Anyone? I'll cop to covering mine in my travel bag when I check it in at the airport. On the course? No disrespect to anyone that does (i.e. disrespect alert), but I wouldn't be caught dead with iron covers while playing, or at the range for that matter.

That said, anyone use them, or know someone that does. Just wondering.

I use them proudly my irons cost me money and I can't stand bag chatter on my investment nothing worse than buying used irons that are beat to pieces you wouldn't treat your high dollar Tour issue Drivers that way why would irons be any different, now if money were not an issue for me ie: I wipe with $100 bills it might be a different story.

I personally don't use them, but a regular golf buddy of mine does. I don't think any less of him for using them :)

Like they say, "Whatever floats your boat!"

I use them with forged heads like Wishons, Titleists and Mizunos, but not with my cast Callaways and Pings.

Same here, I have covers on my Adam's Pro Forged Irons buy not on my Ping G-2s. I love to play the forged irons, but tournament time, G2's are my gamers.

Please! Open note to all!!

Do your bag room attendant a favor and stop using these things!! Use them only for travel purposes!! They are a huge pain in the butt for the staff to take them all off, clean the clubs, and then put them back on before your bag goes to the storeage rack! They also help to keep water trapped in next to the heads which might cause the irons to rust! If there is a large number of sets to wash, say after a men's day, it slows down the whole process! I know the kids in the bag rooms really hate them with a passion!

Sure, they do serve a purpose, and they were fasionable at one time, but I have never seen a "real player" use these things in well over 15 years!

I have a set, but I only use them when my clubs go in the travel bag and on the airline. Otherwise, I'll live with the bag chatter!

I used to use them, but I couldn't accept people on golfwrx thinking I was a dork so I stopped. I don't miss them.

If you want to use them, feel free....but as an FYI they are looked upon similar to pocket protectors in the golf industry.

*personally I could care less what anyone does.....use or don't use them, I am not going to lose sleep over it...just relaying some info.

There is a real "Stigma" attached to the practice of using Iron Head Covers in the Golf Community. However, I would never slight anyone for using them. I have seen some people using them and it certainly didn't cause me to treat them any differently than anybody else. I however would NEVER use them. Too much "Fuss & Bother".

I personally use them on my mp-60's because they are so soft and i sell my clubs every so often. they match the bag and actually get a lot of good comments... besides its extra fun to be the nerd that kicks the..."too cool for school" tush! need to borrow my slide-rule for that nasty short sided bunker shot ya got there?

I use covers on my Mizzies and i like the for 2 reasons:

1. they keep my Mizzies in good shape-no dings, just normal wear
2. my pace at the course is very fast (walking, using a push cart), usually faster than others. in a foursome, i have every time in the world
to wipe them down after each shot, put the covers on again, etc.... Otherwise, i`d be smoking even more during a round ;)

Ha, that part about cleaning clubs as dead on. I hussled bags for 5 years before moving inside and i its the worst and time comsuming when you got 50+ bags to clean by hand before you can go home.

I use them when I have my clubs in the car or traveling by air, but on the course they are a pain in the A. I do know a guy that uses them everywhere and his older set of forged Hogans are immaculate.

When I first began purchasing highend forgings I did simply based on anxiety but I quickly gave them up and never looked back. I'm definitely as anal as the next guy but at the end of the day one of my best friends explained it best; they are simply tools. Liberate yourself and give up the ghost!

When you start paying for my irons I will and not worry about it, but some of us like to keep our stuff looking good, as far as your "real player" comment goes my 2 index carries so bring some large cash and lets get it on! Also when is the last time you think Phil or Tiger or anyone else on tour paid there own money for there clubs? Oh and I will promise one thing, I won't slow you down, headcovers or not!

I don't use them and it does not bother me if anyone chooses to use iron covers if it does not slow down play. A friend of mine drives me crazy with his. Kudos to him for taking great care of his irons. However, it makes for a slow round of golf because he will not move on until the club is wiped down and the iron cover is replaced. Tried to get him to get back in the cart (he never walks) wipe down club, replace cover and put club in bag the next time we stop in order to speed things up, but he always takes his good sweet time. Really annoys me, especially when there is a group breathing down our neck. Come to think about it, I hope annoying me is not his way of trying to get one up on me.

i use them, and so do 3 of my regular playing partners [2 single digits, 3rd same level as me, 12-14 depending on time of year]. they've been playing for decades, i've been at it for 2+ years. i did not use until this year, the 'noise and ding' factor- what i view as practical reasons- caused me to purchase the lycra type of covers which come on and off easily.

I'd take his iron covers and throw them in the lake. Tell him to quit being a pansy and speed the eff up.

All joking aside a couple golfing buddies of mine use them but they don't slow up play so it doesn't bother me at all. I would never use them myself.

I've always used them and after 3 years with the same MR-23 satin blades in my bag I'm happy to say they still look close to brand new. No bag chatter at all. It's a joy to pull the club out and see how great it looks before hitting the ball. I'll always use them!

depends on the bag i use, but with the two without the club sorters, i'll definitely have the irons covers on. and it comes off just before the shot and on immediately after cleaning the head following the shot.

I use them. Also hit out of damp sawdust on my practice range-mainly because the grass doesn't grow back fast enough to hit several hundred balls a day but it also takes good care of the clubs. If you want to really speed up play drive your own cart and make fewer shots.

Exactly, i am anal about the condition of my clubs and can't stand having them chatter and ding in the bag.

Love it!....my thoughts are pretty close to the same.......how funny is it when the guy who is playing with headcovers took lots off $$ off of you that day. Say what you want boys, and thanks for the donations!

