I used to do a lot of fly fishing, and polarized lenses were the Holy Grail...probably still are. But I found out a very annoying side effect with my last pair of polarized sunglasses when playing golf - if you use a smart phone for a golf app, or just to check your email, polarized lenses make it harder to read the screen. I had to take them off every time I checked my yardage or posted my score. And with one of my vehicles that I drive, the polarized lenses completely obliterate the backlit display for my radio. Very annoying, so I won't be buy any more polarized sunglasses.

under  armour glasses with gameday lenses look great when off the course but enhance the color of the ball while playing. got a pair at PGATSS for around $100, not bad at all

I'm looking for recommendations for inexpensive sunglasses for golf. I've had the Oakley half jackets for a while but one of the lens broke and I'm thinking of trying a new pair. Thanks.
You can always get replacement G30 or Prism lenses for your old frame, if it's still in good shape.

What color lens of the Smith ChromaPop work best on the course?

I don't like my browns as much but they are ok.  The bronze ones I wear Every time I golf, they've become the official golf shades.  I have a black/grey lens, pretty good I think it works better on the water though.  The copper work well, but it's whether you can get the mirrored ones or not, a preference thing.

The techlite glass lenses are real nice but kind of heavy IMO.   Chromeapop is the jam.

Adding to what wareagle said. The Smith Ignitor lens tint is one of the best for golf.  Let's in a lot of light at 32%vlt but very similar to the Oakley Prizm lens.  Lots of contrast.  Smith also offers this lens in the Ignitor Photochromic which is variable vlt at 14-60% vlt which is really nice as it works great in cloudy days to provide contrast but allow lots of light in and then if it's sunny it adjusts to the 14% visible light transmission or some where in between.

I like the bronze tint as well for golf but at 13% vlt it works best on sunny days and provides great contrast via the chromapop technology.

Never wore sunglasses until 2 weeks ago, picked up some Oakley Radar Path with the Field Prizm lens.  Love it, it really does enhance the contrast between the different colors on the course.

Hey, my first post here!

Many years ago when I was starting out playing golf I was practicing on a muddy range and took a terrible glob of mud into my eye. Had to dig it out from way back in my eye when I got home - not good. At the time I was an active pilot and had worn Ray Ban Aviators for many years. I can't play golf in those, maybe others can. But, at that time I invested in my first pair of Oakleys. They were the standard black/gray M-frames and, frankly, for me they are fantastic for golf. I'm on my third pair now (fishing accidents, wear and tear, etc...) I also have a pair of the Oakley Radar shades and they are also excellent for golf.

One other thing to think about in terms of golf and sunglasses. As I mentioned above I started wearing them mainly for eye protection. But, I certainly enjoyed the sun protection - having baby blues intended for living closer to the arctic circle. Found out recently that I have cataracts. As a kid I didn't have sunglasses and am paying for it now, apparently. So, there's something to having good sun protection for your eyes out on the course.

Smith optics....Every thread I see on this topic I turn one person over to the light side...Priced similar to Oakley, less than Costa, every bit as good - If not better.  plastic or glass lenses, take your pick.  I like plastic for golfing, lighter weight.   You will not regret it, you will actually be mad at yourself for not already knowing.
Is there a particular style that would be good for golf?

I love the parallel

their customer service is great - free noes piece replacements and additional lenses are about $25.00 (non polarized)

Going to finally buy a quality pair of sunglasses and ditch the $10 gas station glasses.

Probably going with Oakley Mainlink.   Question is if i only want to buy one pair, and these will be both my golf glasses and my everyday glasses to drive, sit by pool, walk the dog...etc.   which lens should i get?

Should i go prizm and use them as an everyday also or get the daily lens and use them for golf?
I got prism lenses with my half jackets and bought a pair of gray reflective for everyday driving and walking about

I like the Spy glasses with their "Happy Lens" lenses. I also have a pair of the Oakley Prizms. Both are solid! Spy is a bit less expensive.

I have 4 pair of sunglasses:

Persol -  Super expensive, not for active sports, but look great.  Hoenstly though, they are grossly overpriced and overrated
Ray Bans - Have prescription lenses in them
Smith Optics - I got these for free when I bought my Subaru lol.  I was thinking whatever they will be ok and they are free.  I got the Chromopop lenses... Ummm these things are amazing.  Hands down the best lenses in sunglasses I have ever had.  I highly recommend them

for golf I used to wear Sundogs.  they were good for how cheap they were.  They got the job done.  But their quality was also what you paid for. They fell apart, the lenses scratch super easy and I found myself replacing them every 12-18 months.  Not bad because they were cheap but my Ray Bans are 7 years old and my Persols are 4 years old and everything about them looks new.

This year I replaced my golf sunglasses with Nike Show X2s with the Max Optic lenses... These things are surprising great and weren't overly expensive.  I think I found them on Amazon for just over $100.  They came with 2 different lenses.  They are more comfortable than the Sundogs and the lenses are great.  They almost rival the Smith Optic lenses.  I think the lenses are better than the Persols and the Ray Bans.  I would highly recommend them.

Comment regarding Oakley... my eye doc also said Oakley shouldn't be the end all be all for active sunglasses.  He suggested there are significantly better quality products and lenses and that he would consider Oakley to be lower end even though their price says otherwise.  He recommends Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Nike, and a couple of others that I can't remember off the top of my head.  It had to do with a higher standard of lens rating or something... the conversation was so long ago I honestly can't remember.

I have to wear prescription sunglasses/glasses when I golf so I do prefer to wear sunglasses.

I have a pair of the Oakley Flak Jackets as well. I have the really chromatic yellow/orange lenses.

I know they are for function over looks, but does anyone else find the golf PRIZM lenses pretty ugly? I found they looked like safety glass lenses.

Does anyone else use any of the other prizm activity lenses for golf that work well in cloudy skies?

I wear sunglasses almost ALWAYS when I'm outside and have gone through so many pairs of Maui Jims, Raybans, Costa's, cheaper glasses, etc.  I finally put a strap on my Ray-Bans so I won't lose them but the downside is now I dislike playing golf in them.  So I finally broke down and picked up a pair of Oakley's with the Prizm Golf lens.  It's bright!  Haven't been on course yet but plan is to just keep them in golf bag and see how they do.

I find that the 3D glasses from the movie theater add great dimension to reading greens...........

For more serious rounds, I go with Oakley Flak Jacket with polarized lenses (just personal preference over the golf lens that was recommended for me at the store (NOT Prizm)).

For knockaround rounds with my d!<{#&@d buddies, I prefer my pair of $5 polarized wayfarers I got on Amazon. After seeing Justin Rose playing in that style, I decided to try it out and have found it to be really comfortable. Surely not for everyone, but doesn't affect me one bit.
