the VIP fee.

Personally I do not like being tied down with one service and feel obligated to use the service because I paid in advance.  Except for Costco membership which we'd made the membership fee back in one month.  But all that will change when kids are leaving home and two senior would not have the ability to consume the same amount.

I don't particularly like the phrase of "sole discretion " being used in the contract on behalf of the benefit to GolfNow.  Anytime I see that phrase I remembered some bad experience in the past, not that the phrase is an airtight escape but difficult to fight if you sign on the dotted line without being under duress.

Somebody woke up and smart on the concept of charging membership fee which was partially made Costco a success.  But most golfers just don't golf enough to say this is a great deal at $99 /12 months.   I won't see any benefit on this since a lot of the local golf courses told me that they have similar program which will come out even or better than what GolfNow has to offer.

I do use the GolfNOw hot deal, the kind of the last minutes great deal.  Usually within a couple of hours of the tee time.  Again those deals do not come by every week so..... the VIP deal does not pencil out for us.

GolfNow ruined the VIP program by placing the 3 day advance requirement on the earned vouchers. So basically you forfeit the advantage of those "last minute" times that are always priced so juicy to use up your accumulated rewards. I understand why they did it in theory but in practice it makes the VIP worth 1/4 of its original value before this stipulation.
I dropped it last week when my year was up...enjoyed it while it lasted but like all good things it got jacked up in the end.

I agree with this. I understand it for their purchased promos from deal caddy, but it sucks that I can't decide during the day that I want to play that afternoon and grab a $15 hot deal with a $10 reward discount like I used to.

Has anyone used the 20% trade-in bonus toward Golfnow credit? I never use trade-ins because I don't like feeling that I need to find stuff to spend the credit on. So I like the idea of getting golfnow credit which is like cash to me.

Has anyone used the Golfnow trade-in? How were the values? Were there any stipulations on the credit like their promos (like 3 days in advance, expiration, Mon-Thurs, etc)?

I don't see anything weird in the description:
http://promotions.go...trade-and-play/

If it's a real credit I could probably clean the garage a little and not pay to play for the rest of the year.

Whoa Really?
That would really be a deal breaker for me if confirmed but last I checked it was still $100. They apparently lost enough VIP customers to make them rethink the strict reward usage policy also. I see now VIP members have more flexibility using them and can play prior to noon again and Fri - Sun are back on the table. They still left the 3 day advance rule in effect though so VIP is still not as sweet as it once was.

Regarding the trade in swap for Golfnow bucks I have not used it because I trade with Callaway Preowned and upgrade my sticks through them on occasion. They are terrific and its a seamless process including a discounted return freight sticker for your trade. I see your point as far as GN trade being like cash for you if you book a bunch through them though...

Hit them straight

After my last post I researched the fee hike and found this little nugget:
I enrolled prior to January 17, 2018, what do I need to do to keep my $99 membership fee?

As long as you renew your membership before it expires, you will maintain the $99 membership fee for another year. To ensure renewal, make sure you have chosen Auto Renewal and have stored a credit card. click here to update your account information to ensure that your VIP membership continues without interruption. Don’t worry, we will remind you to renew when your membership expiration date is approaching.

I still think they have lost it going up to $200 ... Sure they give you 10 "Free" hot deals but they should just call it the prepay program

And the 10 freebies are Mon-Thurs only I think.

I renewed at $99 for another year, but I definitely won't break even as easily as I did last year. My group hasn't been playing as much, the deals aren't as good because of the 3 day rule, and my local courses are offering better promo rates to try to take customers back from GN. I'm sure I'll still break even and clear a few rewards, and hopefully the 20% trade bonus for GN credit will push me past the break-even point.