Got a friend who uses these on cast, game improvement irons. No offense to anyone who uses them, but I can't stand the things. I like to see my irons, and can't stand taking off a headcover for every shot. Also, why use them on cast irons? It's not like they're gonna get hurt in the bag. Oh well. Like others have said, "whatever floats your boat." LOL. At least, like others have said, it doesn't slow down pace of play. So it doesn't bother me while we play, just when I see his bag. LOL.

P.S. I use Titleist 804.os forged irons, and AM worried about them getting damaged in the bag. Also, I can't stand the sound of bag chatter. Since I am a walker, all I do is use my right arm to pull the clubs to me, thereby not allowing them to bang against each other. I would have my arm behind the bag if not, so it doesn't bother me at all. Just have my arm a little further right. I guess it's just a personal preference thing, but I would much rather do this than use the covers.

Iron covers are weak; let's face it. This topic has been beaten to death over the years and it always ends the same way...

sure I got some when I first got my mizuno's....blue matched my grips thought I was awesome. But I took them off for this reason, even though the process of taking them off and putting them back on doesn't seem like it takes that long, I felt like it made me hold up play a little and I wont be that guy so I don't use them anymore. Less hassle and my clubs are fine

Why?

Are you looking for justification to start playing with them?

Or is this just "another" thread about how it's ok to cover your woods and hybrids, but not your irons.

If it is the latter... do a search as there are plenty of threads; and surely you have something better to do with your time.

A-men, What the hell difference does it make if you use covers or not, You did not buy them so don't worry about it! Most forged
blades are $1k plus...and look like crap within a few months without them. Some of you guys are too damn ego driven. If your playing with someone using them just focus on YOUR game and not their bag!

I use them, regardless of the stigma attached to them. I can't stand bag chatter. I've heard the stories of bags falling off carts, and what's wrong with a little insurance? I'm not a slow player, and the covers don't slow me down. I just clean the club and replace the cover when convenient between shots. The covers go in and come out of my pocket easily. Despite their cast, game-improvement nature, I still want my clubs to look as nice as possible.
For the haters, at least I'm not using one of those chippers!

I used to work as an assistant at a local course and I will never forget a kid on the one of the local high school teams who bought a brand new set of Titleist 690.MBs. These are some beautiful irons and the price tag on them was not cheap. That being said I saw him in the shop about six months after having the irons and they looked like he had been out hittng rocks for two straight weeks with them! A set that probably cost him $900-$1000 six months prior would not get him $300 on trade or selling outright. Carbon steel forged clubs are an investment due the amount of money they cost. Why not keep them nice with some covers so you can get your money back out of them? Who really cares what anyone else thinks about using them. I mean really, how much does it slow up play to pull the cover off put it in your pocket and hit your shot and then put it back on? Maybe a total of 10 seconds to pull it off and then put it back on? I would much rather wait for someone to put the covers back on then wait on someone taking 15 practice strokes or someone waiting for the green to clear on a par five when they are over 250yds out and they hit their drive about 220!!! This is what slows up play, not iron head covers!! I am sure all of you out there that have a Scotty putter use the headcover, and it is only 1/3 the cost of your irons. Bag chatter on chrome forged irons SUCKS!!!!!!

Forged chrome irons-YES

Cast or SS forged irons-NO

if pace of play is an issue taking iron covers off and on i suspect there are other habits going on slowing pace much further- for me it's a seamless process.

Iron covers don't slow down the pace of play, but I guess the question of should your irons have covers on them is similar to what is the pace of play for golf, some think its a peaceful game and could care less how long a round of golf takes while others think its a race to see who can get 18 done the fastest.

When you start paying for my irons I will and not worry about it, but some of us like to keep our stuff looking good, as far as your "real player" comment goes my 2 index carries so bring some large cash and lets get it on! Also when is the last time you think Phil or Tiger or anyone else paid there own money for there clubs?

A-men, What the hell difference does it make if you use covers or not, You did not buy them so don't worry about it! Most forged
blades are $1k plus...and look like crap within a few months without them. Some of you guys are too damn ego driven. If your playing with someone using them just focus on YOUR game and not their bag!

Well, if I'm ever playing you I don't want you to throw down a 6 iron cover on a par three when you are actually hitting a 3 iron!

I know people who did this when they used iron covers. Also, the rules of golf allow me to look at your bag to get info, but not touch it! I will have to view your iron covers. I personally don't care if you use them or not! Lighten up! :black eye:

Also, realize that you do hit the ground with your irons to play golf and in reality all they happen to be are tools! Tools get worn and beat up! They are not gold! If you are saving them to trade them in, don't wait more than one year!

i used to use them for like a 2 week period when i was younger and had bought new irons but i found them just too annoying to keep taking off and putting back on...i dont mind people who use them (though i rarely see people with them) as long as they dont hold up play...i have played with people who use them and have slowed play considerably due to handling them bc people usually wipe down their clubs completely after each shot before putting the cover on...whereas if im going to clean my club its as im walking to my next shot...i play with forged irons and i find that bag chatter is never as bad as people think, especially with the way bags are designed now and seperate clubs so well...i dont wanna know what would happen if a cover fell off the hole before...it would really pi$$ me off if someone had to go looking for a lost iron cover...sorry to rant but i really really hate slow play and just feel that its the only thing that takes away from an enjoyable round of golf

i don't see the point in it, when over time irons are meant to get dinged up...

i mean serisouly are you expecting them to sta mint forever...?

if you play more than twice a week, they are going to show signs of wear within a year...

Why?

Are you looking for justification to start playing with them?

Or is this just "another" thread about how it's ok to cover your woods and hybrids, but not your irons.

If it is the latter... do a search as there are plenty of threads; and surely you have something better to do with your time.

Why? As my post states, "just wondering." I can think of far better uses of one's time than trying to "read between the lines", assuming the worst, and posting inflammatory replies.
